Korean theatre, which has produced more than 400 Shakespearean works during the last two decades, has been continuously trying to Koreanize Shakespeare in various ways. One of the most notable approaches of Koreanization mixes gut (Korean shamanic ritual) with Shakespeare. Applying gut to Shakespeare carries more meaning than Koreanizing Shakespeare externally because it steps beyond employing such traditional Korean theatre forms as ‘talchum’ (mask dance), ‘kkokdugaksi noreum’ (puppet theatre), ‘madangnori’ (yard play) to constitute cultural, philosophical, and religious codes in connection with shamanism. Gut also creates a specific theatrical style. There are two ways to incorporate gut into Shakespeare. One is to bring Shakespeare into gut, and the other is to bring gut into Shakespeare. The former performs gut as it already exits in a Shakespeare play, and the latter performs gut figuratively by fusing it into a Shakespeare play. Recently, two Shakespearean productions seem to typify these two trends: Yang Jung-ung’s Hamlet for the former and Oh Tae-suk’s The Tempest for the latter. Even though their approaches for gut are quite different, they have common points in using gut throughout the play and realizing the meanings and the functions of gut on the stage. Through a dramaturgical analysis of these two productions with focus on gut, this article examines the significance and role, and the possibilities of gut in Koreanizing Shakespeare.
Measurement of Mach probe on plasma flow velocity in highly collisional plasma jet

A normalized plasma flow velocity in highly collisional plasma formed by a microwave plasma jet, which is dimensionless unit for plasma flow velocity/ion acoustic velocity, was measured by the parallel Mach probe. To deduce the normalized plasma flow velocity under highly collisional plasma conditions, the collisional model of a Mach probe was proposed. In addition, neutral gas flow velocity which assumed to be plasma flow velocity was calculated by the turbulent model. The results for the two different models were compared with those for the collsionless models of the Mach probe. The turbulent model produced 2–4 times reduced values than by measurements with collsionless models. The measured results with the collisional model were shown as approximately 100–250% lower than those for collsionless models. They were obtained to be in good agreement with difference rate of 10–30% when compared to those for the turbulent model.

Plasmid pCAMBIA2201-pta, containing the selectable marker neomycin phosphotransferase gene (npt II), Pinellia ternata agglutinin (PTA) gene and β-glucuronidase gene, were transformed into leaf discs of Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat.) via Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation. It was confrmed by GUS (β-glucuronidase) and PCR analysis that the PTA gene had been successfully inserted into the plant genome. Hemagglutination assay was carried out and the expression of PTA gene in transgenic plants in vitro and the aphid-resistance assay result showed that the inhibition rates of the transformed plants were improved than the control. T1 progenies generated through the cuttage breeding from T0 generation had preserved the aphid-resistance and the inhibition rates of T1 generation had no signifcant diference with T0 generation (P>0.05). The results suggest that PTA gene can improve aphid resistance of chrysanthemum and its aphid resistance can be generated to T1 generation stably.
