Voltage-dependent transmittance characteristics associated with various cell parameters have been studied in-plane switching liquid crystal display when both common and pixel electrodes are transparent. When both electrodes are opaque, the transmittance is related to only the distance (I) between electrodes. However, where transparent electrode is used, it is influenced not only the 1but also an electrode width (w) and rubbing angle. In addition, these factors are related to operating voltage which shows maximal transmittance. To maximize the light efficiency of the cell and obtain low operating voltage, the above-mentioned cell parameters need to be optimized.
Test Results of Refrigerant R152a in a Mobile Air-Conditioning System
Jeong-Sub Shin,Won-Gu Park,Man-Hoe Kim 대한설비공학회 2008 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.16 No.2
This study presents test results of a mobile air-conditioning system using a potential alternative refrigerant, R152a. A series of performance tests have been carried out and cycle characteristics such as cooling capacity, energy efficiency ratio, suction and discharge pressures, and temperatures are presented, compared to those for the baseline R134a system. Tests were conducted with evaporation temperature of 5℃, condensation temperature of 45℃, subcooling temperature of 5℃, superheating temperature of 5℃, and compressor speed of 500-1500 rpm. The performance of R152a system with readjustment of an expansion valve showed better than those of R134a. The effect of oil on the pressure drop in the evaporator was also addressed.

Vinca alkaloids from plant Vinca minor have been investigated for their effects of tyrosinase inhibition, stimulation of ROS generation and increasement of cell migration activity. The methanolic crude extract and the water-soluble fraction exhibited IC50 value of 3.1 mg/mL and 2.1 mg/mL. Vinca minor extract treatment significantly increased ROS levels in HaCaT cells, in a concentration-dependent manner. Treatments of Vinca minor extract led to increase wound closure when compared with non-treatment. Low dose (0.1% or 0.3%) of extracts have not significantly affected, compared with that in controls. By contrast, 0.5% extract have dramatic effect on wound healing activity of keratinocytes. Effects of Vinca minor extract in a filter-based cell mobility assay appear similar to that of wound closure assay, which suggests that the Vinca minor extract have wound healing effects on skin.

Objective : The functional information of $^{11}C$-methionine positron emission tomography (MET-PET) images can be applied for Gamma knife radiosurgery (GKR) and its image quality may affect defining the tumor. This study conducted the phantom-based evaluation for geometric accuracy and functional characteristic of diagnostic MET-PET image co-registered with stereotactic image in Leksell $GammaPlan^{(R)}$ (LGP) and also investigated clinical application of these images in metastatic brain tumors. Methods : Two types of cylindrical acrylic phantoms fabricated in-house were used for this study : the phantom with an array-shaped axial rod insert and the phantom with different sized tube indicators. The phantoms were mounted on the stereotactic frame and scanned using computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and PET system. Three-dimensional coordinate values on co-registered MET-PET images were compared with those on stereotactic CT image in LGP. MET uptake values of different sized indicators inside phantom were evaluated. We also evaluated the CT and MRI co-registered stereotactic MET-PET images with MR-enhancing volume and PET-metabolic tumor volume (MTV) in 14 metastatic brain tumors. Results : Imaging distortion of MET-PET was maintained stable at less than approximately 3% on mean value. There was no statistical difference in the geometric accuracy according to co-registered reference stereotactic images. In functional characteristic study for MET-PET image, the indicator on the lateral side of the phantom exhibited higher uptake than that on the medial side. This effect decreased as the size of the object increased. In 14 metastatic tumors, the median matching percentage between MR-enhancing volume and PET-MTV was 36.8% on PET/MR fusion images and 39.9% on PET/CT fusion images. Conclusion : The geometric accuracy of the diagnostic MET-PET co-registered with stereotactic MR in LGP is acceptable on phantom-based study. However, the MET-PET images could the limitations in providing exact stereotactic information in clinical study.

This paper studies the location design of defibrillators in a residential college. By incorporating survival rate functions into covering models, we develop the mathematical models to install the defibrillators. The survival functions are monotonically decreasing function of the response time to a patient and they return the probability of survival for the patient in a case of cardiac arrests. We propose two mathematical models to locate the defibrillators. One is to calculate the minimum number of defibrillators to guarantee a certain value of survival probability of the patient. Another model is to maximize the value of survival probability of patient. We apply our models to the residential college based on the insurance data to propose the installation of the defibrillators. Even integer programming model 1 provides different number of defibrillators to ensure same level of patients survival rate depending on three survival rate functions, it provides same locations if number of defibrillators is fixed. Integer programming model 2 generates the optimal location of defibrillators to maximize the survival probability of patients. Based on various experiments and sensitivity analysis, we suggests that 4 defibrillators are appropriate for our target area to ensure the survival probability of 50%.
뇌허혈후 재관류 손상에서의 Hydroxyl Radical의 생성에 관한 실험적 연구
김근회,전현길,박윤관,정흥섭,이기찬,주정화,이훈갑 대한신경외과학회 1995 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.24 No.10
The time course of hydroxyl radid generation in the brain and the intensity of brain hydroxyl radical(OH ̄) generation were examined in rat during the first four hours after postischemia reperfusion. Hydroxyl radical production was measured using the salicylate trapping method in which the production of 2, 3-dihydroxybenzoic acid(DHBA) in hippocampus(CA₁) 15 minutes after salicylate administration was used as an index of OH ̄ formation. The interstitial concentration changes of salicylate and 2, 3-DHBA were detected by intracerebral microdialysis following the intraperitoneal administration of salicylate(150mg/kg) using high pressure liquid chromatography-electrochemical(HPLC -EC) and -ultraviolet(-UV). Adult Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to 20 minutes of bilteral carotid artery occlusion(BCAO) in either normotensive or hypotensive state. Serial changes of cerebral blood flow(CBF) were monitored by H₂ clearance method. CBF of normotensive BCAO group(n = 6) was found to be decreased only to 52% of baseline value, and OH ̄production after reperfusion did not develop in this group. Rats in the BCAO hypotensive group(n = 10) showed remarkable reduction of CBF to 27% of baseline(p<0.05) and 2~4 folds increase of 2, 3-DHBA/salicylate during the first 40 minutes of recirculation. Hydroxyl radical production in rats died(n = 5) after the insult was significantly higher and lasted longer than that in rats survived(n = 5)(p < 0.05). Concentration of salicylate inperfusate increased during 100 minutes after the peritoneal injection and before reaching to a plateau, which lasted for 3 hours. The changes of cerebral tissue concentration of 2, 3-DHBA differed from those of salicylate. In 2, 3-DHBA, the plateau was reached rather slowly than that of salicylate and lasted for 2 hours. These data indicate that global celebral ischemia could be induced by temporary BCAO only if the systemic hypotenion is accompanied, it can not be induced in normotensive group. The hydroxyl radical produced brain damage is prone to develop early in the reperfusion period and is correlated with the severity of ischemic insult.
