        Association between ABCB1 Polymorphisms and Antidepressant Treatment Response in Taiwanese Major Depressive Patients

        Objective: The multidrug resistance 1 (ABCB1, MDR1) gene, encoding P-glycoprotein, is extensively distributed and expressed in various tissues, such as a blood-brain barrier transporter. P-glycoprotein plays an important role in controlling the passage of substances between the blood and brain. The current study aimed to investigate possible associations of functional ABCB1 polymorphisms (C3435T, G2677T and C1236T) with response to antidepressant treatment and serum cortisol levels in Taiwanese patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Methods: We recruited 112 MDD patients who were randomized to fluoxetine (n=58, mean dose: 21.4±4.5 mg/day) or venlafaxine (n=54, 80.2±34.7 mg/day) treatment for 6 weeks. The 21-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) was administered initially and biweekly after treatment, and cortisol levels were assessed initially and after 6-week antidepressant treatment. Results: The initial HDRS scores and the HDRS scores after six weeks of antidepressant treatment were not significantly different among the different genotypes in each polymorphism of ABCB1. The percentage changes of HDRS scores over time were significantly different in the polymorphisms of ABCB1 G2677T (p=0.002). MDD patients with the G/G genotype of ABCB1 G2677T had a worse antidepressant treatment response. However, the polymorphisms of ABCB1 genotypes were not significantly associated with cortisol levels before and after antidepressant treatment in MDD patients. Conclusion: The results suggested that the variants of ABCB1 may influence the short-term antidepressant response in MDD patients. Further details of the underlying mechanisms of ABCB1 in antidepressant treatment remain to be clarified.

        Influence on Intellectual Property Right by China’s Anti-Monopoly Law

        2007년 제정된 신 독점규제법은 중국 최초의 독점규제에 관한 포괄적 법률로서 총 57개의 조문으로 구성되어 있다. 신 독점규제법의 주요내용은 경쟁을 제한하거나 배제하는 행위로서 독점적 성격을 갖는 행위에 대하여 규정하고 있다. 또한 동 법에서는 동 법을 위반한 행위에 대한 형사처벌 규정을 두고 있다. 이 중 특히 주목해야 할 부분은 제55조로서 제55조에서는 지적재산권의 남용과 그 효과로서 경쟁을 제한하는 것에 동 법이 적용 될 수 있음을 규정하고 있다. 제55조에서는 우선 지적재산권법과 독점규제법이 충돌할 수 있음을 전제로 그럼에도 불구하고 권리자가 법률에 따라 지적재산권을 행사하는 경우에 두 법이 상호 보충적인 역할을 하게 됨을 기술하고 있다. 지적재산권은 독점배타권을 통하여 창작자의 창작을 장려하는 반면 독점규제법은 독점을 금지하고 경쟁 제한행위를 배제함에 그 목적이 있다. 그러나 독점규제법은 권리자의 정당한 권리행사를 유도함으로써 지적재산권법의 효율성이 달성될 수 있도록 한다는 점에서 실제로는 보충적인 역할을 한다고 할 수 있다. 제55조에서는 지적재산권의 행사가 원칙적으로 독점권의 남용 원칙의 적용을 받도록 하고 있다. 이는 WTO TRIPS 제40조를 반영한 것으로 2007년 유럽연합에서는 과연 중국 신 독점규제법 제55조가 TRIPS 제40조를 반영한 것인지에 대하여 의문을 제기한 바 있다. 그러나 유럽연합이 제기한 의문이 아니라도 구체적 규칙이나 지침이 없는 상태에서 중국이 어떻게 이 규정을 해석할 것인지는 여전히 불투명하다. 만일 권리자가 지적재산권의 행사에 대하여 제55조의 적용을 받을 수 없는 경우라도 제15조의 예외규정의 적용을 받을 수 있을 것이다. 제15조에서는 기술개발, 연구 및 신제품 개발을 위한 목적을 가진 합의에 대하여 독점규제법의 예외를 인정하고 있으며 지적재산권의 행사는 이러한 예외에 해당할 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 제55조와 제15조가 어떠한 관계가 있는지는 이에 관한 규칙이나 지침이 없는 상태에서 명확하지 않다. 따라서 지적재산권과 독점규제법의 조화로운 해석을 위해서는 다음과 같은 과제가 해결되어야 한다. 첫째, 지적재산권의 남용행위에 대해서도 과태료와 같은 행정벌이 가해질 수 있는지가 명확하게 규정되어야 한다. 둘째, 지적재산권 남용에 대하여 인정되는 민사적 구제제도가 좀 더 구체적으로 규정되어야 한다. 물론 현재도 독점행위에 적용되는 민사적 구제제도가 무엇인지 법에 규정되어 있지만 그러한 구제제도 중 지적재산권 남용에 적용되는 것이 어느 것인지가 명확하지 않다. 셋째, 지적재산권 남용행위와 관련된 재판절차에 적용될 증거법을 정하는 사법해석이나 지침이 만들어져야 한다. 넷째, 독점규제법 자체가 지나치게 막연하고 추상적으로 규정되어 있어 법집행자의 자의적 해석이 적용될 여지가 매우 넓다. 그러므로 좀 더 명확하고 구체적인 입법정비가 필요하다. 종합적으로 이러한 입법작업은 중국 정부가 표방하는 “혁신형 지식국가” 건설을 위한 중대한 기반이 될 것으로 기대된다.

