Telugu maatram: A Morpheme that Agrees with an only-Operator
Isaac Gould 한국생성문법학회 2018 생성문법연구 Vol.28 No.3
Gould, Isaac. 2018. Telugu maatram: A Morpheme that Agrees with an only-Operator. Studies in Generative Grammar, 28-3, 365-388. This paper provides an initial description of Telugu (Dravidian) maatram, a morpheme that indicates the semantics of an exhaustivity operator (akin to English only), which I call an only-Operator. The distribution of maatram has an interesting property: a VP-internal maatram appears to require the associate of this operator to be the entire VP. Accounting for this poses a challenge to a straightforward mapping between the form maatram and the meaning of the operator. In response to this challenge, I propose dissociating the semantic force of exhaustification from the morpheme maatram. Thus I propose that there are phonologically null semantic only-Operators, and that maatram is an overt morpho-syntactic marker that instead plays a role in indicating the associate of these operators. Crucially, an operator and maatram are involved in a relation of syntactic agreement, and the locality of this relation allows us to account for the distribution of maatram and the associate of the operator.
Foreign aid—Economic Growth Nexus in Africa: Does Financial Development Matter?
Appiah-Otoo Isaac,Acheampong Alex O.,Song Na,Obeng Camara Kwasi,Appiah Isaac K. 한국국제경제학회 2022 International Economic Journal Vol.36 No.3
This study explored the role of financial development in foreign aid (measured by agriculture, humanitarian, health, economic infrastructure and services, and education aid) and economic growth relationship for 37 African countries spanning the 2002–2018 period. Using the instrumental variable generalized method of moments model, our findings indicated that while foreign aid impedes Africa’s growth, financial development spurs economic growth. The conditional effect analysis showed that financial development conditions foreign aid to spur economic growth. The country-specific analysis further showed that foreign aid has a higher growth elasticity in countries with relatively better financial systems, such as Mauritius, South Africa, Gabon, Tunisia, and Botswana, whilst the growth elasticity of aid is smaller in countries with a relatively weak financial system such as Malawi, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The study recommended the need for policymakers in Africa to implement innovative ways to improve domestic revenue mobilization. The study also recommended that policymakers in Africa should create an enabling environment that will enhance the development of Africa’s financial system to mitigate the adverse effect of aid on economic growth.
Insecticides with novel modes of action: Mechanism, selectivity and cross-resistance
Isaac ISHAAYA,Avner BARAZANI,Svetlana KONTSEDALOV,A. Rami HOROWITZ 한국곤충학회 2007 Entomological Research Vol.37 No.3
Efforts have been made during the past two decades to develop insecticides with selective properties that act specifically on biochemical sites present in particular insect groups, but whose properties differ from other insecticides. This approach has led to the discovery of compounds that affect the hormonal regulation of molting and developmental processes in insects; for example, ecdysone agonists, juvenile hormone mimics and chitin synthesis inhibitors. In addition, compounds that selectively interact with the insect nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, such as imidacloprid, acetamiprid and thiamethoxam, have been introduced for the control of aphids, whiteflies and other insect species. Natural products acting selectively on insect pests, such as avermectins, spinosad and azadirachtin, have been introduced for controlling selected groups of insect pests. Compounds acting on the nervous site that controls the sucking pump of aphids and whiteflies, such as pymetrozine, or respiration, such as diafenthiuron, have been introduced for controlling sucking pests. All the above compounds are important components in pest and resistance management programs.

Moving Toward Renewable Energies: Mexico´s Energetic Transition
Isaac Azuz-Adeath,Alejandra Cortés-Ruíz 한국외국어대학교 국제지역연구센터 2017 국제지역연구 Vol.21 No.2
Mexico has been historically among the main producers of oil and more recently of natural gas with a production in 2016 of 2.1 millions of barrels per day, and a volume of 54,000 million of cubic meters respectively, located in the twelfth and sixteenth place in the world ranking. The production tendencies between years 2004 and 2014, show a decrease of 28% concerning oil and inversely an increase of 43% in natural gas production. During the past three decades the energy policies have focused primarily in the exploitation of hydrocarbons thanks to the “oil boom” in Mexico, with the hydrocarbon´s extraction, production, commercialization and distribution, and electrical energy generation and distribution, controlled by the state-owned Mexican Petroleum company (PEMEX) and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) respectively. On 2015, electric energy generation was distributed, according to the International Energy Agency (2017), as follows: natural gas (59.8%), coal (11%), oil (10.2), hydro (22.5%), nuclear (3.8%), geothermal (2%), wind (2.6%), biofuels and waste (0.5% and solar (0.1%). The global context and the necessity to broaden the commercial horizons concerning energetic policies, contributed to the creation and decree of several laws that promote the diversification of the energy generation sources in Mexico, of which must be mentioned: Law for the Use of Renewable Energy and the Financing of the Energetic Transition (2008), Law for the Sustainable Use of Energy (2008), Law on the Promotion and Development of Bioenergy (2008), General Law on Climate Change (2012), Geothermal Law (2014), Hydrocarbons Law (2014) and the Energy Transition Law (2015), among other. The purpose of this paper is to describe the current state of electrical energy generation in Mexico and the potential of development of renewable energy, taking into account the recent legal changes and implementation measures. The conclusions extracted of this analysis show the high potential for use renewable energy in the mexican territory.
Marketing in the metaverse: Moving forward – What’s next?
Isaac Cheah,Anwar Sadat Shimul 한국마케팅과학회 2023 마케팅과학연구 Vol.33 No.1
The widespread adoption of the metaverse has generated significant discussions within the marketing community about the challenges and opportunities it presents for consumer interaction with brands. This paper investigates how the metaverse may affect marketing and suggests a novel paradigm to deal with these problems. Furthermore, this article highlights new research directions. The article also offers a checklist for researchers to use when researching the potential advantages or disadvantages of the metaverse for digital marketing and advertising, branding, services, supply chain and logistics, ethics and sustainability, diversity and inclusion and consumer wellness. The proposed research agenda intends to offer insightful information to academics, practitioners, and decision-makers.
