        Single and 4 weeks oral administration of New Woohwangchungsimwon (NWCH) which was used l-muscone as substitutive material of musk, to beagle dogs of both sexes were performed to investigate both acute and subacute toxicity. Beagle dogs(3 males and 3 females) in acute experiments were administered orally with single dose of 2,000 ㎎/㎏ and groups of 9 male and 9 female beagle dogs in subacute experiments were given daily different dosage of NWCH, 160 ㎎/㎏/day(low dosage group), 400 ㎎/㎏/day (middle dosage group), 1,000 ㎎/㎏/day (high dosage group) once a day for 4 weeks by oral route according to the Established Regulation of Korea Food and Drug Administration (1996. 4. 16). LD_50 value for beagle dogs was more than 2,000 ㎎/㎏ per oral for both male and females. In animals administered with NWCH, there were neither dead animals nor significant changes of body weights. In addition, no differences were found between control and treated groups in clinical sign, urinalysis, eye examination, hematology, serum chemistry, organ weight and other fingings. No histological lesions were observed in both control and treatment groups. Above data strongly suggset that NWCH in beagle dogs is considered to be safe.

        저빈도 전기자극이 개의 치아 및 치은에 대한 동통억제효과

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of electical anesthesia induced by non-acupuncture point stimulation on inhibition of amplitude of digastric EMG evoked by noxious electical stimuli in teeth and gingiva. Experiments were performed with dogs anesthetized with intraperitoneaal pentobarbital sodium in an initial dose of 30mg/kg.Maintenance doses of 4.0ml/hout were given through a cannula in the femoral vein using a constant infusion pump. Anterior belly of digastric muscle was exposed and a pair of 0.1mm wire electrodes were inserted for E.M.G. recording.Bipolar electrodes were inserted into the labial and lingual surface of upper canine and the labial area of upper gingiva.Noxious stimuli were delivered to the tooth and gingiva through those electrodes by electric stimulator. Non-acupuncture point stimulation of 2Hz was delivered bilaterally to the femoral area.Amplitudes of digastric E.M.G. were measured from the oscilloscope and monitor connected to amplifier at different intensities fo electronic anesthesia of 1 volt,4 volt and 10 volt.The inhibited rate of the amplitudes of digastric E.M.G. were analysed statistically with paired t-test. The following results were obtained: 1.Non-acupuncture point stimulation with intensities of 1 volt,4 volt and 10 volt showed the inhibitory effect on pain of 15%,25%,and 16% in teeth and 15%,18% and 12% in gingiva respectively. 2.In tooth,statistical significance was observed between control and each group.In gingiva,there was statistical significance between control and group 1,2 except group 3. From these results,low frequency electrical stimulation of non-acupuncture point resulted in reducing of dental and gingiva pain,it could be used as adjunct to other pain control methods.

      • 운동요법과 침술요법 병행에 의한 비만치료의 효과

        Until recently, 27.3 percent of Koreans are overweight and 3.3 percent are obese which is equal to about a third of the whole nation. Obesity is even becoming a social problem surpassing personal matter. Obesity can be induced to diabetes mellitus, hyperten, artherosclerosis, hyperlipoidemia, heart and C.V.A disease, etc Therefore this study is aimed at presenting evidence for an economical and efficent therapy with proving the effect of acupunture and exercisc in obesity. This three-month research project had done in Nonsan for July 1-Sept.30, 1997. The housewives who were studied had more than 25 percent of body fat, between twenty-five and fifty years old. Each group consisted of ten housewives. One group of subjects embarked on both acupunture and exercise. The other group was given just by acupunture. Aerobics, at 60 percent of HRmax level, were regularly and steadily performed for an hour every day, four or five times a week as an exercise therapy. Acupunture therapy was conducted two or three or three times per week. The conclusion measured and anslsysized the change of weight and body fat rate of each group follows: 1. The change of Weight 1) The group with exercise and acupunture together showed the change of weight from 54.5±4.1kg 2 weeks later to 50.8±3.4kg 12 weeks later. The reduced average weight was 3.7kg with a statistical significance of p〈0.01. 2) The other group with acupunture alone revealed the change of wieght from 55.6±3.9kg to 53.8±4.0kg 12 weeks later. The reduced average weight was 1.8kg with a significance of p〈0.01. 3) The group with exercise and acupunture together did not show the reduced average weight 0.8kg until 2 weeks after the start of experiment. While the other group with acupunture alone showed the reduced average weight 0.7kg 4 weeks later with al significance of p〈0.01. The group with exercise an acupunture together lost weight more quickly than the other group with acupunture alone. 2. The change of body fat rate 1) The group with exercise and acupunture together showed the change of body fat rate from 29.2 ± 3.4% to 4.7 ± 3.0% 12 weeks later. The reduced average amount was 4.5% with a significance of p〈0.01. 2) The other group with acupunture alone revealed the change of body fat rate from 29.2 ± 2.5% to 27.0 ± 2.5% 12 weeks later. The reduced average amount was 2.2% with a significance of p〈0.01. 3) The group with exercise and acupunture the reduced average body fat was 1.1% 2 weeks later with a significance of p〈0.01. Changed much faster than the other group with acupunture alone showed the reduced average amount 1.0% with a significance of p〈0.01. In Conclusion, exercise and acupunture together is more beneficial and helps reduce weight and body fat rate more than acupunture alone. The tact that acupunture helps the reduced weight 1.8kg, the reduced body fat rate 2.2% respectivly with a significance of p〈0.01, p〈0.01 proves the effect of acupunture in obesity cure. I,as based on above conclusion, should suggest that prevention is much more important than cure in obesity. It is required that regular and proper exercise at greater than fixed rate and accentuating not only the control of Weight but control of body fat rate to cure, or prevent obesity. We need various studies on cure method of obesity. A study is lively demanded by applying medicine under the eye lately to a physical education field.

