Neointimal proliferation after vascular injury is a key mechanism of restenosis, a major cause of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty failure and artery bypass occlusion. Emodin, an anthraquinone with multiple physiological activities, has been reported to inhibit proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) that might cause intimal arterial thickening. Thus, in this study, we established a rat model of balloon-injured carotid artery and investigated the therapeutic effect of emodin and its underlying mechanism. Intimal thickness was analyzed by hematoxylin and eosin staining. Expression of Wnt4, dvl-1, β-catenin and collagen was determined by immunohistochemistry and/or western blotting. The proliferation of VSMC was evaluated by MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay and electron microscopy. MicroRNA levels were quantified by real-time quantitative PCR. Emodin relieved injury-induced artery intimal thickness. Results of western blots and immunohistochemistry showed that emodin suppressed expression of signaling molecules Wnt4/Dvl-1/β-catenin as well as collagen protein in the injured artery. In addition, emodin enhanced expression of an artery injury-related microRNA, miR-126. In vitro, MTT assay showed that emodin suppressed angiotensin II (AngII)-induced proliferation of VSMCs. Emodin reversed AngII-induced activation of Wnt4/Dvl-1/β-catenin signaling by increasing expression of miR-126 that was strongly supported by transfection of mimic or inhibitor for miR-126. Emodin prevents intimal thickening via Wnt4/Dvl-1/β-catenin signaling pathway mediated by miR-126 in balloon-injured carotid artery of rats.

A 990 bp full-length gene (xynAHJ2) encoding a 329- residue polypeptide (XynAHJ2) with a calculated mass of 38.4 kDa was cloned from Bacillus sp. HJ2 harbored in a saline soil. XynAHJ2 showed no signal peptide, distinct amino acid stretches of glycoside hydrolase (GH) family 10 intracellular endoxylanases, and the highest amino acid sequence identity of 65.3% with the identified GH 10 intracellular mesophilic endoxylanase iM-KRICT PX1-Ps from Paenibacillus sp. HPL-001 (ACJ06666). The recombinant enzyme (rXynAHJ2) was expressed in Escherichia coli and displayed the typical characteristics of low-temperatureactive enzyme (exhibiting optimum activity at 35 o C, 62% at 20 o C, and 38% at 10 o C; thermolability at ≥45 o C). Compared with the reported GH 10 low-temperature-active endoxylanases, which are all extracellular, rXynAHJ2 showed low amino acid sequence identities (<45%), low homology (different phylogenetic cluster), and difference of structure (decreased amount of total accessible surface area and exposed nonpolar accessible surface area). Compared with the reported GH 10 intracellular endoxylanases, which are all mesophilic and thermophilic, rXynAHJ2 has decreased numbers of arginine residues and salt bridges, and showed resistance to Ni 2+ , Ca 2+ , or EDTA at 10 mM final concentration. The above mechanism of structural adaptation for low-temperature activity of intracellular endoxylanase rXynAHJ2 is different from that of GH 10 extracellular low-temperature-active endoxylanases. This is the first report of the molecular and biochemical characterizations of a novel intracellular low-temperatureactive xylanase.

cess of the high-order structures in biomaterials. Real-time Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and optical microscopy demon-strated that helical segments formed along with the spherulite growth. Atomic force microscopy revealed the details of growth, twisting and branching of lamellar crystals. Cooperative packing of these twisting lamellae led to regular banded spherulites observedunder polarized light microscopy. Real-time observation on the crystallization process provided richer information than the characterization of the final structures; consequently, it provides deeper insight into the organization mechanism of the hierarchical structures.

<P>Multifunctional Au0.5Fe0.5 alloy nanoparticles from a polyol process were investigated, showing the alloy nanostructures with the formation of a new phase and twin microstructures. Giant diamagnetism, on the order of -10- 2 emu g-1 Oe-1 , is observed in the zero-field cooled process of the nanoparticles, which is modeled in terms of the spin-orbital interactions tuned by the modified potential energy as a result of the shrinking dimension, peculiar disordered microstructure, and heterogeneous elemental composition.</P>
A fast IMDCT algorithm for MPEG-2 AAC decoder
Hua-Jun Chi,Tae-Hoon Kim,Koon-shik Cho,Ju-Sung Park 대한전자공학회 2007 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2007 No.7
This paper proposes a new IFFT(Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) algorithm, which is proper for IMDCT((Inverse Modified Discrete Cosine Transform) of MPEG-2 AAC(Advanced Audio Coding) decoder. The IFFT used in 2N-point IMDCT employ the bit-reverse data arrangement of inputs and N/4-IFFT to reduce the calculation cycles. We devised a new data arrangement algorithm of IFFT input and N/4ⁿ?¹-IFFT and can reduce multiplication cycles, addition cycles, and ROM size.
THE U.S. TRADE DEFICIT WITH CHINA: CAUSES AND PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
Jun hua Jia,Suk Kim People&Global Business Association 2008 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.13 No.2
The U.S.-China trade relationship has undergone tremendous growth since 1979 when the United Stares and China establish their diplomatic relationship. The trade volumes have increased dramatically after China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. Recently, the trade relationship between the two countries has experienced some setbacks-specifically in terms of the huge U.S. trade deficits with China. the currency manipulation by the Chinese government. and China's failure in enforcing strict laws to protect intellectual property rights (IPR) of U.S. companies. Effective solutions to address such trade frictions may involve consideration of trade policies. negotiation. and cooperation between the two countries. This article first provides an overview the current trade status and frictions between U.S. and China. Next, the possible root causes of such tensions are explored Finally. possible solutions are presented to alleviate such tensions and to allow both countries benefit from a mutually harmonious trade relationship.

Background: Sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping has been recommended as an alternative staging approach to lymphadenectomy for apparent uterine-confined endometrial cancer (EC). However, the prognostic value of SLN mapping alone instead of systematic lymphadenectomy on EC patients remains unclear. Methods: A multi-center, open label, non-inferiority randomized controlled trial has been designed to identify if SLN mapping alone is not inferior to pelvic lymphadenectomy on prognosis of patients with intermediate-high-risk EC clinically confined to uterus. Eligible patients will be 1:1 randomly assigned to accept SLN mapping or pelvic lymphadenectomy. The primary endpoint is the 2-year progression-free survival (PFS). The second points are the 5-year PFS, 5-year overall survival, surgery-related adverse events and life quality. A total of 780 patients will be enrolled from 6 hospitals in China within 3-year period and followed up for 5 years. Trial Registration: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT04276532