        Simultaneous Single-Position Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion Surgery and Unilateral Percutaneous Pedicle Screw Fixation for Spondylolisthesis

        Objective: To evaluate the clinical and radiological efficacy of a combine of lateral single screw-rod and unilateral percutaneous pedicle screw fixation (LSUP) for lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF) in the treatment of spondylolisthesis. Methods: Sixty-two consecutive patients with lumbar spondylolisthesis who underwent minimally invasive (MIS)-TLIF with bilateral pedicle screw (BPS) or LLIF-LSUP were retrospectively studied. Segmental lordosis angle (SLA), lumbar lordosis angle (LLA), disc height (DH), slipping percentage, the cross-sectional areas (CSA) of the thecal sac, screw placement accuracy, fusion rate and foraminal height (FH) were used to evaluate radiographic changes postoperatively. Visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were used to evaluate the clinical efficacy. Results: Patients who underwent LLIF-LSUP showed shorter operating time, less length of hospital stay and lower blood loss than MIS-TLIF. No statistical difference was found between the 2 groups in screw placement accuracy, overall complications, VAS, and ODI. Compared with MIS-TLIF-BPS, LLIF-LSUP had a significant improvement in sagittal parameters including DH, FH, LLA, and SLA. The CSA of MIS-TLIF-BPS was significantly increased than that of LLIF-LSUP. The fusion rate of LLIF-LSUP was significantly higher than that of MIS-TLIF-BPS at the follow-up of 3 months postoperatively, but there was no statistical difference between the 2 groups at the follow-up of 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months. Conclusion: The overall clinical outcomes and complications of LLIF-LSUP were comparable to that of MIS-TLIF-BPS in this series. Compared with MIS-TLIF-BPS, LLIF-LSUP for lumbar spondylolisthesis represents a significantly shorter operating time, hospital stay and lower blood loss, and demonstrates better radiological outcomes to maintain lumbar lordosis, and reveal an overwhelming superiority in the early fusion rate.

        Identification and Characterization of the Antifungal Substances of a Novel Streptomyces cavourensis NA4s

        A new actinomycete strain NA4 was isolated from a deep-sea sediment collected from the South China Sea and showed promising antifungal activities against soilborne fungal pathogens. It was identified as Streptomyces cavourensis by morphological, physiological, and phylogenetic analyses based on its 16S rRNA gene sequence. The main antifungal components were isolated and identified from the fermentation culture as bafilomycins B1 and C1. These compounds exhibited significant antifungal activities and a broad antifungal spectrum. The results suggest that the Streptomyces cavourensis NA4 and bafilomycins B1 and C1 could be used as potential biocontrol agents for soilborne fungal diseases of plants.

        The role of the genomic mutation signature and tumor mutation burden on relapse risk prediction in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma after concurrent chemoradiotherapy

        Personalized genetic profiling has focused on improving treatment efficacy and predicting risk stratification by identifying mutated genes and selecting targeted agents according to genetic testing. Therefore, we evaluated the role of genetic profiling and tumor mutation burden (TMB) using next-generation sequencing in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC). The relapse mutation signature (RMS) and chromatin remodeling mutation signature (CRMS) were explored to predict the risk of relapse in patients with HNSC treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) with platinum-based chemotherapy. Patients in the high RMS and CRMS groups showed significantly shorter relapse-free survival than those in the low RMS and CRMS groups, respectively (p < 0.001 and p = 0.006). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that extranodal extension, CCRT response, and three somatic mutation profiles (TMB, RMS, and CRMS) were independent risk predictors for HNSC relapse. The predictive nomogram showed satisfactory performance in predicting relapse-free survival in patients with HNSC treated with CCRT.

