A modular approach was applied for the synthesis of bienzyme-polymer nanoconjugates (nano-BECs) (50- 70 nm) consisting of two enzymes (carbonyl reductase and glucose dehydrogenase) conjugated within a single universal polymer scaffold. The amount of the product ethyl (R)-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyrate (R-HPBE) with nano-BECs as the catalyst was 533mM in a dibutyl phthalate-phosphate buffer (dibutyl phthalate-PB) biphasic system, while the amount of R-HPBE was 349mM using carbonyl reductase-poly(acrylic acid) as the catalyst, indicating that the nano- BECs have an advantage for coenzyme regeneration. Compared with a single aqueous phase, the substrate treatment capacity was improved at the interface of the dibutyl phthalate-PB biphasic system. Under the optimal reaction conditions (35 oC, 40 h, dibutyl phthalate-PB 1 : 1), nano-BECs can completely convert substrate into optically pure R-HPBE (enantiomeric excess (e.e.) >99.9%) in the organic-aqueous system.

There are only a few methods for controlling high-order nonlinear systems, except for standard backsteppingtechnique. Due to the fact that I&I theory proposed by Astolfi and Ortega is able to accomplish thesystem immersion by selecting a lower-order target system and a vital mapping, a bottom-up recursive procedurefor designing tracking control laws for a class of n-dimensional strict-feedback nonlinear systems is focused inour work. The required mappings are transformed into virtual control inputs, and system order reduction is realizedas design step is implemented repetitively. A first-order filter is employed at each step to compute analyticderivatives of mappings. The benefit of our proposed algorithm can not only improve the computation efficiencyto simplify all controls’ forms, but also suppress the high-frequency noise. While the off-the-manifold coordinateis rendered insensitive to the time-varying and bounded but unknown disturbance, the robust stability can be ultimatelyguaranteed. A quadrotor helicopter is used to show designing procedures and controller performance viavarious simulations.

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were functionalized on their sidewalls with p-nitrophenyl (C_6H_4NO_2) to make MWCNTs compatible with liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) through a specific interaction with LCP. This study examined the rheological, morphological, mechanical, dynamic mechanical, and thermal properties of LCP in detail with a variation of the nitrophenyl-functionalized MWCNTs in the LCP matrix. A higher complex viscosity, storage, and loss modulus were observed in the nitrophenyl-functionalized MWCNTs/LCP composites than the composites with the same loading of raw MWCNTs. The nitrophenyl groups attached to the MWCNTs improved their dispersion and interfacial adhesion with the LCP matrix, which was confirmed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). As a result, the incorporation of the nitrophenyl-functionalized MWCNTs effectively enhanced the mechanical and thermal stability of the LCP.

Temperate steppe is one of the most important natural habitats for the conservation of arthropod and birdbiodiversity across the Eurasian Tectonic Plate. Since 1950, fragmentation of the steppe habitat has caused a lossof biodiversity and degradation of the species communities found in natural steppe. Therefore, in this study, bothplants and insects were sampled at 56 sites in the steppe biome of northwestern China to explore the effects ofplant community on insect community composition and diversity. The insect community structure varied in thefour different steppe types (meadow steppe, typical steppe, desert steppe, and steppe desert). Plant cover (diversity)was an important driving force, which could enhance number of families and abundance of an insectcommunity. Aboveground net primary productivity and water content of plants had no significant effects oninsect community, although the plant community as a whole did mediate insect composition and communitystructure. Future research should explore the ecological role of particular functional groups in plant and insectcommunities. Supplemental sowing to improve plant diversity in steppe habitat may be another strategy toenhance biodiversity and achieve sustainable management.
