A Multi-Dimensional and Hierarchical Model of Service Quality in the Gaming Industry

The burgeoning development of integrated casinos and the rapid growth of the gaming industry in Macau have attracted much interest in understanding the success of this market. The purpose of this study is to examine service quality in the gaming industry by developing a conceptual framework and measurement scale. Based on an extensive literature review, and qualitative and empirical research, a multi-dimensional and hierarchical model of service quality for the gaming industry is proposed. The analysis of data collected from a total of 510 customers revealed that the proposed model fitted the data well. The validity and reliability of the measurement scale were established using a pretest and the substantive survey. This study extends the literature on service quality in the field of casino management by providing a psychometrically sound conceptual framework and measurement scale. Implications, limitations and directions for future studies are discussed.
Design of Current Sensorless Control for Totem-Pole Boost PFC Converter

A simple current sensorless control for totem-pole boost converter is aimed to achieve superior power factor correction (PFC). In recent years, conduction loss and reverserecovery issues have been improved by the advanced power devices, and thus the converter’s efficiency and reliability are enhanced. Moreover, this converter topology has good potentiality for high-power applications. There are only two voltage sensors in both ac-side and dc-side for providing voltage information, which is an effective control strategy without current transducer. In addition, an equivalent singleswitch model of totem-pole boost PFC converter is offered that is an efficient approach to analyze the converter’s behaviors. Finally, some analytical results are given to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed current sensorless control method.

Objective: The impact of serotonergic system on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is well studied. However, the correlation between OC presentations and autonomic nervous system (ANS) is still unclear. Furthermore, whether the correlation might be modulated by serotonin is also uncertain. Methods: We recruited eighty-nine healthy subjects. Serotonin transporter (SERT) availability by [123I]ADAM and heart rate variability (HRV) tests were measured. Symptoms checklist-90 was measured for the OC presentations. The interaction between HRV and SERT availability were calculated and the correlation between HRV and OC symptoms were analyzed after stratified SERT level into two groups, split at medium. Results: The interactions were significant in the factors of low frequency (LF), high frequency (HF), and root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD). Furthermore, the significantly negative correlations between OC symptoms and the above HRV indexes existed only in subjects with higher SERT availability. Conclusion: OC symptoms might be correlated with ANS regulations in subjects with higher SERT availability.
End-to-end Service Assurance in 5G Crosshaul Networks

More and more telecom operators around the world began to build and to deploy fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks. With the advent of 5G service scenarios, it brings new challenges and increases the complexity of management. To deliver good quality of experience of these 5G applications for customers, service assurance is important. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end service assurance solution for 5G crosshaul networks. The 5G crosshaul network architecture consists of fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul networks. Our solution deployed in 5G trial network in Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan. The solution focus on slicing service assurance and synchronization monitoring. Besides, our solution adjusts most of network management in the operation support system (OSS) to apply to 5G crosshaul network. Our goal is to provide stable 5G transport network and to assure quality of experience for customers.

Fucosyltransferases (FucTs) usually catalyze the final step of glycosylation and are critical to many biological processes. High levels of specific FucT activities are often associated with various cancers. Here we report the development of a chemoenzymatic method for synthesizing a library of GDP-L-fucose derivatives, followed by in situ screening for inhibitory activity against bacterial and human -1,3-FucTs (4). Several compounds incorporating appropriate hydrophobic moieties were identified from the initial screening. These were individually synthesized, purified and characterized in detail for their inhibition kinetics. Compound 5 had a Ki of 29 nM for human FucT-VI, and is 269 and 11 times more selective than for Helicobacter pylori FucT (Ki = 7.8 □ M) and for human FucT-V (Ki = 0.31 □ M).
A Persistence Probability Analysis in Major Financial Indices

We analyzed twenty world stock market indices and compared the persistence properties among these countries. Two methods were used in the analyses: (1) the price-price correlation analysis technique and (2) the persistence analysis technique. Our studies are based on numerical estimates of the persistence exponent p and the Hurst exponent H2. The relation p = 1 . H2 among these countries is also discussed.g
The Effect of Monetary Policies on the Relationship between Advertising and Mutual Fund Flows

This paper investigates the effect of monetary policies, mainly proxied by interest rate changes, on the relationship between advertising and subsequent net cash flows for Taiwan’s mutual fund industry. Based on a comprehensive mutual fund dataset and allowing for a precise estimation of fund inflows and outflows, we find that there is a positive advertising–cash flow relation under different macroeconomic conditions. Taking into account a change in the interest rate, we document that the positive relationship between the two only exists when the interest rate is at a relatively low level regardless of restrictive and expansionary periods. Our empirical findings shed new light on marketing strategies whereby mutual fund advertising works well during relatively low interest rate environments, which are generally interpreted as exhibiting low cost of capital and a good signal of future economic conditions.
Concrete compressive strength identification by impact-echo method

A clear correlation exists between the compressive strength and elastic modulus of concrete. Unfortunately, determining the static elastic modulus requires destructive methods and determining the dynamic elastic modulus is greatly complicated by the shape and size of the specimens. This paper reports on a novel approach to the prediction of compressive strength in concrete cylinders using numerical calculations in conjunction with the impact-echo method. This non-destructive technique involves obtaining the speeds of P-waves and S-waves using correction factors through numerical calculation based on frequencies measured using the impact-echo method. This approach makes it possible to calculate the dynamic elastic modulus with relative ease, thereby enabling the prediction of compressive strength. Experiment results demonstrate the speed, convenience, and efficacy of the proposed method.