        VR영화의 롱 테이크와 전통영화의 롱 테이크의 차이성에 관한 연구 - VR 단편영화 “HELP”를 중심으로 -

        VR 기술이 지속적으로 발달되면서 VR 기술의 가장 큰 장점이라 할 수 있는 체험형 몰입도는 다양한 분야에서 널리 활용되고 있다. 게임 분야뿐만 아니라 영화부분에서도 VR 기술의 활용에 대해서 많은 기대를 하고 있다. 하지만 신기술에 대한 방법론이 발전되지 않은 단계이며 VR 기술에 의하여 표현되는 입체적인 공간의 움직임으로 인한 관객들의 어지럼증 문제 등이 여전히 발생하고 있다. 이러한 기술적인 한계로 인하여 VR영화제작 방법에 차이에 대하여 중점적으로 논의하고자 한다. 본 연구는 제작 기법, 화면의 시각적 초점, 관람자와 영화 제작자의 관계 등 세 가지 측면을 분석 기준으로 하고 VR단편 영화 < help >와 전통영화의 롱 테이크 영화장면의 사례 비교 분석 방법을 통해 전통영화의 롱 테이크와 VR영화의 롱 테이크의 차이성을 정리하고자 한다. 아울러 본 연구가 본인의 후속 연구의 기초 자료와 선행연구로써 활용될 것이다. As the VR technology evolves continuously, the experience immersion, which is the greatest advantage of the VR technology, has been widely used in various fields. The utilization of VR technologies is highly expected not only in games but also in movies. However, the methodology for the new technology has not been fully established and there are still several issues including the vertigo of the audience due to the 3-D movements expressed by the VR technology. Due to these technical limitations, VR films are often produced by using a method similar to the traditional long-take. The objectives of this study were to define the long-take used in VR films and that in traditional films and to discuss the difference between these two methods. This study approached these objectives from three basic aspects: production technique, visual focus of screen, and the relationship between audiences and filmmakers. This study also analyzed the difference between the long-take of traditional films with that of VR films by comparing long-take scenes in “Help”, a VR short film, and long-take scenes in traditional films., And sort out the differences. Additionally, the results of this study are expected to be the baseline data for follow-up studies.

      • Intensity-modulated Radiotherapy Combined with Endocrine Therapy for Intermediate and Advanced Prostate Cancer: Long-term Outcome of Chinese Patients

        Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate acute adverse events and efficacy of three-dimensional intensitymodulated radiotherapy (IMRT) combined with endocrine therapy for intermediate and advanced prostate cancer. Methods: Sixty-seven patients were treated with three-dimensional IMRT combined with maximum androgen blockade. The correlation between radiation-induced rectal injury and clinical factors was further analyzed. Results: After treatment, 21 patients had complete remission (CR), 37 had partial remission (PR), and nine had stable disease (SD), with an overall response rate of 86.5%. The follow-up period ranged from 12.5 to 99.6 months. Thirty-nine patients had a follow-up time of ${\geq}$ five years. In this group, three-year and five-year overall survival rates were 89% and 89.5%, respectively; three-year and five-year progression-free survival rates were 72% and 63%. In univariate analyses, gross tumor volume was found to be prognostic for survival ($X^2$ = 5.70, P = 0.037). Rates of leucopenia and anemia were 91.1% and 89.5%, respectively. Two patients developed acute liver injury, and a majority of patients developed acute radiation proctitis and cystitis, mainly grade 1/2. Tumor volume before treatment was the only prognostic factor influencing the severity of acute radiation proctitis (P < 0.05). Conclusions: IMRT combined with endocrine therapy demonstrated promising efficacy and was well tolerated in patients with intermediate and advanced prostate cancer.

        Continuous Conversion of Rice Starch Hydrolysate to 2-keto-D-gluconic Acid by Arthrobacter globiformis C224

        A continuous conversion process of rice starch hydrolysate to 2-keto-D-gluconic acid (2KGA) by Arthrobacter globiformis C224 was developed. Its feasibility for industrial application was also evaluated. Results showed that the initial cell concentration exceeding 1.25 g/L met the continuous 2KGA production at a stable dilution rate and media composition, while the dilution rate and feeding glucose concentration had a significant effect on 2KGA production performance. The optimal operating parameters were obtained as: 0.090/h of dilution rate and 171.0 g/L of feeding glucose concentration. Under these conditions, the steady state had a produced 2KGA concentration of 124.74 g/L, average volumetric productivity of 11.23 g/L/h,and yield of 0.97 g/g. In conclusion, continuous 2KGA production by the A. globiformis C224 strain would be a superior industrial process for the production of 2KGA in terms of its high 2KGA productivity and yield.
