Safety of tumor necrosis factor inhibitor use in patients with concomitant malignancy
( Hiep Phan ),( Rick A. Weideman ),( Daisha J. Cipher ),( Linda A. Feagins ) 대한장연구학회 2020 Intestinal Research Vol.18 No.3
Background/Aims: Safety for tumor necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi) in cancer has been focused on risk of incident malignancies, but studies on prognostic effects have been scarce. We determined survival and recurrence rates at 1, 2, and 5 years after cancer diagnosis in patients with and without concurrent TNFi use. Methods: Chart reviews were performed between 1996 and 2015 at the VA North Texas Healthcare System. Cases were patients with inflammatory disease, concomitant malignancy, and TNFi use while controls were patients with inflammatory disease, concomitant malignancy but no TNFi use. Cases and controls were matched for type of malignancy. Analysis was performed with log-rank tests on Kaplan-Meier curves. Results: Thirty-six cases and 72 controls were identified. For cases, survival at 1, 2, and 5 years were 32 (89%), 31 (86%), and 29 (81%) compared to 63 (90%), 61 (87%), and 51 (73%) for the control group (P=0.985). For cases, recurrence rates at 1, 2, and 5 years were 3 (8%), 5 (14%), and 6 (17%) compared to 2 (3%), 5 (7%), and 7 (10%) for the control group (P=0.158). Conclusions: Our findings suggest TNFi may be safely used in select inflammatory disease patients with concurrent cancer if therapy is needed for proper disease control. However, case-by-case consideration in conjunction with an oncologist is recommended while considering the apparent safety of TNFi for patients suffering from active inflammatory diseases despite having a concomitant malignancy. Information Sharing in Logistics Firms: An Exploratory Study of the Vietnamese Logistics Sector
Hiep Cong PHAM,Thanh Thuy NGUYEN,Scott McDonald,Nhu Quynh TRAN-KIEU 한국해운물류학회 2019 The Asian journal of shipping and Logistics Vol.35 No.2
Information sharing among partners in a supply chain is commonly considered as a key factor to enhance supply chain performance. Most studies on logistics information sharing focused on mature markets, whereas developing countries such as Vietnam are lacking in the understanding of sharing practices. As the Vietnamese logistics sector plays a significant role in the national economy, given its market size and cost factor, this study examined what information logistics firms shared with their supply chain partners, sharing methods and influencing factors of the sharing practice. The findings indicate that most of the interviewed logistics firms mainly shared operational information (e.g. ordering information) through traditional communication channels such as emails and telephones and were lacking strategic information sharing or an integrated communication system with supply chain partners. The main factors influencing sharing practices include technical capability, security risks, organization rules and policies, and mutual trust, to name a few.

Rice plays an important role in the lives of the people of Vietnam and numerous Asian countries. It contributes not only a major food source, but also export value. Brown plant hoppers (BPHs) are one of the sources of harm in the production of rice and make it weaker and poorly developed. In this study, we present a method to transfer a data simulation from GAMA to DIGIPLANT. We simulated the development of rice plants in a case where they were attacked by BPH in DIGIPLANT software. The scope of this work is to study BPH transmitting yellow dwarf disease to the rice plants. The study has applied methods of modeling like agent-based modeling to the growth and propagation of BPH under the impact of various environments in GAMA. An agriculturist can use the output value from simulating and modeling the growth and propagation of a BPH to provide the levels of influence on the height of rice with yellow dwarf disease infection.
A sequential cooperative spectrum sensing scheme based on cognitive user reputation
Hiep Vu-Van,Insoo Koo IEEE 2012 IEEE transactions on consumer electronics Vol.58 No.4
<P>The spectrum sensing plays an essential role in Cognitive Radio (CR), which enables opportunistic access to underutilized licensed spectrums. Cooperative spectrum sensing can help improve sensing performance. However, when the number of cognitive users is large, the latency and network traffic for reporting sensing results to the Fusion Center (FC) become extremely large, which may result in an extended sensing time and collision in the control channel between Cognitive Users (CUs) and the FC. In this paper, we propose an extended Sequential Cooperative Spectrum Sensing (SCSS) scheme in which the reputation of individual CU is used to ensure that the FC efficiently collects local sensing data from CUs. The proposed scheme reduces the number of sensing reports required while improving sensing performance in comparison with the conventional SCSS scheme even when few malicious users exist in the network.</P>

Their structures were determined by spectroscopic and chemical methods including electronic circular dichroism. All isolated compounds were evaluated for their neuroprotective effects against 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA)-induced cell death in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells, of these six compounds exhibited activities with EC50 values of 4.5–18.6 <I>μ</I>M. Furthermore, the neuroprotective effects against oxygen glucose deprivation (OGD)-induced cell death of all isolated constituents, together with 37 previously reported isoflavones were evaluated. Four compounds showed neuroprotective activities with EC50 values of 3.5–11.9 <I>μ</I>M.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Science beyond English: to what extent do Vietnamese scholars publish in non-English languages?
Hiep-Hung Pham,Van Luong Nguyen,Dinh-Hai Luong 한국과학학술지편집인협의회 2022 Science Editing Vol.9 No.2
Purpose: Although English has become the lingua franca for scholarly communication, scholars worldwide publish in other languages. Nevertheless, few studies have answered the question, “To what extent do scholars publish in non-English languages?” This study addresses that question, limiting its scope to Vietnamese scholars. Methods: We reviewed 833 non-English documents authored by at least one scholar from Vietnam between 1960 and 2021, exploring aspects such as the language of the publication, the year of publication, the document type, number of document citations, the most prolific and most cited authors, and the primary research themes. Results: Among non-English languages, French, Russian, and Chinese were the three most often selected by Vietnamese scholars for their publications. The year 2015 was a pivotal year when non-English publications from Vietnam significantly increased. Journal articles were the most common type of document, and the most frequent subject areas were medicine, agricultural and biological sciences, engineering, energy, and environmental science. Conclusion: Although English is the primary language of science, the number of non-English documents by Vietnamese researchers has been increasing. This suggests that collaborative work between Vietnamese researchers and foreign researchers has also increased.
