        White-Matter Hyperintensities and Lacunar Infarcts Are Associated with an Increased Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease in the Elderly in China

        Background and Purpose This study investigated the contribution of white-matter hyperintensities (WMH) and lacunar infarcts (LI) to the risk of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) in an elderly cohort in China. Methods Older adults who were initially cognitively normal were examined with MRI at baseline, and followed for 5 years. WMH were classified as mild, moderate, or severe, and LI were classified into a few LI (1 to 3) or many LI (≥4). Cognitive function was assessed using the Mini Mental State Examination and the Activities of Daily Living scale. Results Among the 2,626 subjects, 357 developed AD by the end of the 5-year follow-up period. After adjusting for age and other potential confounders, having only WMH, having only LI, and having both WMH and LI were associated with an increased risk of developing AD compared with having neither WMH nor LI. Moderate and severe WMH were associated with an increased risk of developing AD compared with no WMH. Furthermore, patients with many LI had an increased risk of developing AD compared with no LI. Conclusions Having moderate or severe WMH and many LI were associated with an increased risk of developing AD, with this being particularly striking when both WMH and LI were present.

        MiR-873, as a suppressor in cervical cancer, inhibits cells proliferation, invasion and migration via negatively regulating ULBP2

        Background Cervical cancer (CC) remains a large burden in the developing countries. The tumor inhibitory role of miR873 has been verified in a variety of cancers, however, whether miR-873 has a suppressive effect on CC remains unclear. Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the functional role of miR-873 in CC, as well as explore the underlying molecular mechanism. Methods The prognostic values of miR-873 were assessed by Kaplan–Meier methods and cox regression models using the data which were downloaded from TCGA database. The expression of miR-873 was measured by RT-qPCR. Cell counting Kit-8, clone formation, and Transwell assays were used to assess the cell viability and metastasis, appropriately. The targeting relationship between miR-873 and ULBP2 was predicted by biological software and confirmed by dual luciferase reporter assay. Rescue assays were conducted to investigate whether miR-873 affects the phenotype of CC cells via regulating ULBP2. Results We observed that miR-873 was low-expressed in CC. Up-regulation of miR-873 notably restrained the proliferation, invasion and migration of C33a cells. Meanwhile, down-regulation of miR-873 in SiHa cells presented the opposite outcomes. ULBP2 was forecasted and certified as a target of miR-873. The results of rescue assays showed that overexpression of ULBP2 could restore the proliferation and motility of CC cells that inhibited by miR-873. Conclusion MiR-873 suppressed the CC cells proliferation, invasion and migration via negatively regulating ULBP2, suggesting that miR-873 could serve as a valuable therapeutic target for CC therapy.

        Preparation of lithium-doped NaV6O15 thin film cathodes with high cycling performance in SIBs

        Lithium ions-doped NaV6O15 thin films have been prepared using a simple low temperature liquid phase deposition method and subsequent annealing process. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), scanning elec- tron microscopy (SEM), and photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) have been used to study the structural and physicochemical characteristics of the NaV6O15 film. The films were grown on the FTO conductive glass and used directly as an electrode of sodium ion batteries. The prepared lithium ions-doped NaV6O15 thin film electrodes showed an excellent cycling stability and discharge capacity, which may be attributed to the stability of the Li+ embedded into the gap between the V–O layers to maintain the structure and its stable β-phase structure transformed after the first cycle. The cycling stability greatly improved with increasing annealing temperature, while the discharge capacity decreased. The capacities of the film electrodes annealed at 400 °C and 450 °C maintained above 97% after 100 cycles. The lithium-doped NaV6O15 underwent a phase transition dur- ing the first charge/discharge cycle. The new transformed phase has perfect crystal structure stability undergoing insertion and deinsertion of Na+. Therefore, the lithium-doped NaV6O15 thin film possesses good cycling stability and is expected to be a promising thin film cathode for sodium-ion batteries.

