Incidence of Low Seroimmunity to Hepatitis B Virus in Children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Single Center Experience

        Hala H. Mansour,Ayman E. Eskander,Sara M. Osman,Normeen H. Rady 대한소아소화기영양학회 2024 Pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology & nutrition Vol.27 No.2

Purpose: Immunosuppressive therapy is frequently administered to patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which may make them more susceptible to infections like hepatitis B. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on patients aged 5–18 years diagnosed with IBD who visited a gastroenterology clinic along with controls who were the same age as the patients with IBD and were healthy overall. A logistic regression analysis using the independent variables of age, sex, race, disease phenotype, surgery, and medications and the dependent variable of adequate hepatitis B surface antibody (HBsAb) titers (>10 mIU/mL) was performed on quantitative serum HBsAb titers. Results: The study enrolled 62 patients, including 37 males and 25 females. Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and indeterminate colitis were diagnosed in 16, 22, and 24 patients, respectively. Thirty-nine patients were taking corticosteroids at the time of the study, 42 were taking immunomodulators, and four were taking biologics. Compared to 44.7% of the control group, 9.3% of the patients had protective titers. Only 12 out of 62 patients had HBsAb titers greater than 10 million IU/mL. None of the patients who received biologics or corticosteroids and 3.2% of those who received immunomodulators were found to be seroimmuned. Conclusion: The younger patients had the highest titers. Patient-specific factors that may impact these low titers include the length of the patient’s illness and the use of immunosuppressants.

      • Extracting Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) From Relational Database Schema

Hala Khaled Al-Masree 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.8 No.3

Database Reverse Engineering (DBRE) is an operation used to extract requirements from any system. The operation is implemented to facilitate the understanding of the system that has a little documentation about design and architecture. DBRE is a very important process used when database designers would like to expand the system or transition to the latest technology in DBRE fields. In the relational database model DBRE try to extract Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) from relational database schema. Database designers find content of the data for a lot of attributes are not related with their names. In this paper, proposed methodology used to extract ERD from relational database schema with the attributes related with their names, both types of entities regular and weak entity, relationships and keys, which are found in the table that has extracted the relational database schema. The basic inputs of this approach are relational database schema that generated from database. The relational database schema used to extract the information about ERD. After that, obtain information that contain keywords help database designers to extract entities and their attributes semantics related with their names from relational database schemas. Then, Determine primary keys, foreign keys and constraints of the database system. In the final step, the ERD is successfully extracted

      • Mobile-Assisted Anchor Outlier Detection for Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks

Hala Abukhalaf,Jianxin Wang,Shigeng Zhang 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.9 No.7

Accurate location information is critical to many applications in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) such as target tracking, environmental monitoring and geographical routing. Localization aims to figure out the locations of unknown nodes based on global locations of anchors and inter-node distance measurements. However, the existence of outlier anchors and outlier distances degrade localization accuracy in many localization algorithms. Most existing outlier detection approaches focus on distance outlier detection; few efforts have been devoted to anchor outlier detection. In this paper, we propose a mobile-assisted approach to detect outlier anchors and mitigate their negative effects in localization to achieve high localization accuracy. The proposed approach, namely Mobile-Assisted Anchor Outlier detection (MAAO),employs a mobile element to traverse the wireless sensor network several times to collect position information from static anchors in the network. For every static anchor, the mobile element computes the average of the anchor’s positions acquired from all tours, and compare it with the position acquired from the last mobile tour to detect whether the anchor is an outlier or not. The evaluation results show that MAAO can effectively detect outlier anchors, which consequently results in remarkable improvement in localization accuracy by not using outlier anchors in the localization process.

The Financial Behavior of Investment Decision Making Between Real and Financial Assets Sectors

HALA, Yusriadi,ABDULLAH, Muhammad Wahyuddin,ANDAYANI, Wuryan,ILYAS, Gunawan Bata,AKOB, Muhammad Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.12

This research was conducted to achieve several objectives and focus research was based on financial behavior theory and prospect theory as grounded theory e.g., investigate the financial decision-making behavior between financial and real assets investment, and confirm the relationship existing between herding behavior and overconfidence factors to the level of loss and regret aversion, and financial literacy into real assets investment decisions. The study used 220 real estate auction respondents as investor samples at the State Assets and Auction Service Office Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data was collected through the use of a questionnaire consisting of 23 questions to measure the variables. Moreover, the research data passed through several feasibility tests like the inner and outer modeling by Partial Least Square - Structural equation model (PLS-SEM) while the hypotheses formulated were also tested to determine the magnitude of the variable relationship. Through the use of the direct and intervening test, loss and regret aversion variables have a positive and significant effect while financial literacy variables have no significant effect. There is a slight difference in the decision-making process for real assets and financial assets investors. Investment decision making behavior in the financial assets sector requires less complicated decisions compared to the decisions related to real assets investments.

