BrDSS: A decision support system for bridge maintenance planning employing bridge information modeling

Mohammad Hosein Nili,Banafsheh Zahraie,Hosein Taghaddos 국제구조공학회 2020 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.26 No.4

Effective bridge maintenance reduces bridge operation costs and extends its service life. The possibility of storing bridge life-cycle data in a 3D parametric model of the bridge through Bridge Information Modeling (BrIM) provides new opportunities to enhance current practices of bridge maintenance management. This study develops a Decision Support System (DSS), namely BrDSS, which employs BrIM and an efficient optimization model for bridge maintenance planning. The BrIM model in BrDSS extracts basic data of elements required for the optimization process and visualizes the inspection data and the optimization results to the user to help in decision makings. In the optimization module of the DSS, the specifically formulated Genetic Algorithm (GA) eliminates the chances of producing infeasible solutions for faster convergence. The practicality of the presented DSS was explored by utilizing the DSS in the maintenance planning of a bridge under operation in the southwest of Iran.

        GENERALIZED QUASI-PRIMARY RINGS

Hosein Fazaeli Moghimi,MAHDI SAMIEI 장전수학회 2018 Advanced Studies in Contemporary Mathematics Vol.28 No.4

In this paper, the structure of commutative rings with identity all of whose ideals are quasi-primary, called generalized quasi-primary rings, is studied and several equivalent conditions to such rings are considered. Equivalently, a generalized quasi-primary ring may be viewed as a ring whose the set of radical ideals forms a chain. It is proved that an Artinian local ring R is a generalized quasi-primary ring and the converse is true if R is a non-domain Noetherian ring.

Optimum design of shape and size of truss structures via a new approximation method

Hosein Ahmadvand,AliReza Habibi 국제구조공학회 2020 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.76 No.6

The optimum design of truss structures is one of the significant categories in structural optimization that has widely been applied by researchers. In the present study, new mathematical programming called Consistent Approximation (CONAP) method is utilized for the simultaneous optimization of the size and shape of truss structures. The CONAP algorithm has already been introduced to optimize some structures and functions. In the CONAP algorithm, some important parameters are designed by employing design sensitivities to enhance the capability of the method and its consistency in various optimum design problems, especially structural optimization. The cross-sectional area of the bar elements and the nodal coordinates of the truss are assumed to be the size and shape design variables, respectively. The displacement, allowable stress and the Euler buckling stress are taken as the design constraints for the problem. In the proposed method, the primary optimization problem is replaced with a sequence of explicit sub-problems. Each sub-problem is efficiently solved using the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) algorithm. Several truss structures are designed by employing the CONAP method to illustrate the efficiency of the algorithm for simultaneous shape and size optimization. The optimal solutions are compared with some of the mathematical programming algorithms, the approximation methods and metaheuristic algorithms those reported in the literature. Results demonstrate that the accuracy of the optimization is improved and the convergence rate speeds up.

On $n$-absorbing ideals and the $n$-Krull dimension of a commutative ring

Hosein Fazaeli Moghimi,Sadegh Rahimi Naghani 대한수학회 2016 대한수학회지 Vol.53 No.6

Let $R$ be a commutative ring with $1\neq 0$ and $n$ a positive integer. In this article, we introduce the $n$-Krull dimension of $R$, denoted $\dim_n R$, which is the supremum of the lengths of chains of $n$-absorbing ideals of $R$. We study the $n$-Krull dimension in several classes of commutative rings. For example, the $n$-Krull dimension of an Artinian ring is finite for every positive integer $n$. In particular, if $R$ is an Artinian ring with $k$ maximal ideals and $l(R)$ is the length of a composition series for $R$, then $\dim_n R = l(R) -k $ for some positive integer $n$. It is proved that a Noetherian domain $R$ is a Dedekind domain if and only if $\dim_nR=n$ for every positive integer $n$ if and only if $\dim_2R=2$. It is shown that Krull's (Generalized) Principal Ideal Theorem does not hold in general when prime ideals are replaced by $n$-absorbing ideals for some $n>1$.

