        The effects of innovation-oriented mission statements on innovation performance and non-financial business performance

        The innovation literature has given a great deal of attention to the antecedents of innovationperformance within the firm. Although many multinational companies include innovationrelatedwords in their mission statements, little effort has been devoted to the relationshipbetween a mission statement and innovation performance. This study investigates howmission statements influence innovation performance and then tests the relationship betweeninnovation performance and non-financial business performance. An empirical analysis wasconducted on a sample of the Chinese high-tech industry. Those companies with innovationorientatedmission have better innovation performance than companies without. The resultsalso show strong evidence that mission statements have a positive influence on innovationperformance, especially when innovation-related words are present in the statements. Theresults also indicate that both the newness of a technology and its newness to market cansignificantly enhance corporate image and customer satisfaction and that is critical for firmsto understand the appropriate time to launch new products. This study discusses thepractical implications of this work for managers.

        Nano-power Switched-capacitor Voltage Reference Using MOS Body Effect for Applications in Subthreshold LSI

        A nano-power CMOS voltage reference is proposed in this paper. Through a combination of switched-capacitor technology with the body effect in MOSFETs, the output voltage is defined as the difference between two gate-source voltages using only a single PMOS transistor operated in the subthreshold region, which has low sensitivity to the temperature and supply voltage. A low output, which breaks the threshold restriction, is produced without any subdivision of the components, and flexible trimming capability can be achieved with a composite transistor, such that the chip area is saved. The chip is implemented in 0.18 ?m standard CMOS technology. Measurements show that the output voltage is approximately 123.3 mV, the temperature coefficient is 17.6 ppm/oC, and the line sensitivity is 0.15 %/V. When the supply voltage is 1 V, the supply current is less than 90 nA at room temperature. The area occupation is approximately 0.03 mm2.

        Experimental and Mechanism Investigation on Boiling Heat Transfer Characteristics of Alumina/Water Nanofluid on a Cylindrical Tube

        Nucleate pool boiling heat transfer experiments have been conducted to nanofluids on a horizontal cylinder tube under atmospheric pressure. The nanofluids are prepared by dispersing Al2O3 nanoparticles into distilled water at concentrations of 0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 1 and 2 wt.% with or without sodium, 4-dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS). The experimental results showed that: nanofluids at lower concentrations (0.001 wt.% to 1 wt.%) can obviously enhance the pool boiling heat transfer performance, but signs of deterioration can be observed at higher concentration (2 wt.%). The presence of SDBS can obviously enhance the pool boiling heat transfer performance, and with the presence of SDBS, a maximum enhancement ratio of BHTC of 69.88%, and a maximum decrease ratio of super heat of 41.12% can be found in Group NS5 and NS4, respectively. The tube diameter and wall thickness of heating surface are the influential factors for boiling heat transfer coefficient. Besides, we find that Rohsenow formula failed to predict the characteristics of nanofluids. The mechanism study shows that: the decrease of surface tension, which leads to the decrease of bubble departure diameter, and the presence of agglomerates in nanofluids are the reasons for the enhanced pool boiling heat transfer performance. At higher concentration, particle deposition will lead to the decrease of distribution density of the vaporization core, and as a result of that, the boiling heat transfer performance will deteriorate.

      • Socio-Political study on the Causes, Evolution and Subsequent Effects of Manipur’s Communal Clashes

        This paper focuses on the Manipur clashes began in Early May, 2023. The following clashes became much more brutal between Meiteis and Kukis. Superficially, these large-scale communal clashes were caused by the tribal status approval of Meiteis from High Court of Manipur. Insightfully, the clashes are rooted in the “Reservation” and Hindu nationalism. Both catalyzed conflicts by the BJP's increasingly populist mobilization. The neglect and omission of BJP-ruled central and state governments in the early stages of clashes are worsening the situation. The opposition alliance recently launched “No-confidence vote” against Modi in Lok Sabha, arguing that his silence on brutal violence reflected BJP-led central and state governments had lost the impartiality. Only by ending riots instantly, restoring social order, creating channels for peace talks and promoting economic development could deputes be resolved, mutual trust rebuilt and peaceful co-habituated be achieved.

