INEQUALITIES OF HERMITE-HADAMARD TYPE FOR n-TIMES DIFFERENTIABLE ARITHMETIC-HARMONICALLY FUNCTIONS

        Huriye Kadakal 호남수학회 2022 호남수학학술지 Vol.44 No.2

In this work, by using an integral identity together with both the H¨older and the power-mean integral inequalities we establish several new inequalities for n-times differentiable arithmeticharmonically-convex function. Then, using this inequalities, we obtain some new inequalities connected with means. In special cases, the results obtained coincide with the well-known results in the literature

      • Outcome of Daily Cisplatin with Thoracic Chemoradiotherapy in Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Patients with Comorbid Disorders: a Pilot Study

Kiziltan, Huriye Senay,Bayir, Ayse Gunes,Tastekin, Didem,Coban, Ganime,Eris, Ali Hikmet,Aydin, Teoman,Mayadagli, Alparslan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.20

Background: Lung cancer is the most common cancer in males worldwide. The principal mode of treatment in the early stage of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is surgery. However, five-year survival is only about 15% for all stages. The aim is to investigate the effect of daily low dose cisplatin concurrently with radiation therapy in advanced NSCLC patients with poor performance status. Materials and Methods: Ten patients diagnosed as inoperable Stage IIIB NSCLC with comorbid disease were assessed retrospectively in Bezmialem Vakif University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Radiation Oncology, between 2011 to 2013. ECOG performance status was between 3 and 4. Cisplatin was administered at $6mg/m^2$ daily, for 5 days a week concurrently with radiotherapy using 160-200 cGy daily fractions, 54 Gy being the lowest and 63 Gy being the highest dose. Results: Complete response at the primary tumour site was obtained in 20% patients. Grade I esophagitis was seen 70 percent of patients, and the grade II haematological toxicity rate was 20 %. Median survival time was 7 months. Conclusions: Median survival time was reasonable, despite the patients ECOG performance status of 3-4, which is similar to groups even without comorbid disorders in comparison to other published papers in the literature. Acceptable toxicity, high response rates and quality of life of patients are the other favourable features.

Hydro-mechanical Behavior of Polypropylene Fiber Reinforced Expansive Soils

Mona Malekzadeh,Huriye Bilsel 대한토목학회 2014 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.18 No.7

This paper presents a series of laboratory tests and evaluates the effect of polypropylene fiber inclusion on volume change behavior and soil-water characteristics of expansive soils. Specimens were statically compacted at maximum Proctor dry density and optimum moisture content with 0%, 0.5% and 1% polypropylene fiber inclusions by dry weight of the soil, and their volume change behavior was studied through swell-shrinkage and consolidation tests. The soil-water characteristic behavior, which is the most significant aspect of soils, was also obtained by a series of matric suction measurements using filter paper technique. It was concluded that polypropylene fiber inclusion is very effective in reducing the compression and swell indices and swell pressures as well as one- dimensional swell amount in saturated condition. Upon desiccation, shrinkage of reinforced soil reduced considerably, as the shrinkage limit increased by more than 50%. Therefore, fiber reinforcement can effectively reduce swell-shrink movement of expansive soils.

Prealbumin and Retinol Binding Proteins Are Not Usable for Nutrition Follow-Up in Pediatric Intensive Care Units

        Hakan Tekgüç,Deniz özel,Huriye Sanaldi,Halide Akbaş,Oğuz Dursun 대한소아소화기영양학회 2018 Pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology & nutrition Vol.21 No.4

Purpose: Feeding children is a problem in pediatric intensive care units (PICU) and it is difficult to know the correct amount. The purpose of this study is to evaluate if prealbumin or retinol binding proteins (RBP) are effective relative to daily enteral nutrition, without being affected by severity of diseases or infections and can be used to follow up nutritional amount. Methods: This is a prospective observational study that includes 81 patients admitted to PICU in Akdeniz University with estimated duration >72 hours, age between 1 month and 8 years. Daily calorie and protein intake were calculated and prealbumin, RBP and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were measured on the first, third, fifth and seventh mornings. Results: We find moderate correlation between daily calorie intake and prealbumin levels (r=0.432, p<0.001), RBP levels and daily protein intake (r=0.330, p<0.001). When we investigated the relationship between changes of prealbumin, RBP, CRP, calorie and protein intake during intensive care stay, we found that increase of Prealbumin and RBP levels are explained by decrease of CRP levels (r=−0.546 and −0.645, p<0.001) and not with increase of nourishment. Conclusion: Even adjusted for PRISM3, age and CRP, prealbumin and RBP are correlated with last 24 hours’ diet. However, it is not convenient to use as a follow up biomarker because increase of their levels is related with decrease of CRP levels.