Explicit solution to the large deformation of a cantilever beam under point load at the free tip using the variational iteration method-II

Hosein Ghaffarzadeh,Ali Nikkar 대한기계학회 2013 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.27 No.11

This study focuses on a new analytical method called the variational iteration method-II (VIM-II) for the differential equation of the large deformation of a cantilever beam under point load at the free tip. The rotation angles as well as the horizontal and vertical displacements of a cantilever beam with large deformation are calculated in an explicit analytical form. A comparison of the results with those of some numerical and analytical methods shows the simplicity and effectiveness of VIM-II. VIM-II is proven to be a powerful technique that can be used to obtain accurate solutions that cannot be provided otherwise by perturbation and other methods. The accuracy and convergence of the method are also investigated and compared with those of other methods. The results showed good agreement between VIM-II and other methods.

Error Estimation of Nonlinear Equivalent Static Analysis for 3D-BRB Frames

Hosein Sangtarash,Mohammad-Reza Banan,Mahmoud-Reza Banan 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.5

Capacity Spectrum Method (CSM) as a nonlinear equivalent static method is one of the practical procedures which is usually usedto estimate the seismic demands for design and evaluation of structural systems. This paper proposes a nonlinear equivalent staticmethod called MPA-MCSM which combines the Modified Capacity Spectrum Method, MCSM, and the Modal Pushover Analysis,MPA. The accuracy of the developed algorithm is investigated for response prediction of Buckling Restrained Brace (BRB) frameswith irregularities in elevation. The accuracy assessment of the proposed method is evaluated based on the computation of fourseismic demands; peak roof displacement, story drift, base shear and story shear for each considered structure. The accuracy of MPAMCSMresponses is checked against the results obtained from nonlinear time-history analysis. Thirty different models consist of 3-,9- and 20-story structures subjected to 7 pairs of ground motions were analyzed. The results reveal that MPA-MCSM providesconservative seismic demands and has a good accuracy for BRB frames.

The effect of small scale and intermolecular forces on the pull-in instability and free vibration of functionally graded nano-switches

Hosein Ataei,Yaghoub Tadi Beni,Milad Shojaeian 대한기계학회 2016 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.30 No.4

Pull-in instability and free vibration of cantilever and clamped-clamped beam-type nanoactuators, which are made of Functionally graded materials (FGMs), are investigated using the Modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) under the influence of electrostatic and intermolecular forces. It is assumed that the functionally graded nano-beam made of nickel and silicon nitride and mechanical properties of the nano-beam vary continuously and smoothly in the thickness direction by a simple power-law distribution. Differential quadrature method (DQM), Differential transformation method_Pade approximant (DTM_Pade) and Lumped parameter model (LPM) are used to solve the nonlinear governing equation of the nano-beam, and the obtained results from these methods are compared together. In the end, the effects of size, variation of the length scale parameter, and the volume fraction are discussed and examined. The results show that there are a good agreement between the MSGT and the experimental results, so it can be conclude that the size effect has a substantial impact on the pull-in instability and free vibration results of the beam-type micro/nanoactuator.

Micropropagation from Stem Segments of Salt Tolerant Jojoba Seedlings

Hosein Meyghani,Reza Fotouhi Ghazvini,Yousof Hamidoghli 한국원예학회 2005 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.46 No.3

In order to produce shoots from nodal segments of salt tolerant jojoba seedlings, the established explants on MS basal medium containing benzyladenine (BA) and naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), were transferred to 1/2 MS medium supplemented with BA and NAA, kinetin and NAA, and BA, kinetin, and NAA at different concentrations. The number of shoots produced on the medium with 2 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ BA and 0.1 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ NAA (5.0 shoots per explant in average) was higher than the other treatments. Rooting of in vitro shoots was carried out on MS basal medium containing indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and NAA at different concentrations. The highest rate of rooting occurred when either shoots were first treated with 120 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ IBA solution for 24 h followed by transferring into the MS medium without plant growth regulators or cultured on MS medium supplemented with 4 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ IBA and 2 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ NAA. More roots were produced on MS medium containing both IBA and NAA than when they were used alone. The mixtures of peat and perlite at a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 (v/v) were selected as the most suitable media for transplanting or adaptation of jojoba plantlets.
