        영산 조용기 목사의 영적 식별 사례 연구

        영적 식별이란 하나님의 뜻이 어디에 있는지 알아보는 유용한 도구이다. 복잡하고 힘든 세상을 살아가고 있는 현대인들은 매 순간 다양한 영들의 움직임 가운데 놓여 있다. 따라서, 우리는 하나님의 영의 인도하심을 따라 선택하기도 하지만, 또 다른 경우에 악한 영에 휩쓸리는 경우도 종종 있다. 이러한 순간 식별은 하나님의 뜻이 무엇인지 알도록 도움을 준다. 그동안 영적 식별은 그 중요성에도 불구하고 개신교 영역에서 소홀히 다루었지만, 이는 초대교회로부터 현대에 이르기까지 유구한 전통을 지닌 영적 유산이다. 그러므로 본 논문은 영산 조용기 목사의 생애에 나타난 사례를 중심으로 그의 영적 식별을 다루었다. 복음 전도자인 영산 조용기 목사는 성령님과 동행하여 희망의 메시지를 선포하여 세계 최대 교회를 세운 복음 전도자이다. 그는 여의도순복음교회에서 50년 동안 사역하면서 영적 식별을 경험하였고, 하나님의 인도하심의 방법을 배웠다; 하나님의 말씀, 뜨거운 갈망, 분명한 이해와 평안, 환경, 마지막으로 꿈과 환상을 통해서 하나님의 뜻을 알아갔다. 이는 영적 거장들인 이냐시오 로욜라 및 조나단 에드워즈의 식별 규범에 일치하는 것이며, 현대 영성학자인 엘리자베스 리버트의 이론과도 일치함을 알 수 있다. 코로나19 이후, 우리는 삶의 많은 변화를 경험하였고, 영적 혼돈과 다양한 선택과 결정을 해야 하는 상황에 직면하여 있다. 모든 것이 급변하는 상황에서, 한국교회 목회자와 성도들은 영산 조용기 목사의 영적 식별 사례를 나침반으로 삼아 사용한다면, 각자의 삶의 자리에서 직면한 식별의 이슈를 해결하는 데 도움이 되리라고 본다. 한국교회 목회자와 성도들이 각자 개인의 생각과 가치관에 근거한 것이 아니라 성서적, 역사적 근거 위에서 하나님의 뜻을 식별하여 더 성숙한 그리스도인과 공동체로 세워질 수 있기를 소망하는 바이다. Spiritual discernment is a useful tool to find out where God’s will is. Modern people living in a complex and difficult world are in the midst of various movements of spirits every moment. For that reason, sometimes our choices are made in accordance to the guidance of God’s spirit, but, in other cases, we are often swept away by evil spirits. Spiritual discernment, therefore, helps us know what God’s will is. It is a spiritual heritage that has a long tradition from early churches to modern times. However, spiritual discernment has been neglected in the Protestant realm despite its importance. This paper discusses the principles of spiritual discernment in Youngsan’s life. Reverend Youngsan Yonggi Cho is an evangelist who had accompanied the Holy Spirit to proclaim a message of hope and had built the world’s largest church. He had experienced spiritual discernment in his 50 years ministry at the Youido Full Gospel Church, and then learned the methods of God’s guidance; God’s word, burning desire, understanding and peace, evidence through circumstances, and dream and vision. This guidance is consistent with the discernment rules of spiritual masters such as Ignatius Loyola and Jonathan Edwards. Furthermore, it is consistent with the theory of modern spiritualist Elizabeth Liebert. After the outbreak of COVID-19, we have experienced lots of change in our lives and then confronted spiritual chaos and situations where we have to make various choices and decisions. In those situations where everything changes rapidly, it will be helpful for pastors and members in the Korean churches to solve the various issues in their life settings using Youngsan’s case of spiritual discernment as a compass. I hope that they can be more mature Christians and communities by discerning God’s will on a biblical and historical basis, not based on individual thoughts and values.

        Hunminjeongeum Medials and Cardinal Vowels

        This study investigates the Hunminjeongeum medials and the Cardinal Vowels from the perspective of writing system. This study has discussed similarities and differences between the Hunminjeongeum medials and the Cardinal Vowels in terms of phonetic, graphical, and philosophical properties. It is shown that the Hunminjeongeum medials are characterized by a triangular vowel space, while the Cardinal Vowels are characterized by a quadrangular structure. Both systems were commonly based on extreme and polar vowels and the vowel space is divided into back and non-back series, with the intervening vowel space (possibly equidistantly) divided. It is interesting that the Hunminjeongeum medials demonstrate a central-to-front series and the Cardinal Vowels have two sets of monophthongs distinguished by lip shape. There was a remarkable similarity in the configuration of the system between the Hunminjeongeum medials and the Cardinal Vowels. It is significant that the Hunminjeongeum medials were invented half millennium earlier than the Cardinal Vowels.

