The purpose of this paper is to examine the television "Hangul Course" program which was broadcast on the Japanese public broadcasting station NHK (Nippon Hoosoo Kyookai or Japan Broadcasting Corporation) from April 2005-Mar 2006. The contents to be included and how they should be presented in Korean language education programs in the future are also discussed. NHK`s "Hangul Course" began in 1984 and was updated during this period by lecturer KIM Jina and supervisor NOMA Hideki, with the intention of: (1) putting stress on learning the Korean language itself, (2) teaching Korean from a contrastive linguistic point of view, focusing on various differences in expressions, verbal conjugation systems, and in discourse structures in Korean and Japanese, (3) incorporating the fruits of studies on discourse, such as discourse markers, the politeness markers -yo/-iyo, speech level shifts, addressing and hailing, chengca panung palhwa or backchannel expressions, fillers, and turn-taking, (4) having serial "mini" dramas which are made for learning not only language but also culture, (5) and utilizing visual constituents such as animation or computer graphics. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a treatment designed to correct gut dysbiosis by administration of feces from a healthy volunteer. It is still unclear whether FMT for children with ulcerative colitis (UC) is effective or hazardous. Here we describe a young patient to have received FMT for UC. A three-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital with severe active UC, and treated with aminosalicylates and various immunosuppressive drugs. As remission was not achieved, we decided to try FMT before colectomy. We administered donor fecal material a total of six times by retention enema (×2) and via a nasoduodenal tube (×4) within 10 days. The patient developed abdominal pain and pyrexia after each FMT session. Analyses revealed the transferred donor fecal microbiota had not been retained by the patient, who ultimately underwent colectomy. The severity of the UC and/or timing of FMT may have partly accounted for the poor outcome.

Hokkaido is the northern most region of Japan and the population is now more than 5.6 million. There are five major sea ports and one major airport in Hokkaido. The ports are Tomakomai, Muroran, Hakodate, Otaru and Kushiro and the airport is the New Chitose International Airport. Although the Port of Tomakomai ranks eleventh in Japan in total weight of goods handled, it ranks first in both tonnage and monetary value in Hokkaido.<br/> Connected to the Port of Tomakomai is an extensive transportation network which in a short time connects it to the center of Hokkaido, Sapporo and tile other major cities of Asahikawa and Obihiro. Consequently Tomakomai plays an important role as a distribution center for Hokkaido. The other ports in Hokkaido, especially Muroran and Otaru, have often complained about the centralization of goods in Tomakomai, because both of these ports, until the immediate end of World WarⅡ, enjoyed first or second place status in Hokkaido.<br/> This paper will describe that the centralization of the physical distribution finction, unlike that of a capital city function, should be accepted in terms of efficiency, and the intensive handling of goods in Tomakomai contributes to the economic development, not only of Hokkaido but also of Japan in general.

This paper describes a camera-based position measurement system for automatic tracking control of a rubber Tired Gantry Crane (RTGC). An automatic tracking control of RTGC depends on the ability to measure its displacement and angle from a guide line that the RTGC has to follow. The measurement system proposed in this paper is composed of a camera and a PC that are mounted on the right upper between front and rear tires of the RTGC’s side. The measurement accuracy of the system is affected by disturbances such as cracks and stains of the guide line, shadows, and halation from the light fluctuation. To overcome the disturbances, both side edges of the guide line are detected as two straight lines from an input image taken by the camera, and parameters of the straight lines are determined by using Hough transform. The displacement and angle of the RTGC from the guide line can be obtained from these parameters with the robustness against the disturbances. From the experiments with the disturbances, we found the accurate displacement and the angle from the guide line that have the standard deviations of 0.95 pixels and 0.22 degrees, respectively.

Distance Measurement System Based on Image Sensors for Automatic Berthing of Ships

This paper describes a distance measurement system based on image sensors for automatic berthing of ships. An automatic berthing system is a solution to relieve psychological and physical strains on the operator in berthing maneuvering that is the most difficult and delicate phase. Usually, a sensor system for the automatic berthing system should accommodate ship movements such as rolling, pitching, and yawing, in order to continuously measure the relative distance from the ship to a dock in a port. For acquiring the accommodation to the ship movements, the proposed measurement system is composed of two movable image sensors, and measures the relative distance by detecting and tracking a target on the dock. Additionally, a template matching method robust to light fluctuation in outdoor environment, named the vector code correlation, is employed to the movable image sensor for the target detection. From the experimental results performed in an outdoor environment where lighting condition was varied, we confirmed that the measurement system could continuously measure the relative distance under 3.1m of absolute errors in the measuring range of 100m to 5m. Especially, high accuracy within ±1.0m was accomplished from 40m to 5m of the relative distance.
Identification of Nonlinear Parameters by Using Low-pass Filtered M-sequence

In this paper, we propose a new method for estimation of parameters of a nonlinear system by low-pass filtered M-sequence. We applied the proposed method to a nonlinear vibratory system which consists of a mass, adamper and linear and nonlinear spring. From the results of the experiment, it is shown that the proposed method is effective in representing nonlinear property of the system.