ON IMPROVEMENTS OF SOME INTEGRAL INEQUALITIES

        ( Mahir Kadakal ),( İmdat İşcan ),( HURIYE KADAKAL ),( KERIM BEKAR ) 호남수학회 2021 호남수학학술지 Vol.43 No.3

In this paper, improved power-mean integral inequality, which provides a better approach than power-mean integral inequality, is proved. Using Hölder-İşcan integral inequality and improved power-mean integral inequality, some inequalities of Hadamard’s type for functions whose derivatives in absolute value at certain power are quasi-convex are given. In addition, the results obtained are compared with the previous ones. Then, it is shown that the results obtained together with identity are better than those previously obtained.

      • Nurses' Perspective on Positive Attitudes to Cancer Patients in Turkey: A Qualitative Study

Usta, Yasemin Yildirim,Demir, Yurdanur,Yagmuroglu, Huriye Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.4

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the meaning of "positive attitude" for medical surgical nurses in caring for cancer patients. Methods: A qualitative method was used in this qualitative descriptive study with data from nurses who had volunteered to participate in an in-depth interview that was conducted between January and February 2012. A total of 10 nurses in general medical and surgical wards of a district hospital were interviewed. Results: The study used three broad themes to describe this multifaceted construct: showing empathy, seeing positively and behaving positively. The nurses were aware of their attitudes towards being positive with cancer patients and its significance in support for cancer patients. Conclusions: The findings of this study can serve as a platform upon which educational and other support programmes can be developed in order to meet the needs of those general nurses working with cancer patients. Future studies are recommended to examine nurses' beliefs about cancer that are thought to affect positive attitudes toward cancer patients.

Altered platelet proteome in lupus anticoagulant (LA)-positive patients—protein disulfide isomerase and NETosis as new players in LA-related thrombosis

        Lena Hell,Kristina Lurger,Lisa-Marie Mauracher,Ella Grilz,Christina Maria Reumiller,Georg Johannes Schmidt,Huriye Ercan,Silvia Koder,Alice Assinger,José Basilio,Johanna Gebhart,Cihan Ay,Ingrid Pabinge 생화학분자생물학회 2020 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.52 No.-

Patients with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) are at high risk of developing venous and arterial thromboembolism (TE). The role of platelets in the pathogenesis of these prothrombotic conditions is not yet fully understood. The aim of this study was to gain mechanistic insights into the role of platelets in APS by comparing the platelet proteome between lupus anticoagulant (LA)-positive patients with (LA+TE+) and without a history of TE (LA+TE−) and healthy controls. The platelet proteome of 47 patients with LA, 31 with a history of TE and 16 without thrombotic history, and 47 healthy controls was analyzed by two-dimensional differential in-gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry to identify disease-related proteins. Afterward, selected LA-related platelet proteins were validated by western blot and ELISA. Alterations of 25 proteins were observed between the study groups. STRING pathway analysis showed that LArelated protein profiles were involved in platelet activation, aggregation, and degranulation. For example, protein disulfide isomerase family members, enzymes that promote thrombosis, were upregulated in platelets and plasma of LA+TE+patients. Leukocyte elastase inhibitor (SERPINB1), an antagonist of neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation, was decreased in platelets of LA+TE+patients compared to healthy controls. Additionally, citrullinated histone H3, a NET-specific marker, was increased in plasma of LA+TE+patients. These findings suggest that decreased platelet SERPINB1 levels favor prothrombotic NETosis, especially in LA+TE+patients. Our findings reveal protein abundance changes connected to altered platelet function in LA-positive patients, thus suggesting a pathogenic role of platelets in thrombotic complications in APS.