      • Spatiotemporal Saliency Detection for Video Sequences Based on Random Walk With Restart

        <P>A novel saliency detection algorithm for video sequences based on the random walk with restart (RWR) is proposed in this paper. We adopt RWR to detect spatially and temporally salient regions. More specifically, we first find a temporal saliency distribution using the features of motion distinctiveness, temporal consistency, and abrupt change. Among them, the motion distinctiveness is derived by comparing the motion profiles of image patches. Then, we employ the temporal saliency distribution as a restarting distribution of the random walker. In addition, we design the transition probability matrix for the walker using the spatial features of intensity, color, and compactness. Finally, we estimate the spatiotemporal saliency distribution by finding the steady-state distribution of the walker. The proposed algorithm detects foreground salient objects faithfully, while suppressing cluttered backgrounds effectively, by incorporating the spatial transition matrix and the temporal restarting distribution systematically. Experimental results on various video sequences demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms conventional saliency detection algorithms qualitatively and quantitatively.</P>

      • Compensation for the Power Fluctuation of the Large Scale Wind Farm Using Hybrid Energy Storage Applications

        <P>This paper proposes an application of superconducting flywheel energy storages (SFESs) to compensate the power fluctuation of the large scale wind farm. Based on the global interest against global warming, the power capacity of the renewable generation, especially wind generation, has been increased steeply. However, since wind generations depend on the natural wind speed completely, the power output cannot be controlled. The power fluctuation caused by the non-controllable output characteristic may create voltage problem for local system and frequency problem for whole power system. To solve those problems, the hybrid application of the large-capacity battery energy storage system (BESS) and the high-speed superconducting flywheel energy storage system (SFES) are considered in Heangwon wind farm in Cheju Island in Korea. Through the case studies based on the site-measured output data, the optimal power and energy capacity of the BESSs and SFES are figured out.</P>

        Energy Storage Application Strategy on DC Electric Railroad System using a Novel Railroad Analysis Algorithm

        There is an increasing interest in research to help overcome the energy crisis that has been focused on energy storage applications in various parts of power systems. Energy storage systems are good at enhancing the reliability or improving the efficiency of a power system by creating a time gap between the generation and the consumption of power. As a contribution to the various applications of storage devices, this paper describes a novel algorithm that determines the power and storage capacity of selected energy storage devices in order to improve upon railroad system efficiency. The algorithm is also demonstrated by means of simulation studies for the Korean railroad lines now in service. A part of this novel algorithm includes the DC railroad powerflow algorithm that considers the mobility of railroad vehicles, which is necessary because the electric railroad system has a distinct distribution system where the location and power of vehicles are not fixed values. In order to derive a more accurate powerflow result, this algorithm has been designed to consider the rail voltage as well as the feeder voltage for calculating the vehicle voltage. By applying the resultant control scheme, the charging or discharging within a specific voltage boundary, energy savings and a substation voltage stabilization using storage devices are achieved at the same time.

        Critique of the Theory of Nature (xing) and Principle (li) in the Philosophy of Zhu Xi: Matteo Ricci and Chŏng Yagyong

        Taking recourse to the Aristotelian theory of four causes and the distinction between substance and accidents, as well as to the concept of intellectual consciousness (lingjue 靈覺), Matteo Ricci (Li Madou 利瑪竇, 1552–1610) argued that the notions of taiji 太極 and li 理 as expounded by Zhu Xi 朱熹 (1130–1200) cannot serve as the origin of existence, as their metaphysical equivalent God, does in Catholic Christianity. Taiji and li do not have consciousness and are moreover merely “accidents.” Unlike “substance,” an “accident” is something that is not essential for something to be what it is. Tasan Chŏng Yagyong 茶山 丁若鏞 (1762– 1836) follows Ricci in claiming that li is but an accident, and no more than the “formal cause” of each individual object. A “formal cause” is what something is or should be, as distinct from the “material cause” (that of which it is made), the “efficient cause” (that which gives it shape or motion), or the “final cause” (the goal for which it is intended). Ricci and Tasan did not acknowledge the role of li as the “principle, ground, cause or the reason for the existence and operation of qi 氣” (suoyi 所以) as held by Zhu Xi’s school of nature and principle. Like Ricci, Tasan also dismissed the concept of taiji as “the undifferentiated state before heaven and earth came to be divided.” However, Tasan diverged markedly from Ricci with respect to the critique of the tenet “Nature is in fact principle (Xing ji li 性卽理)”. Although Tasan and Ricci both separated xing 性 from li and deconstructed the meaning of xing from its connotation of original moral human nature, Tasan’s reconstructed xing is quite different from Ricci’s understanding “nothing other than the fundamental (ben 本) essence (ti 體) of each category of things.” Tasan’s unique contribution is his new definition of xing (K. sŏng) as the appetite or preference/proclivity [for the moral good] (K. kiho, C. shihao 嗜好), which is quite Mencian in its affirmation of the presence of an incipient tendency toward the good in human beings. That he mentions that this xing (K. sŏng), although divested of its a priori metaphysical connotations, is still mandated and bestowed by heaven as stated in the Zhongyong 中庸 [Doctrine of the Mean] further testifies to Tasan’s continued engagement with the classics.
