Open-source Software for Developing Appropriate Smart Manufacturing Technology for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)

        Hyungjung Kim(Hyungjung Kim) 적정기술학회 2022 적정기술학회지(Journal of Appropriate Technology) Vol.8 No.3

Manufacturing innovation promoted by the Fourth Industrial Revolution presents various technologies and policies for implementing future smart factories based on advances in information and communication technology (ICT). However, despite recent advances in smart manufacturing technologies, several difficulties in migrating conventional manufacturing to smart factories remain, particularly in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Among the recently emerging technologies, ICT-related technologies have been developed and utilized as open-source software (OSS) to accelerate their development through collective intelligence and community growth. In this study, to facilitate the identification of appropriate smart manufacturing solutions for personnel in SMEs with insufficient prior experience and knowledge using OSS, several reference architectures (RAs) are investigated to define a small RA that can be referenced to configure the mandatory functions during development as technical requirements. Subsequently, user-oriented requirements are summarized to determine the enabling OSS by considering the conditions of SMEs for the functional components in developing appropriate smart manufacturing technologies to form Internet of Things edge computing, and a recommendation for enabling OSS that guides the development of SMEs is proposed. In the evaluation, a small edge and gateway demonstration is performed using two single-board computers equipped with Raspberry Pi, where some of the recommended enabling OSS of Message Queuing Telemetry Transport via Wi-Fi, MySQL, Node-RED, and Python are used. Finally, the feasibility of the proposed approach is confirmed by evaluating the demonstration.

Post-Silicon Tuning Based on Flexible Flip-Flop Timing

Hyungjung Seo,Jeongwoo Heo,Taewhan Kim 대한전자공학회 2016 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.16 No.1

Clock skew scheduling is one of the essential steps to be carefully performed during the design process. This work addresses the clock skew optimization problem integrated with the consideration of the inter-dependent relation between the setup and hold times, and clock to-Q delay of ip-ops, so that the time margin is more accurately and reliably set aside over that of the previous methods, which have never taken the integrated problem into account. Precisely, based on an accurate exible model of setup time, hold time, and clock-to-Q delay, we propose a stepwise clock skew scheduling technique in which at each iteration, the worst slack of setup and hold times is systematically and incrementally relaxed to maximally extend the time margin. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown through experiments with benchmark circuits, demonstrating that our method relaxes the worst slack of circuits, so that the clock period (Tclk) is shortened by 4.2% on average, namely the clock speed is improved from 369 MHz~2.23 GHz to 385 MHz~2.33 GHz with no time violation. In addition, it reduces the total numbers of setup and hold time violations by 27.7%, 9.5%, and 6.7% when the clock periods are set to 95%, 90%, and 85% of the value of Tclk, respectively.

RF Band-Pass Sampling Frontend for Multiband Access CR/SDR Receiver

        HyungJung Kim,Jin-up Kim,JaeHyung Kim,이인성 한국전자통신연구원 2010 ETRI Journal Vol.32 No.2

Radio frequency (RF) subsampling can be used by radio receivers to directly down-convert and digitize RF signals. A goal of a cognitive radio/software defined ratio (CR/SDR) receiver design is to place the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) as near the antenna as possible. Based on this, a band-pass sampling (BPS) frontend for CR/SDR is proposed and verified. We present a receiver architecture based second-order BPS and signal processing techniques for a digital RF frontend. This paper is focused on the benefits of the second-order BPS architecture in spectrum sensing over a wide frequency band range and in multiband receiving without modification of the RF hardware. Methods to manipulate the spectra are described, and reconstruction filter designs are provided. On the basis of this concept, second-order BPS frontends for CR/SDR systems are designed and verified using a hardware platform.

