        Do the conditions in Chinese secondary school education imply a need for global citizenship education? An exploration of six secondary schools in Jiangsu

        Global citizenship education (GCE), an educational advocacy for students to attain the competencies of being aware of and actively engaged in defending social justice, equity and sustainable development at both local and global levels, is difficult to achieve in practice. The failure can be attributed to inadequate knowledge of different effects of GCE when it is used to meet specific needs of local schools. Identifying local schools’ needs for GCE may help educators put GCE to good use. However, few studies explore and justify the role of a local insight in assisting in GCE implementation, especially regarding the situation in China where inconsistencies are found across curriculum documents, research and educational practices. The present study fills the gap by investigating the schools’ needs for GCE at secondary level within the Chinese education system. With the assistance of principals (n = 6) and teachers (n = 10) from six participating schools in an anonymous city in Jiangsu province, data were collected through semi-structured interviews and then analysed abductively using the grounded theory approach. Analysis was initially framed by employing criteria from a curriculum development method, namely situational analysis, based on which further analysis was conducted to synthesise more abstract themes. As a result, four general conditions emerged from the data, including three restrictive conditions that may prevent GCE integration (i.e. ‘compliance and commitment’, ‘social mobility’ and ‘administrative constraints’) and one condition that can encourage GCE implementation (i.e. ‘competency-based education’). Since GCE is a complex idea linked to many possible applications, the four key conditions revealed from the small sample in the present study can enrich researchers’ understanding of the potentiality of GCE implementation in similar moderately developed cities on the east coast of China.

        A new strategy for tripling

        Level permutations of factors can improve space-filling properties of designs, and the properties of the three-level Triple designs constructed by tripling method are related to original designs. In this paper, a new strategy for tripling is provided for constructing three-level uniform designs. By considering all possible level permutations of factors, the relationship is built between the average squared centered L 2 -discrepancy value of the Triple design and the wordlength pattern of the original design, which provides a theoretical basis for selecting a uniform design from an original design with minimum aberration by the level permutations. Moreover, the projection uniformity of the Triple design and its original design is considered, and the relationship of the uniformity pattern between the Triple design and its original design is built. Finally, some numerical results are used to support our theoretical results.

        A Conductive Copolymer Based on Graphene Oxide and Poly (amidoxime-pyrrole) for Adsorption of Uranium (VI)

        A novel conducting copolymer based on amidoxime groups, polypyrrole and graphene oxide was synthesized by in situ copolymerization by usin g two monomers. The monomer, amidoxime-pyrrole, was synthesized by amidoximation of 1-(2-cyanoethyl) pyrrole. The other monomer, GO-pyrrole, was prepared via esterification between –COOH of GO and –NH2 of 1-(3-aminopropyl) pyrrole. The conductive ability of the copolymer was based on conductive π-conjugated system of polypyrrole backbone. The copolymer was able to be used as an effective sorption material for the preconcentration and recovery of uranium. The maximum of adsorption capacity for uranyl ion is as high as 149.57 mg/g.

        An Optimization Method for the Calculation of SCADA Main Grid's Theoretical Line Loss Based on DBSCAN

        In recent years, the problem of data drifted of the smart grid due to manual operation has been widely studiedby researchers in the related domain areas. It has become an important research topic to effectively and reliablyfind the reasonable data needed in the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system has becomean important research topic. This paper analyzes the data composition of the smart grid, and explains the powermodel in two smart grid applications, followed by an analysis on the application of each parameter in densitybasedspatial clustering of applications with noise (DBSCAN) algorithm. Then a comparison is carried out forthe processing effects of the boxplot method, probability weight analysis method and DBSCAN clusteringalgorithm on the big data driven power grid. According to the comparison results, the performance of theDBSCAN algorithm outperforming other methods in processing effect. The experimental verification showsthat the DBSCAN clustering algorithm can effectively screen the power grid data, thereby significantlyimproving the accuracy and reliability of the calculation result of the main grid’s theoretical line loss.

        Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system-based therapies for early- stage endometrial cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis

        Objective: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies evaluating the oncological and fertility outcomes of early-stage endometrial cancer (EC) treated with the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LIUS)-based regimens. Methods: The Meta-analyses Of Observational Studies in Epidemiology statement for meta-analyses was followed. Searches were conducted on MEDLINE, Embase, PubMed, Preprints, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from January 1990 to August 4, 2022. The Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist was used for quality assessment. The primary endpoint was the complete response (CR) rate and the secondary endpoints were relapse, pregnancy, and live birth rate. Results: A total of 25 studies (821 women) were included. The CR rate of LIUS-based regimens was 63.4% (95% confidence interval [CI]=52.3%–73.2%), with 29.6% (95% CI=23.3%–36.8%) of cases experiencing recurrence during follow-up. In sensitivity analyses, patients younger than 45 years of age with a body mass index <30 kg/m2 who were treated with LIUS-based regimens achieved a high CR rate of 84.6% (95% CI=80.3%–88.1%) over a median follow-up of more than 24 months. Overall pregnancy and live birth rates were 37.9% (95% CI=24.1%–53.9%) and 39.3% (95% CI=24.0%–57.0%), respectively. No statistical differences were apparent in CR or relapse rates among the LIUS+GnRH agonist, LIUS+oral progesterone, or hysteroscopic resection followed by LIUS subgroups. Conclusion: LIUS-based therapies are viable for the conservative management of early-stage endometrioid EC on CR and fertility outcome.