      • Pressure and temperature dependence of the decomposition pathway of LiBH<sub>4</sub>

        <P>The decomposition pathway is crucial for the applicability of LiBH<SUB>4</SUB> as a hydrogen storage material. We discuss and compare the different decomposition pathways of LiBH<SUB>4</SUB> according to the thermodynamic parameters and show the experimental ways to realize them. Two pathways, <I>i.e.</I> the direct decomposition into boron and the decomposition <I>via</I> Li<SUB>2</SUB>B<SUB>12</SUB>H<SUB>12</SUB>, were realized under appropriate conditions, respectively. By applying a H<SUB>2</SUB> pressure of 50 bar at 873 K or 10 bar at 700 K, LiBH<SUB>4</SUB> is forced to decompose into Li<SUB>2</SUB>B<SUB>12</SUB>H<SUB>12</SUB>. In a lower pressure range of 0.1 to 10 bar at 873 K and 800 K, the concurrence of both decomposition pathways is observed. Raman spectroscopy and <SUP>11</SUP>B MAS NMR measurements confirm the formation of an intermediate Li<SUB>2</SUB>B<SUB>12</SUB>H<SUB>12</SUB> phase (mostly Li<SUB>2</SUB>B<SUB>12</SUB>H<SUB>12</SUB> adducts, such as dimers or trimers) and amorphous boron.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>The thermodynamic properties of LiBH<SUB>4</SUB> and its possible decomposition products and intermediates allow flexibility in selection of the decomposition pathway by tuning the external parameters such as pressure and temperature. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c2cp40131b'> </P>

        The names of the commodities often look like casual and unintentional, but they are an indispensable preoccupation for the successful competition between the manufacturers. In recent years, the female cosmetic commodities in China have a tendency of flourishing and have had more varieties. A closer look at the names of these cosmetics, we find that a definite group of words is b e d frequently. Although the number of these words is minute, the description and the expression of the commodities are really profound. From these words a better and elaborate understanding with appreciation of the Chinese words and Chinese culture is achived. Why is this group of words frequently used? What is the relationship between the Chinese culture and the mental requirement of the consumers? The present article gives a semantic analysis of the meanings of these words from the following four aspects. 1. The demonstration of the epoch spirit. 2. The demonstration of female awareness. 3. An inherit of the traditional culture. 4. The embodiment of national style. The purpose of the analysis is to show the profound Chinese culture.

        Synthesis and Solution Properties of Zwitterionic Copolymer of Acrylamide with 3-[(2-Acrylamido)dimethylammonio]propanesulfonate

        A novel zwitterionic monomer 3-[(2-acrylamido)dimethylammonio]propanesulfonate (DMADAS) was designed and synthesized in this study. Then it was polymerized with acrylamide (AM) by free radical polymerization in 0.5 mol/L NaCl solution with ammonium persulfate ((NH4)2S2O8) and sodium sulfate (NaHSO3) as initiator. The structure and composition of DMADAS and acrylamide-3-[(2-acrylamido)- dimethylammonio]propanesulfonate copolymer (P-AM-DMADAS) were characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy, 1H NMR and elemental analyses. Isoelectric point (IEP) of P-AM-DMADAS was tested by nanoparticle size and potential analyzer. Solution properties of copolymer were studied by reduced viscosity. Antipolyelectrolyte behavior was observed and was found to be enhanced with increasing DMADAS content in copolymer. The results showed that the viscosity of P-AM-DMADAS is 5.472 dl/g in pure water. Electrolyte was added, which weakened the mutual attraction between sulfonic acid group and quaternary ammonium group. The conformation became loose, which led to the increase of reduced viscosity. The ability of monovalent and divalent cation influencing the viscosity of zwitterionic copolymer obeyed the following sequence: Li+ < Na+ < K+, Mg2+ < Ca2+ < Ba2+, and that of anion is in the order: Cl− < Br− < I−, CO3 2− > SO3 2− ≈ SO4 2−.

      • Integration for Heterogeneous Manufacturing Information Systems Based on Semantic Entity

        To support semantic integration for heterogeneous information systems in manufacturing enterprises, based on semantic gateway, the concept of semantic entity is defined, and the semantic entity-based integration method is studied. Semantic entity sets up conceptual structure by aggregating semantic concept from semantic gateway, and builds dynamic conceptual structure through adding or removing its general concept. By means of key business data, semantic entity identifies business object and obtains business data from its application system, and then instantiates concept structure. Based on instantiation, semantic service can obtain parameters data from business object instant, and satisfies the interface contract. Semantic entity captures data changes of business object, and then establishes status-based integration rules, defines algorithm logic of rules. By instantiating concept structure aimed to specific application system and invoking semantic service, the integration activities among information systems come true. This work has been verified by prototype system, and attained expected integration effect.

