제주산 조생온주밀감과 보통온주의 크기별 과즙제조에 대한 가공적성을 검토하였다. 감귤이 커질수록 껍질이 두꺼워지고 과형지수가 커졌으며, pH가 약간 높아졌다. 중간크기의 감귤이 가용성고형물과 과즙율이 높았으며, 소형과 또는 대형과는 가공적성이 떨어졌다. 따라서 가공용 감귤의 경우도 생과용과 마찬가지로 내용성분에 의한 등급화로 가공공장의 경쟁력을 향상시킬 필요가 있을 것으로 여겨진다. Juice processing characteristics of Citrus unshiu produced in Cheju were investigated. Fruit weight, peel thickness, fruit index and pH of early and medium type of Citrus unshiu were highered linearly with increasing fruit size. Soluble solids and juice ratio were high in middle size of fruit, and juice processing characteristics was low in small and large size of citrus fruits. Grading of citrus fruits would be also needed for juice processing indusry.

Objectives : Clinical management of patient with lymphadenopathy requires judicious judgement of clinicians. Careful evaluation of lymph node enlargement by various clinical parameters will help to disclose the etiology of lymph node enlargement. This study was conducted to identify the clinical manifestations and etiology of lymphadenopathy in korean patients. Methods : A total 192 patients with lymph node enlargement were studied retrospectively. All patients who underwent excisional lymph node biopsy during the period from January 1992 to July 1994 were included. The lymph node biopsy and clinical records were reviewed and patient characteristics were analyzed by various clinical parameters. Results : A female predominance was noted in lymphadenopathy of tuberculosis (58.5%), Kikuchi's syndrome (70%). In lymphadenopathy of nonspecific, tuberculosis, kikuchi syndrome, per centage of patients younger than 40 years of age were 84.5%, 75.6%, 100%, respectively. In lymphadenopathy of tuberculosis and metastatic cancer, the duration of lymphadenopathy below 30days were 51.2%, 73.9%, respectively. The two most common etiology of cervical lymphadenopathy were nonspecific lymphadenitis (47.7%) and tuberculous (26.8%). The two most frequent etiology of supraclavicular lymphadenopathy were nonspecific lymphadenitis (46.3%) and metastatic lymphadenopathy (26.8%) and the most common etiology of axillary lymphadenopathy was nonspecific lymphadenopathy (34.5%). The most common frequent of lymph node enlargement with size below 1㎠ was nonspecific lymphadenitis, while above 2.25㎠ it was metastatic lymphadenopathy. Conclusion : Careful evaluation regarding patient age, sex, size of lymph node, consistency, location of lymph node, presence or absence of systemic symptoms should be pursued before performing a biopsy and management.
Structure , Regulation and Expression of the Penicillin G Acylase Gene from Escherichia Coli

The pga gene coding for penicillin G acylase (PGA) in Escherichia coli ATCC11105 was cloned, and its complete nucleotide sequence including 5`- and 3`-flanking regions was determined. Two nonidentical subunits that constitute an active PGA enzyme complex are known to be formed by processing of a common precursor molecule (1). This novel type of protein processing was confirmed by a nucleotide sequencing study together with amino acid sequencing of two PGA subunits. In addition, it was found that the initiation codon, AUG, is preceded by an authentic ribosome-binding site, a consensus promoter sequence and putative cAMP receptor protein (CRP)-binding sites, and that the termination codon, UAA, is followed by a putative transcriptional terminator. The promoter function was confirmed by galactokinase assay using galK fusion plasmids. Using the recombinant plasmids with or without the regulatory region of PGA, the regulatory site responsible for phenylacetic acid induction was elucidated.
Characterization of UV - Sensitive Mutant of Aspergillus nidulans

An UV sensitive mutant, B5, isolated from Asp. nidulans, was extremely sensitive to UV but slightly to monofunctional alkylating agent. UV sensitivity increases up to conidia germination. The UV irradiated cells were photoreactivated to almost same level as wild type. Liquid holding recovery did not affect survival rate of the UV irradiated cells and liquid holding recovery after the first irradiation did not increase the cell survival rate by secondary UV irradiation. The mutation produced the unusually high frequency of aneuploid formation. The mutant was deficient in UV induced mutagenesis. No ascospore was developed in homozygotic cross. Neither the diploid homozygous for mutant gene nor that heterozygous for mutant gene and uvsH1 was effectively crossed.