        Interference Cancellation for Relay-Assisted D2D Communication

        Relay-assisted D2D communication extends the communication range of the D2D pairs and helps users to form D2D pairs effectively. However, due to the introduction of the multi-hop relaying, the D2D communication has to occupy extra transmission time, which may decrease the efficiency of the communication system. In this paper, we propose a scheme to make node receive D2D signal and BS signal at overlapping time to improve the spectrum efficiency according to ZigZag decoding and successive-interference-cancellation (SIC). In this way, more data can be delivered during the same duration, thus the network throughput can be further improved. Numerical results verify the performance improvement of the proposed scheme when compared with a baseline scheme. Moreover, we expand the proposed scheme from one-hop relay scenario to multi-hop relay scenario.

        Adaptive Neural Network Model-based Event-triggered Attitude Tracking Control for Spacecraft

        This article investigates the problem of attitude tracking control for spacecraft with limited communication, unknown system parameters, and external disturbances. An adaptive control scheme with an event-triggeredmechanism (ETM) is proposed to alleviate the communication burden. Radial Basis Function Neural Network(RBFNN) estimation model is developed to provide the input signals for the control module in this control scheme. Estimated attitude information of the spacecraft generated from the estimation model will only be transmitted tothe control module at the instants when the ETM is violated. The neural network (NN) and the estimation modelwill be updated complying with an adaptive algorithm at the discrete triggering instants. It’s substantiated that allthe errors of attitude tracking converge towards corresponding residuals and there are no accumulated triggeringinstants. Numerical simulation also demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

        Hydrophobic Waterborne Epoxy Coating Modified by Low Concentrations of Fluorinated Reactive Modifier

        Fluorinated (meth) acrylate oligomer modified epoxy resin (PHFBMA-DGEBA) and polyether-modified epoxy resin (MPEG-DGEBA) were successfully synthesized and used as reactive modifier and emulsifier for epoxy resins, respectively. GPC, FTIR and 1H NMR were employed to verify the synthesis. The influence of both the concentration and the molecular weight of PHFBMA-DGEBA on the properties of waterborne epoxy resin coatings was investigated. Surface energy and surface composition were probed by contact angle measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), which strongly confirmed the enrichment of fluorinate atoms on the surface. The surface energy of waterborne epoxy coating was decreased from 44.46 mN/m to 23.20 mN/m by adding just 0.09 wt% PHFBMADGEBA- 2, indicating its high effectiveness in improving the surface hydrophobicity. Moreover, the physical properties of waterborne epoxy coatings prepared with different concentration and molecular weight of fluorinated reactive modifier, such as water absorption, Shore D hardness, adhesion, thermal properties and optical transmittance, were also analyzed in detail. Taken together, the waterborne epoxy coatings prepared with low concentrations of reactive modifier are economical and have great potential in large scale industry applications.

        Detecting the Oxidation of Zircaloy Claddings by Infrared Interference

        As the expected life of dry cask storage installations increases, it becomes increasingly desirable to monitor the state and performance of the cask internals to ensure that they continue to safely contain the radioactive materials in the fuel. One aspect of this task is the monitoring of oxidation of the cladding. With this consideration in mind, Zircaloy-4 (Zr-4) cladding samples were exposed to air at 500℃ for various duration times to create thin corrosion oxide layers on the surface. The surfaces of the oxidized samples were then systematically scanned by Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy to achieve the infrared (IR) interference spectra and study the relationship between the optical interference and the various thicknesses of the oxide layers. The profiles of the oxide layers were verified througth cross-sectional examination by Scanning Electron Microscopy. The IR interference patterns varied with oxide layer thickness, enabling the determination of oxide layer thickness of values, including half micron thick. Further analysis demonstrated that the interference oscillation period and the oscillation amplitude decreased with increasing oxide layer thickness. Combined with a physical model that describes the optical interference, the interference spectra were directly correlated to the oxide layer thickness quantitatively. The study provides the basis for an accurate, nondestructive and sensitive method to monitor the degree of zirconium-based cladding corrosion due to oxidation.
