A Study on the Advancement Planning of the Design VE System
Hyun Ok,Choong-Han Han 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of u- and e- Service, Scienc Vol.9 No.5
The economic efficiency review of design, etc. (hereinafter, Value Engineering (VE)) is the work designed to use the minimum life-cycle cost (LCC) and review the economy and field adjustment feasibility of design contents by function and alternative measure to secure the necessary functions of facilities. To systematically and comprehensively manage the results of the design VE done by ordering agencies and to use such results for performing similar design works, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT) has constructed and is implementing the design VE system based on the Guidelines for the Review of Economy of Design, etc. (hereinafter, VE guidelines). The design VE system, however, is outdated because of the changes that were made in the input and management items when the VE guidelines were amended and because of the inappropriate function improvement since its construction. It currently requires the input of many unnecessary items, and the information is stored chiefly in the form of text, making it inappropriate to utilize the data for designing similar construction projects. This study proposes measures for the update of the design VE system to reflect the amendment of the VE guidelines, to simplify the unnecessary input functions, to boost the search function, and to provide diverse forms of statistics. These proposed update measures are expected to assess the comprehensive analysis of the design VE performance results, to share the design VE information with the ordering agencies and design firms so as to come up with effective alternative measures, to reduce construction project costs, and to improve the quality of construction projects.
An Efficient Non-Linear Cost Compression Algorithm for Multi Level Cell Memory
Hyunok Oh,Jihye Kim IEEE 2014 IEEE Transactions on Computers Vol.63 No.4
<P>This paper defines a non-linear cost compression problem, proposes an efficient algorithm, and applies it to a real application of multi level cell memory to minimize energy consumption and latency. The non-linear cost compression problem extends the traditional cost compression problem to allow a non-linear cost function of symbol frequencies, while it is a weighted linear combination of symbol frequencies in the cost compression problem. In order to solve the non-linear cost compression problem efficiently, we propose an encoding symbol frequency based approach. We first compute frequencies of encoding symbols to minimize a cost function. To achieve the computed frequencies of a cost-compressed message, we deploy existing size-decompression algorithms. The proposed algorithm is optimal and as fast as the existing size compression algorithms. Our experimental results show that it reduces the energy consumption and latency by 70 percent for a text file in multi level cell memory. Furthermore, it increases the lifetime of endurance limited memory.</P>
Mina as a New Type of New Woman Represented in Bram Stoker's Dracula
Hyunok Kim 한국영미어문학회 2014 영미어문학 Vol.- No.112
The purpose of this study is to examine the characterization of a new type of New Woman like Mina which appears in Bram stoker's novel, Dracula This study specifically focuses on how the ideal of Victorian womanhood is juxtaposed to the attributed horrors of the New Woman in Dracula. It therefore argues that Mina is Stoker's compromise, a woman who honors Victorian traditional ideas while adopting certain modem characteristics, making her a new ideal. In Dracula, Mina keeps two mental images. The first image is Mina as a mother. She not only manages to survive and overcome the vampiric sickness, but she also completes the Victorian ideal by becoming a mother. Motherhood is one of the most revered characteristics of the Victorian ideal of womanhood. Mina has the characteristics of older Victorian ideals and modem sensibilities. The second image is Mina as an example of the weaker sex that needs to be saved and protected by men. Stoker creates Mina's images as a new type of New Woman to make a bridge between the old and new values.
Anxieties of Victorian Society Represented in Bram Stoker`s Dracula
( Hyunok Kim ) 21세기영어영문학회 2013 영어영문학21 Vol.26 No.1
Conventional readings of m Stoker`s Dracula tend to focus on the sexuality of the vampire women and the degeneracy of Dracula. There is a large emphasis on the monster rather than on reasons why the anxieties of the British characters are so strongly felt and what these anxieties may truly be masking. This study explores the reactive anxieties felt by middle class white men concerning the New Woman and immigrants in the social and political aspects in Victorian society. It investigates meanings of British society`s multiple anxieties concerning the New Woman and the influx of immigrants at the fin de siecle.

The Enterococcus faecium (E. faecium) strain AK_C_05 was isolated from cheonggukjang, the Korean traditional food, collected from a local market in South Korea. In this report, we presented the complete genome sequence of E. faecium strain AK_C_05. The genome of E. faecium strain AK_C_05 genome consisted of one circular chromosome (2,691,319 bp) with a guanine + cytosine (GC) content of 38.3% and one circular plasmid (177,732 bp) with a GC content of 35.48%. The Annotation results revealed 2,827 protein-coding sequences (CDSs), 18 rRNAs, and 68 tRNA genes. It possesses genes, which encodes enzymes such as alpha-galactosidase (EC 3.2.1.22), beta-glucosidase (EC 3.2.1.21) and alpha-L-arabinofuranosidase (EC 3.2.1.55) enabling efficient utilization of carbohydrates. Based on Clusters of Orthologous Groups analysis, E. faecium strain AK_C_05 showed specialization in carbohydrate transport and metabolism indicating the ability to generate energy using a variety of carbohydrates.

Lucy and Three Vampire Women as the Proactive New Women Represented in Bram Stoker's Dracula
Hyunok Kim 한국영미어문학회 2013 영미어문학 Vol.- No.106
This study addresses how the middle class woman's adaptation from traditional to modem gender roles affects how they are treated. In Dracula Bram stoker shows his own opinion that how the female character, Lucy, adapts to the role of the New Woman determines the way in which they are treated in the social environment in the novel. This study also examines the three other women in the novel, Dracula's wives, who are often seen by critics as examples of the sexual predator "New Woman," but who are really victims of the patriarchal system. Through the novel Dracula, Bram Stoker offers ample opportunity in which the readers can think discourse in the Victorian society relative to the issues of the New Woman, gender roles, and ethnic purity caused by immigration. Through Dracula, he also explores the essence of fear of the Victorian period about women's changing roles and independence to be able to endanger men's perceived roles as protector and provider.