        Stability Analysis of Prefabricated Underground Granary Composite Silo Walls

        The prefabricated steel plate-concrete composite silos have been recently used for underground granaries. As the buried depth and diameter-thickness ratio of underground silos increase, the calculation of elastic stability, which takes into account the effects of prefabricated joints, becomes a primary consideration in the design of the silo walls. In the present study, the equation to estimate the elastic critical pressure of double-layer heterogeneous cast-in-situ silos under uniform external pressure was proposed first. The theoretical solutions were then compared with the numerical results and the accuracy of the equation was verified. To derive the critical pressure of prefabricated steel plate-concrete silo walls, an equivalent joint design method was proposed and verified by a series of numerical analyses for different models. The results indicate that if the bending stiffness ratio of the joint is larger than the bending stiffness of the composite silo wall section, the prefabricated double-layer composite silo walls are equivalent to cast-in-situ double-layer composite silo walls, and the equation to evaluate the elastic critical pressure of double-layer heterogeneous cast-in-situ silo walls under uniform external pressure could be used to derive the critical pressure of prefabricated steel plate-concrete silo walls. The bending tests of the full-scale steel plate-concrete composite silo wall models with and without joints were conducted and the experimental results indicate that the assumption of a rigid connection between the steel plate and concrete was reasonable, and the equivalence of prefabricated composite silos to cast-in-situ composite silos to obtain the elastic critical pressure is feasible and the result is reliable.

        Identification of strain hardening behaviors in titanium alloys using tension tests and inverse finite element method

        This study proposes an inverse methodology for determining the strain hardening behaviors at large deformation of titanium alloys using uniaxial tensile and notched tests with finite element analysis. Various hardening laws and data fitting range are considered to characterize the stress-strain relationships of commercially pure titanium (CP-Ti) and Ti6Al4V alloys which can increase the flexibility of identifying the proper models. A new hybrid HHSL hardening model is presented for CP-Ti and its parameters are obtained by iteratively minimizing the difference between the finite element simulation and experimental data. The hardening behavior of Ti6Al4V alloy is predicted by the weighted HSV model. The results show that mechanical response and loading curves from the identified numerical models are consistent with the experimental results of titanium alloys, demonstrating the validity and effectiveness of the proposed inverse approach in practical use.

        Study on the Tensile and Shear Behaviors of Selective Laser Melting Manufactured Ti6Al4V

        The deformation and failure of Ti6Al4V produced by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) under tensile and shear stress states have been experimentally investigated with different types of the samples. The digital image correlation (DIC) method was applied to observe the deformation, crack initiation and propagation behavior. The effects of building direction on the mechanical behavior were studied. The experimental results show that the yield strength and tensile strength of SLM manufactured Ti6Al4V along the build direction is slightly lower than the horizontal one, but the vertical samples have a higher ductility than horizontal samples. Fractographic analyses were conducted to investigate the damage mechanism and fracture mode of Ti6Al4V under different loading conditions. The defects and stress states have a significant influence on damage and failure behaviors of addictively manufactured Ti6Al4V alloy. The tensile stress tends to open up the defects in the vertically built specimen while the defects tend to be closed in the horizontally built specimen due to the building orientation. The nucleation, growth and coalescence of micro voids are the main damage mechanism of SLM fabricated Ti6Al4V alloy under tensile loading condition, and the void shearing mechanism dominates the failure of shear samples.

      • CAN ‘CEWEBRITY’ BE THE SOURCE OF NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT OF FASHION BRANDS: SCALE DEVELOPMENT AND EMPIRICAL STUDY

        Cewebrity is somebody who is only, or perhaps mostly famous through their presence on the Internet, an internet person who crosses over to the mainstream, so called web celebrity or Internet celebrity. Recognizing that Internet celebrities’ participation will bring about improvements of company performance, marketers have considered them to be new source of innovation dedicating to company’s success. For example, fashion companies believe that Internet celebrities have good innovation ideas on clothing collocation or even fashion design. Given the relevance of Internet celebrity in practice, researchers have begun to address its merits (Stever and Lawson, 2013). However, it is not yet a well-established field of academic inquiry, because Internet celebrity’s specific characteristics has not been well developed yet. Based on the nature of Internet celebrity as consumer, the theory of customer value co-creation is appropriate to explain these new generated celebrities’ activities in new product development. Activities of Internet celebrities in value co-creation can be shown as communication, idea conception, and product design (Genc and Benedetto, 2015). The current study mainly focuses on the effects of fashion internet celebrities on whole process of product development including product design, production, and commercialization by developing the scale of internet celebrity’s attributes under the perspective of customer value co-creation. Theoretically, the study fills up the research gap that no prior research develops the scales of Internet celebrity and test its effects on new product development. Practically, our work is highly useful for marketers understand the effects of Internet celebrity, thus developing appropriate strategies to utilize them.
