      • Inflation parameters from Gauss–Bonnet braneworld

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We calculate the spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio for patch inflation arisen from the Gauss–Bonnet braneworld scenario. The patch cosmological models consist of Gauss–Bonnet (GB), Randall–Sundrum (RS), and 4D general relativistic (GR) cases. In order to compare with the observation data, we perform leading-order calculations for all patch models by choosing large-field, small-field, and hybrid potentials. We show that the large-field potentials are sensitive to a given patch model, while the small-field and hybrid potentials are insensitive to a given patch model. It is easier to discriminates between quadratic potential and quartic potential in the GB model rather than RS and GR models. Irrespective of patch models, it turns out that the small-field potentials are the promising models in view of the observation.</P>

      • Audio-Lingual Method에 對한 재검토

        영어교육을 어떻게 하면 보다 효과적으로 할 수 있는가 하는 문제는 오늘날 누구나 커다란 관심을 갖고 있는 중요한 문제다. 지금까지 우리나라에서 실시 되어온 영어교육이 소기의 목적을 달성했다고 보는 사람은 많지 않다. 영어를 중학에서 대학까지 10년 동안에 걸쳐 배웠지만, 대부분이 습득을 하지 못한채 귀중한 시간만 보낸 것이다. 그러기 때문에 종래의 교수방법에 대한 문제점을 알아 볼 필요성을 느끼게 한다. 이 글에서는 외국어 교육사상 지금까지 사용 되어져온 여러가지 교수법들 가운데서 오늘날 새로운 기대와 열렬한 지지 속에 널리 사용 되어지고 있는 Audio-lingual method에 대해서 살펴 보았다. Audio-lingual method에서는 대화의 암기와 문형연습이 학습활동의 중심이 되는데, 이 교수법의 장점은 정확한 발음연스과 청각훈련, 정상적인 속도의 대화를 듣고 이해하는 훈련, 정상적인 속도로 만하는 훈련, 습관적이고 자동적으로 언어 반응을 나타내는 훈련 등에 있다고 할 수 있다. 그러나, 한편 문형연습과 같은 기계적인 연습에의 치중, 적절한 설명의 부족, 학습활동의 다양성의 결여, 참된 언어행위, 즉 창조적 언어활동의 성격을 띤 연습의 결핍 등은 이 방법의 큰 단점이라고 할 수 있다. Audio/lingual method는 우리나라 외국어교육에도 널리 알려져 있으나 실지 학습에는 적용되지 못하고 잇는 실정이다. 그 이유는 교육제도·교육시설·유능한 교사의 확보 교재내용 Audio-lingual method의 이론과 실제 양면의 차이점 등 여러가지 객관적인 요소들의 결여 때문에 이에 대한 많은 연구가 뒤따라야만 되겠다.

        Integrative Assessment of Benzene Exposure to <i>Caenorhabditis elegans</i> Using Computational Behavior and Toxicogenomic Analyses

        <P>In this study, we investigated the toxic effects of benzene to the nematode <I>Caenorhabditis elegans</I> in an integrative manner, using computational behavior and toxicogenomics analyses, along with survival and reproduction. Benzene exposure led to changes in locomotive behavior and reproduction decline in <I>C. elegans</I>. Microarray followed by pathway analysis revealed that 228 genes were differentially expressed by benzene exposure, and <I>cyp-35a2</I>, <I>pmk-1</I>, and <I>cep-1</I> were selected for further reproduction and multiparametric behavior analysis. Mutant analysis showed that benzene induced reproduction decline was rescued in <I>cyp-35a2(gk317)</I> mutant, whereas it was significantly exacerbated in <I>pmk-1(km25)</I> mutant, compared with the <I>wildtype</I>. The multiparametric behavior analysis on the mutants of selected genes revealed that each strain exhibits different response patterns, particularly, enhanced linear movement in the <I>cyp-35a2(gk317)</I> mutant, whereas the changes in partial body movement were observed in the <I>pmk-1(km25)</I> mutant by benzene exposure. A self-organizing map revealed that the <I>pmk-1(km25)</I> mutant group was the most densely clustered and located on the opposite side of the map of the <I>cyp-35a2(gk317)</I> mutant, each crossing that of the <I>wildtype</I>. Overall results suggest distinct roles of <I>cyp-35a2</I> and <I>pmk-1</I> genes in benzene-induced alterations in behavior and reproduction in <I>C. elegans</I>.       • 韓國 國民學校 兒童의 TV 受容形態에 관한 硏究 : 價値志向에 미치는 영향을 中心으로 With focus on value formation

        This article attempts to explore the role of television as an agent of socialization for elementary school children. The study on the socialization of the children is crucial in learning about the process and mechanism of value formation among the children. In line with the critical· statement by Bernard Berelson about selective effect of mass communication that "some kinds of communication on some kinds of issues, brought to the attention of some kinds of people under same kinds of conditions, have some kinds of effects," this study investigates the extent to which the exposure to television by children brings about on value orientation on the part of the children. This study is undertaken under the assumption that in the process of rapid social change toward industrialization, television may have a strong influence on formation of a value orientation. In the analysis of data collected from among primary school children in Seoul, it is found that television which tends to reinforce dominant values have a greater impact than we expect on formation of values on the part of children. Interesting in this respect is the fact that socio-economic status of children's parents plays the role of differentiating between the lower and the upper class children in terms of television exposure time, emotional response to television, and achievement motivation. Also found in this study is that by sex the degree of exposure to and effect by television are at variance. when asked about their future occupational plan, the one suggested by their parents and that they selected by their own rights are also at variance. It is interesting to find that interaction with mothers is significantly related to which programs children select, but the intimate interaction does not seem to be related to tendency of imitation, emotional reaction, and psychological identification. Even when children are not well integrated into his family, few children were found to attempt to imitate what they have watched in television programs, according to this study. In the meantime, televrsion programs are influencing the formation of values to a great extent, but children were to be capable of distinguishing between reality and fiction. Except for late hour programs, parents do not seem have any control over television program selection, that is, children have free hands in selecting what ever programs they want to watch. Academic achievements are highly correlated with TV viewing but not significantly related to tendency of imitation, emotional reaction, and identification.

      • Development of Program for Application of Radar Rainfall Data to the Field of Hydrology and Disaster Prevention

        With the increase in damage by typhoon, localized heavy rain and flash flood, there is active research on the application of radar rainfall data. The ability to indicate spatial rainfall distribution and variability in rainfall in ungaged basin is beneficial for disaster prevention and for hydrology field. But hands-on staff and researchers in the field of hydrology and disaster prevention, who first use radar data, experience trials and errors converting radar data in an UF format and calibrating radar data using gauge rainfall, and have a lot of difficulties until they use radar data. Accordingly, this study developed a program for analysis and calibration of radar data and reviewed the applicability in order to satisfy the need of tool to use radar data more easily and accurately. The program consists of configuration, execution, radar data display(PPI/CAPPI) and radar data calibration.In this study, data produced by the developed program was directly applied to the rainfall-runoff model, and the result was compared and was considered to verify the applicability of the program. As a result, using the program reduced the time required for constructing data and analyzing basins, and it is thought that this program will be helpful providing that flash flood and urban flood are brought about in a short time. Furthermore, it can be used in predicting and forecasting flood in the field of hydrology and disaster prevention by expanding the program for rainfall forecast data in the future