      • 머리염색이 인체에 미치는 영향

        일상생활에서 모발염색은 흔히 접할 수 있는 미용의 한 종류로 특히 젊은층을 중심으로 폭발적으로 유행하고 있다. 염색을 위항 사용하는 약제는 표백제와 발색제 등 각종 화학약품이 사용되고 있으나 이로 인한 건강장해에 대한 연구는 그리 많지 않다. 저자들은 염색이 인체의 모발건강에 미치는 영향을 파악하기 위하여 염색과 관련된 주관적 증상과 모발의 변화에 대한 실험적 연구를 시행하였다. 동국대학교 경주 캠퍼스 재학생 80명을 대상으로 설문조사를 시행하여 염색 유 ·무 및 염색 후에 경험한 증상에 대해 설문 조사하였고, 의과대학 재학생 46명을 대상으로 피부 반응 테스트를 실시하였다. 또한 염색 전후의 모발 탄성도를 측정하였고 모발의 상태를 파악하기 위해 전자 현미경검사를 실시하였다. 설문조사 결과 염색 전에 비하여 염색 후 안구혼탁, 안구건조, 시력저하, 발진 및 접촉성 피부염, 모발손상, 모근손상 등의 증상을 더 많이 경험한다고 호소하였다(p<0.05). 모발손상과 모근손상은 헤어드라이어 사용 빈도에 따라 증가하는 것으로 조사되었다(p<0.05). 피부반응검사에서 가려움증이 가장 많은 증상이었으며 이는 여성보다는 남성에서 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 염색 전후의 모발장력은 염색 전 134.5±10.37g, 염색 128.0±30.69g, 염색 이틀 후 112.5±19.69g으로 나타났다. 염색 전후의 모발의 전자현미경 케라틴 층이 현저히 감소하고 모발이 가늘어지는 차이를 보였다. 염색은 모발손상, 모발 케라틴 손상 및 모근 손상, 발진 및 접촉성 피부반응, 안구혼탁, 안구건조, 시력 저하를 유발한다. 따라서 염색약으로 인한 손상에 대한 주의와 예방이 필요하다고 생각한다. 예방대책으로 염색 전 피부테스트를 통한 적합성 여부를 판단하는 것이 필요하며 가급적 염색을 피하는 것이 좋을 것이다. 염색약에 발암물질이 포함되어있다는 보고도 있어 염색 제조사의 철저한 실험과 염색 물질의 선별이 염색으로 인한 부작용을 최소화하는데 중요한 역할을 할 것이다. Hair coloring has became one of the most popular cosmetic activities to younger generations during last decade. However, there are few studies on the health effect of widespread use of chemical dyes. This study was conducted to study the effects of hair coloring dye on hair and other systems. We conducted a questionnaire survey of 80 persons in Kyongju campus, Dongguk University. We have done open patch skin test on 46 medical students. We also conducted scanning electron microscopy to examine the hair strength and structure before and after hair coloring process. Injury of hair and hair bulb, contact dermatitis, turbid eyes, xerophthalmia, and poor visual acuity were the main symptoms complained after hair coloring (p<0.05). Injury of hair and hair bulb were increased by frequency of hair-dryer use(p<0.05). In open patch test, pruritus was complanined by more than half of the subjects. Mean strength of hairs before and after hair coloring was as follows; 134.5 (SD 10.37)g before hair coloring, 128.0 (SD 30.69)g immediately after hair coloring, and 112.5 (SD 19.69)g after two days. The scanning electron microscopic findings of hair surface before and after hair coloring showed decreased keratin layer and thinning of the hair. Hair coloring induces injury to hair, its keratin layer, and hair bulb as well as contact dermatitis, turbid eyes, xerophthalmia, and poor visual acuity. Therefore, we think that precaution is needed in use of hair coloring dye. To prevent complications induced by hair coloring dye, it is necessary, especially to those with allergy or skin disorders, to perform skin test before action and avoid hair coloring whenever possible. Longterm health effects of hairdye should be studied and manufacturing companies should try to minimize complications induced by hair coloring dye.

