Composite mats based on submicron biopolyester fibers, such as poly(3-hydroxyalkanoate)s, and zinc oxide(ZnO) nanoparticles have been exploited in medicine and environmental areas, as antibacterial wound dressings or filters. Generally, the resulting mats have to be subjected to UV irradiation in order to promote the formation of reactive oxygenspecies, thus activating the antimicrobial or photocatalytic effect of ZnO. Therefore, investigation related to the influence ofZnO on poly(3-hydroxyalkanoate)s photo-degradation is required. In this context, the present paper addresses the long-termphoto-degradation of nanofibrous poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB)/ZnO composites derived from two complementaryelectro-hydrodynamic techniques, namely electrospinning or electrospinning/electrospraying tandem processes. A thoroughinvestigation of the as-obtained PHB/ZnO fibrous composites implying the utilization of ATR-FTIR, SEC, and SEM analysispre- and post-aging under UV irradiation (313 nm) for a period of time of 500 h to study the effect of electro-hydrodynamictechnique utilized and the ZnO content on the UV shielding properties of PHB mats.

The Ramberg–Osgood equation was applied to model the stress–strain behavior of heat-treated and welded specimens ofInconel 600 up to 0.2 and 0.175 mm/mm of strain, respectively. As-received and aged plates of Inconel 600 were gas metalarc welded to simulate repair of a component in operation. Dog bone shape specimens were tensile tested at a cross headspeed of 0.005 s−1 and the deformation was measured with an extensometer with a gage length of 20 mm. Microstructuralobservations were made in the optical and scanning electron microscope. Fitting the experimental data in the plastic regionof stress–strain curves to a novel three slopes Ramberg–Osgood model enabled estimation of the hardening coefficient, n. The value of n varied from 0.07 to 0.3 depending on the metallurgical condition of the specimen. A notorious increase wasobserved in the value of n for samples heat-treated beyond 25 h and in as-welded samples. The results of this work showeda very good correlation between the model and the experimental curves.
Tombus 바이러스의 RNAi Suppressor p19 유전자에 의한 Chlamydomonas reinhardtii의 형질전환
정원중,유장렬,Heriberto Cerutti 한국식물생명공학회 2007 JOURNAL OF PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY Vol.34 No.4
Chlamydomonas reinhardtii was transformed with the coding sequence of the Tombus virus gene p19 to determine whether the gene functions as an RNAi suppressor in C. reinhardtii. Transformants were confirmed to have 1 to several copies of p19 gene in their chromosomes. When an RNAi strain of C. reinhardtii generated by transforming the inverted repeat (IR) sequence homologous to the 3’UTR region of the MAA7 gene was re- transformed with the gene p19, MAA7 transcript levels of transformants fluctuated and proliferation of transformants on the medium containing 5-FI was suppressed. Overall results suggest that p19-mediated silencing suppression works at a low level in C. reinhardtii because of difference in codon usage resulting in weak P19 expression unless p19-mediated silencing suppression in C. reinhardtii works in a different manner from higher plants