Vol.16 No.6

The study is to investigate the transfer effect of meta-cognitive strategies in ill-structured problem solving among undergraduates. There are three research questions. First, are the question prompts as meta-cognitive strategies transferred? Second, does the transferred question prompts as metacognitive strategies influence on the performance of ill-structured problem solving? Third, whether the use of metacognitive strategies influence on the increase of metacognitive awareness? Thirty two undergraduate students participated in the team based, ill-structured problem solving tasks for three times; entry, learning and transfer tasks. As a result, students acquired question prompts as a meta-cognitive strategy and transferred to the third task which performed after the treatment. Students took into consideration of essential questions in problem solving process because the transfer of meta-cognitive strategies influenced on the performance of ill-structured problem solving positively. In addition, the awareness of metacognition has been improved after performing three tasks and using question prompts in the second task as a metacognitive strategy. As an instructional design consideration, teacher’s appropriate interruption is suggested in the process of problem solving considering novice learner’s week steps.

      • DESTINATION BRAND EQUITY OF SWITZERLAND TOURISM AS PERCEIVED BY CANTONESE TOURISTS IN CHINA

        Markus Schuckert,Seongseop Kim,Hyungjung Im 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2014 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2014 No.3

The branding concept has been burgeoning from product branding and extending to service, corporate, and further nation branding (Papadopoulous & Heslop, 2002). The concept found in the tourism literature has been mostly adapted to a tourism destination (e.g., Gartner & Konecnik Ruzzier, 2011; Im, Kim, Elliot & Han, 2012). However, unlike characteristics of a manufactured product, a tourism destination has difficulties in terms of definition, measurement, and conceptualization (Murphy, Moscardo & Benckendorff, 2007). As a consequence, there has been a shortage of empirical research relating to the application of the branding concept to tourism destination management organizations spanning from national to local tourism organizations (Blain, Levy & Ritchie, 2005; Pike, 2010). To understand tourism destination branding, recently, studies have been conducted in the context of destination branding as a part of destination marketing strategy (Morgan, Prichard & Pride, 2001), brand identity and personality (Morgan et al., 2001; Murphy, Moscardo & Benckendorff, 2007), and brand logos and slogans (Blain et al., 2005; Hem & Iversen, 2004). The concept of the destination brand equity will be applied to Hong Kong tourists who are traveling to Switzerland. Switzerland is becoming a hot spot for Chinese long-haul trips following European destinations like UK, France, or Italy. Since a decade the core countries of the European Alps Switzerland concentrates more specifically on the Chinese market and with a time lag of a few years the overnight stays have started growing (Schmid, 2012). Since 2008 the overnight stays of Chinese touristsindicated a double- digit jump over the last five years and resulted in an accumulated growth rate of 246.9 percent, that is, the overnight stays per year climbed from 214,000 (2008) to 744,000 (2012) (BFS, 2009 & 2013). The Swiss Tourism Board estimated 2 million overnight stays from China in 2020. In this case China would overturn the neighboring country Italy as one of the key source markets for Switzerland (Schmid, 2012). The high increase in Chinese tourists led to marketing efforts of Switzerland Tourism and the Swiss Hotel Association hotelleriesuisse with their initiative “Hallo China” (Switzerland Tourism, 2004). At first, the main purpose of this study is to conceptualize destination brand equity. Second, it is to propose a destination brand equity model. Third, it is to test the model using a sample of Hong Kong tourists who travel to Switzerland. Fourth, it is to investigate characteristics of tourism products preferred by Hong Kong tourists. Fifth, it is to explore how their preferences for tourism products are different according to their travel-related or demographic variables. This study expects those outcomes and benefits. Frist, components consisting of destination brand equity model and conceptual model will be generated. Second, brand equity of Switzerland as perceived by Hong Kong tourists will be tested. Third, better understanding of Hong Kong tourists regarding their perception of Swiss image, level of awareness, overall quality, loyalty, and overall brand equity will be facilitated. Fourth, most previous studies focused only on preference, behavior or attitudes of Hong Kong tourists who travel in a short-haul distance. On the contrary, this study attempts to understand Hong Kong tourists to a long-haul tourism destination, here Europe. Fifth, according to specialization theory, more specialized tourists tend to select more far-way and more risky destination because their knowledge is growing and a range of their selection is diverse. In an increasing future trend in demand of overseas Chinese tourists, this study attempts to identify long-haul Hong Kong tourists’ preference, attitude or behavior in Europe.
