Low Bit Rate Image Source Coding with Hierachical Motion Compensation

본 논문은 미국의 CCITT(International Consultative Committee for Telephone and Telegraph)에서 권고하고 있는 H.261에 대한 운동보상형 저 비트레이트 하이브리드 영상코딩 알고리즘에 관한 것이다. 입력화상이 전처리과정에서 CIF(Common Intermediate Format)규격으로 처리되고, 다시 16X16화소의 휘도성분 블럭과 2개의 8X8화소의 칼라성분 블럭으로 나뉘어져서 각각 DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform)와 양자화 된다. 시뮬레이션에서 저 비트레이트에서 코딩된 이전프레임의 화상과 현프레임 화상간의 양호한 SNR을 얻을 수 있었으며, 원화상과 1비트레이트에서 처리된 복원된 화상을 직접 비교하였다. This paper describes a low bit rate hybrid image coding algorithm with motion compensated interframe coding for H.261, CCITT recommendation. The basic idea of this algorithm is combined the discrete cosine transform(DCT) and interframe predicted coding with motion compensation(MC). In this scheme, the image is sub-divided into 16X16 pixel luminance blocks, and two 8X8 chrominance blocks, then they are transformed and quantized using DCT and quantizer respectively. Some good results are demonstrated in terms of SNRs according to each low bit rate and direct comparision of original and reconstructed images.

A continuous linear operator T, on the space of en-tire functions in d variables, is PDE-preserving for a given set P µ C[»1; :::; »d] of polynomials if it maps every kernel-set ker P(D), P 2 P, invariantly. It is clear that the set O(P) of PDE-preserving operators for P forms an algebra under composition. We study and link properties and structures on the operator side O(P) versus the corresponding family P of polynomials. For our purposes, we intro-duce notions such as the PDE-preserving hull and basic sets for a given set P which, roughly, is the largest, respectively a minimal, collection of polynomials that generate all the PDE-preserving op-erators for P. We also describe PDE-preserving operators via a kernel theorem. We apply Hilbert's Nullstellensatz.

Rayleigh wave velocity along a straight survey line on a concrete plate is measured in order to compare different non-destructive data acquisition techniques. Results from a rolling non-contact data acquisition system using air-coupled microphones are compared to conventional stationary accelerometer results. The results show a good match between the two acquisition techniques. Rolling measurements were found to provide a fast and reliable alternative to stationary system for stiffness determination. However, the non-contact approach is shown to be sensitive to unevenness of the measured surface. Measures to overcome this disadvantage are discussed and demonstrated using both forward and reverse rolling measurements.
Trends in the Study of Korean Buddhism in Europe 1968-2006

This essay traces the development of interest in the study of Korean Buddhism in Europe over the past four decades. Unlike Japan and the United States, where academic interest in Korean Buddhism had been rapidly developing since the end of World War II, Europe lagged far behind and it was not until well into the 1970s that the situation began to slowly change. In this period Korean Buddhist studies was in its infancy in Europe, and it was mainly dominated by general topics, articles, and comparative issues. During the 1980s, a growing number of scholars in Europe turned their attention to Korean Buddhism, and in the 1990s, the terrain changed dramatically. Especially interest in the Seon tradition began to captivate the minds of scholars. Towards the end of the decade a new generation of scholars had appeared on the scene, and at present, Europe can boast a relatively large and grow- ing contingent of scholars whose work reflects various approaches to the study of the religion, which includes the study of epigraphical texts and the relationship between Buddhist church and state. It is probably no exaggeration to say that Europe has by now overtaken the United States as the leading academic force in the study of Korean Buddhism.
Approaches to quantifying hepatitis B virus covalently closed circular DNA

Chronic hepatitis B is a major cause of liver disease worldwide and is currently incurable. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) covalently closed circular (ccc) DNA is a key form of the virus responsible for its persistence and is the transcriptional template for all viral transcripts. The field is focussed on methods to clear HBV cccDNA but this been limited by technical difficulties in its quantification due to: identical sequence to other forms of HBV DNA; low copy number per cell; and high resistance to denaturation by heat, leading to difficulty using polymerase chain reaction or hybridization methods for detection. A number of assays have been developed in order to overcome these hurdles either directly or detecting cccDNA levels indirectly via its transcriptional products. In this review, we summarize the approaches to cccDNA quantification that are currently used, and outline key open questions in the cccDNA biology field which remain to be answered due to the limitations of current methods.