Generalized height-diameter at breast height (D) models are essential for the estimation of the timber stocks of a forest stand, as well as in the generation of base information to develop forest growth models, and as basic inputs in the development of forest management plans. Generalized models were developed to estimate total height (TH) based on the D and stand variables, of five Pinus species in forests under forest management of Ixtlán de Juárez, Oaxaca, Mexico. The data used come from a timber forest inventory, where n = 1041 sampling plots of 1000 m2 each were established based on a stratified-systematic sampling design. The species selected according to their relative abundance were: Pinus patula, Pinus oaxacana, Pinus ayacahuite, Pinus teocote and Pinus leiophylla. Five nonlinear equations were fitted using regression techniques to predict the TH of the trees under several silviculture regimes and forest management conditions. The statistical criteria of goodness of fit used were: adjusted coefficient of determination (R2adj), root mean square error (RMSE) and absolute average bias in the prediction (Ē). Likewise, the graphic analysis of the predictive capacity of the equations was considered. The D and the stand variables (quadratic mean diameter, dominant diameter and dominant height) for these species explained between 75 and 83% of the variability of the TH data. The predicting variables to apply the developed generalized models to estimate tree's total height require less sampling effort and are derived from conventional forest inventory data, which allows to reduce costs and time in field work.
Fractional Sliding Mode Control of Underwater ROVs subject to Non-differentiable Disturbances
Aldo-Jonathan Muñoz-Vázquez,Heriberto Ramírez-Rodríguez,Vicente Parra-Vega,Anand Sánchez-Orta 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2017 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.15 No.3
Some hydrodynamic phenomena of an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV), such as turbulence, cavitation, and multi-phase fluidic regimes, are associated to continuous but nowhere differentiable functions. These disturbances stand as complex forces potentially influencing the ROVs during typical navigation tasks. In thispaper, the tracking control of a ROV subject to nonsmooth Hölder disturbances is proposed based on a fractionalorderrobust controller that ensures exponential tracking. Notably, the controller gives rise to a closed-loop systemwith the following characteristics: a) continuous control signal that alleviates chattering effects; b) the fractionalsliding motion is substantiated on a proposed resetting memory principle; c) the control is robust to model uncertainties;and d) exact rejection of Hölder disturbances in finite-time. A representative simulation study reveals thefeasibility of the proposed scheme.

The purpose of this paper is to perform the analysis of literature review regarding the design of open architecture products (OAP) and their potential benefits within the circular economy (CE) model. The analysis involved studying more than 80 research articles during the last two decades in engineering journals. The articles were gathered through a bibliometric analysis using the most relevant keywords concerning product design, sustainability, OAP, and CE. Main trends, challenges and future scopes of research opportunities and development were identified. The study provides a framework to designers and researchers involved in the design of OAP to enhance their sustainability performance for a CE model, which integrates lifecycle considerations (reuse, remanufacturing, repair, and recycle), resource optimization, and emissions reduction. The findings include the need for design methods focused on the design of OAP to guarantee an effective circularity of resources during the whole lifecycle of products and the need of integrating manufacturing processes and material analysis to design products capable of adapting to the CE model.

The head louse Pediculus humanus capitis (De Geer) is a hematophagous ectoparasite that inhabits the human scalp. The infestations are asymptomatic; however, skin irritation from scratching occasionally may cause secondary bacterial infections. The present study determined the presence and frequency of the knockdown resistance (kdr) mutation T929I in 245 head lice collected from Mexico, Peru, and Canada. Head lice were collected manually using a comb in the private head lice control clinic. Allele mutation at T9291 was present in 100% of the total sampled populations (245 lice) examined. In addition, 4.89% of the lice were homozygous susceptible, whereas 6.93% heterozygous and 88.16% homozygous were resistant, respectively. This represents the second report in Mexico and Quebec and fist in Lima.

Maternal high-sweetener diet, such as sucrose, has been associated with an increased risk of metabolic and cognitive-related diseases in the offspring. This study was performed to determine the effect of maternal sweetener intake during gestation and lactation on learning and memory in adult female offspring rats. Twenty-eight female pups from dams fed standard diet (Control-C, n = 10), high-sucrose diet (HS-C, n = 6), and high-honey diet (Ho-C, n = 12) were fed standard diet after weaning and body weight and food intake were recorded once a week for 19 weeks. Learning and memory tests were conducted at week 14 (Y-maze) and 18 (Barnes maze). We found that birth weight of Control-C group was greater than the Ho-C (P < .001). Blood glucose levels of the HS-C group were significantly higher than the Control-C and Ho-C groups. Control-C pups recognized the novel arm of the Y-maze compared with HS-C and Ho-C groups (P < .01). Also, offspring of the HS-C group showed deficient performance in the Barnes test when compared with the Control-C and Ho-C groups (P < .05). These results suggest that dams fed a high-sucrose diet during gestation and lactation favor high-glucose levels and deficient long-term memory performance in adult female offspring rats.