Three Antioxidant Compounds of the Red Alga Liagora farinosa

        Hala M. Hammoda,Jihan M. Badr,Diaa T. A. Youssef 한국생약학회 2007 Natural Product Sciences Vol.13 No.2

of the chloroform soluble fraction of the red alga Liagora farinosa, collected fromHurghada at the Red Sea resulted in the isolation of three compounds; a nucleoside (thymidine) and twoglycosides (methyl-β-D-xylopyranoside and glycerol-2-α-D-glucopyranoside). The structures of the isolatedcompounds were established on the basis of different spectroscopic techniques as well as comparison with thepreviously published data. This is the first report for the isolation of the three compounds from red algae;moreover, the compounds were examined for their antioxidant activity and showed variable activity.KeywordsRed algae, Liagora farinosa, nucleoside, methyl-β-D-xylopyranoside, glycerol-2-α-D-glucopyranoside,antioxidant activity.

The Effect of Anthocyanin-Rich Purple Vegetable Diets on Metabolic Syndrome in Obese Zucker Rats

        Hala M. Ayoub,Mary Ruth McDonald,James Alan Sullivan,Rong Tsao,Mathew Platt,Jeremy Simpson,Kelly A. Meckling 한국식품영양과학회 2017 Journal of medicinal food Vol.20 No.12

Consumption of highly colored fruits and vegetables rich in anthocyanins has been associated with numerous health benefits. Purple carrots (PC) and purple potatoes (PP) have higher anthocyanin concentrations and higher biological activities compared with less pigmented cultivars. We hypothesized that substitution of the majority of carbohydrate in a high fat diet with PP or PC, for 8 weeks, would improve insulin resistance and hypertension, major components of metabolic syndrome, compared with orange carrots (OC), white potatoes (WP) or a control, high fat, sucrose-rich diet (HFD) in obese Zucker rats. After 8 weeks of feeding, intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test, intraperitoneal insulin tolerance test (ipITT), and invasive hemodynamic tests were performed. The PP group had better glucose tolerance compared with the WP and the HFD groups and higher insulin sensitivity as measured by the ipITT and homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (P = .018) compared with the HFD without having any effect on blood pressure. The PC reduced left ventricular pressure compared with both the HFD (P = .01) and the OC (P = .049) groups and reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressures compared with the HFD group (P = .01 and <.0001, respectively) without having any effect on glucose homeostasis. The PC animals consumed more and were more obese than other groups, possibly obscuring any benefit of this vegetable on glucose tolerance. The bioactives in the vegetables responsible for blood pressure and glucose homeostasis could be different, and their effects could be independent of each other. The specific bioactives of each vegetable and their molecular targets remain to be identified. Nonetheless, incorporation of purple vegetables in functional food products may provide metabolic/cardiovascular benefits in the background of a high-fat diet that promotes obesity.

      • Outlier Detection Techniques for Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks : A Survey

Hala Abukhalaf,Jianxin Wang,Shigeng Zhang 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.8 No.6

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), localization is one of the most important topics because the location information is typically useful for many applications. The primary data used in a localization process include the locations of anchor nodes and the distances between neighboring nodes. However, these data may contain outliers that deviate from their true values. The existence of the outliers might make the estimated positions not accurate. Thus, it is important to detect and handle outliers in order to achieve high localization accuracy. In this paper, we survey the existing outlier detection techniques for localization in wireless sensor networks. We provide taxonomy for classifying outlier detection techniques in WSNs localization based on different features. In addition, we present comparisons of these techniques. Finally, we discuss the future research directions in this area.

Mimicry of Minute Pulmonary Meningothelial-like Nodules to Metastatic Deposits in a Patient with Infiltrating Lobular Carcinoma: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

        Hala Kfoury,Maria A. Arafah,Maha M. Arafah,Sami Alnassar,Waseem Hajjar 대한병리학회 2012 Journal of Pathology and Translational Medicine Vol.46 No.1

Minute pulmonary meningothelial-like nodules (MPMNs) are incidentally found lesions in lung resection specimens and autopsies. MPMNs have been associated with neoplastic and non-neoplastic pulmonary conditions and occasionally with extrapulmonary diseases. We report a case of a female patient presenting with invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast and MPMNs, masquerading as metastatic deposits. We describe the morphological, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural features of MPMNs and emphasize the importance of their recognition for proper staging and treatment of patients. To our knowledge, this is the first case in the English literature describing this coexistence.