LD_50 value for beagle dogs was more than 2,000 ㎎/㎏ on oral route for both male and females. In animals administered with l-muscone, there were neither dead animals nor significant changes of body weights. In addition, no differences were found between control and treated groups in clinical signs, urinalysis, eye examination, hematology, serum chemistry, organ weight and other findings. No histolopathological lesions were observed in both control and treatment groups. Above data strongly suggest that l-muscone in beagle dogs is considered to be safe.

        In this paper, a micro workpiece clamping device, which is possible to be applied in micro machine-tools, based on a shape memory alloy is introduced. Especially, the train procedure to transform a commercial one-way shape memory alloy into a two-way shape memory alloy is described. Also, it is experimentally verified that through the train procedure, the applied shape memory alloy ring exhibits two-way shape memory behavior of 220㎛ deformation. In addition, a conceptual design and a basic configuration of the work-piece clamping device using the two-way type shape memory alloy are suggested.

        This paper presents analysis and experimental results for effects of centrifugal force of the SMA-based tool clamping device. First, the corresponding theories of radial deformations resulting from the centrifugal force were described, and based on them, the radial deformations of the contact region between a tool and a tool holder were verified according to rotational speeds. Next, as for 3D-model of the tool holder, analysis of the radial deformations were carried out based on FEM. Finally, the feasibility of the SMA-based tool clamping device at high-rotational speed was experimentally verified by monitoring the clamped tool in mill-machining at 220,000rpm.

        유리협점막이식술의 임상적 연구

        Free grafting of oral mucosa for minor oral reconstruction was first described by Propper in ridge extension surgery. Situation calling for mucosal grafting procedures may relate to periodontal surgery, minor and major preprosthetic surgery, implant surgery, reconstruction in deformity cases after trauma, congenital cleft, gross atrophy and ablative tumor surgery. In the cases of 9 patients with mucosal defect of intraoral or orbital cavity after wide excision of tumor, preprosthetic surgery, and orbitoplasty, full-thickness mucosal graft were used to close a large defect. Four patients received buccal mucosal graft for preprosthetic surgery or orbitoplasty, one patient had benign tumor and the others had malignant tumors located on the palate or upper alveolus. Buccal mucosal graft donor site morbidity and trismus were minimal and healing of surgical defect was satisfactory. So we present the case with review of literatures.

        Effects of Fiber Length on the Reflection Loss of Electromagnetic Wave Absorbing Polypropylene/Carbon Fiber Composites Prepared by Injection Molding and by Screw Extrusion Process

        폴리프로필렌(polypropylene, PP)/탄소섬유 복합재료의 반사손실(reflection loss, RL)과 임피던스 매칭(impedance matching) 특성을 두 가지 다른 방법으로 제조된 PP/탄소섬유 복합재료에 관하여 연구하였다. 탄소섬유 함량을 10wt% 첨가하여 사출성형 가공방법으로 제조된 PP/탄소섬유 복합재료의 RL 값은 -29.1 dB로 나타났고, 같은 탄소섬유 함량을 첨가하여 압출성형 가공방법으로 제조된 PP/탄소섬유 복합재료의 RL 값은 -15.6 dB로 나타났다. 이와 같이 사출성형 방법을 이용하여 제조된 PP/탄소섬유 복합재료의 우수한 RL 특성은 제조된 복합재료의 임피던스 매칭 특성으로 인한 것으로서 이는 사출성형 방법으로 제조된 PP/탄소섬유 복합재료의 섬유길이가 압출성형 방법으로 제조된 복합재료의 섬유길이보다 더 길어서 발생하는 것으로 사료된다. 이상의 결과로부터 효과적인 전자파 흡수 PP/탄소섬유 복합재료를 얻기 위해서는 제조된 복합재료의 섬유길이가 중요한 요인임을 알 수 있다. The reflection loss (RL) performance and impedance matching characteristics of polypropylene (PP)/carbon fiber composite were studied according to two different composite preparation methods. For the PP/carbon fiber composite prepared by injection molding process, the RL value of -29.1 dB was achieved at low carbon fiber content (10 wt%), compared with the composite prepared by screw extrusion process (-15.6 dB). This good RL performance of the PP/carbon fiber composite prepared by the injection molding process was attributed to the impedance matching characteristic originating from the longer fiber length in the composite, than in the composite prepared by screw extrusion. The results suggest that the carbon fiber length in the composite is an important factor to achieve PP/carbon fiber composites that have effective electromagnetic wave absorbing properties.