      • The percolation threshold for tensile strength of polymer/CNT nanocomposites assuming filler network and interphase regions

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this article, the percolation threshold for tensile strength of polymer/CNT nanocomposites (PCNT) is studied by known Pukanszky model. Since the network of nanoparticles forms at very low concentration of CNT, the filler network shows strengthening efficiency in PCNT beside the interphase regions surrounding nanoparticles. The Pukanszky model is developed by the properties of network such as density (N) and strength (σ<SUB>N</SUB>). The suggested equations are applied in some samples and the results are explained. Also, the effects of several parameters such as “N”, “σ<SUB>N</SUB>” and percolation volume fraction ( <SUB> ϕ p </SUB> ) on the strength of PCNT are plotted based on the developed model. The direct influences of “N” and “σ<SUB>N</SUB>” as well as the inverse effect of “ <SUB> ϕ p </SUB> ” on the tensile strength of PCNT are displayed.         60년대 초반 중국 조선족 장편소설에 나타난 민족의식의 내면화

        This paper focuses on the internalization of the national spirit in Tiger Cliff written by Li Genquan who was the representative Chinese Ethnic Korean writer of the first generation appeared in the 1950s. Compared with Jin Xuetie who appeared at the same time but was evaluated as the master of the Chinese Ethnic Koreans' literature, although Li Genquan was active in the creation and left a lot of works, he couldn't draw the attention of the Ethnic Korean academics. The main reason was that as an influential local leader of the Communist Party of China, Li Genquan not only faithfully enforced the various politics and culture policy but also strove for incorporating the literary works with the mainstream of Chinese society, which were reflected from his works. The criticism and the indifference from the Ethnic Korean academics were the results of his consciousness of "Party Centralism" which was out of tune with the national consciousness. However, this paper indicates that standing on the Chinese political reality and Yanbian's situation in the early 1960s, considering about Li Genquan's political experience and his novels which drew materials from the Ethnic Koreans' history, the one-sidedness of the above evaluation can be found. The major theme of the novel Tiger Cluff written by Li Genquan in the early 1960's was that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, Ethnic Koreans highly united to defeat the reactionary of Nationalist Party and finally got the thorough liberation, which definitely adhered to the "Party Centralism" and "Directivity of China", but the works at the same internalized Ethnic Koreans' history of their struggles even the history of Ethnic Koreans in China. In the early 60s, national problems were prohibited in political reality of Yanbian area. So Li Genquan's courage could only be explained by his national consciousness and his subject consciousness. Spreading out the national history under the leadership of Party and establishing the position in the big frame of country were probably called "internalization" of national consciousness. This kind internalization of national consciousness was the way of living which chose the Chinese Ethnic Koreans including Li Genquan, meanwhile chosen by them after National Independence. This paper discusses the way of "internalization" of national consciousness and national consciousness with this kind of "internalization" embodied in the Li Genquan's novel Tiger Cliff. Li Genquan's novel Tiger Cliff published in the early 60s did not simply express the policy of Party and the education of national history but finally pointed to the establishment of Ethnic Koreans' national rights.

      • In-situ photocrosslinked hydroxide conductive membranes based on photosensitive poly(arylene ether sulfone) block copolymers for anion exchange membrane fuel cells

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A series of photocrosslinkable multi-block poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers containing various block lengths of hydrophilic segments were synthesized. For comparison, a series of random poly(arylene ether) copolymers were also synthesized. The anion exchange membranes(AEMs) were fabricated and in-situ photocrosslinking was carried out by UV irradiation in a swollen state. The microphase-separated morphologies of the multi-block membranes were characterized by SAXS and TEM experiments, and the membrane properties were investigated by measuring ion exchange capacity (IEC), water uptake, water swelling ratio, ionic conductivity, methanol permeability and alkaline stability. IECs and water uptakes of the crosslinked multi-block membranes were in the range of 1.11–1.42 meq g<SUP>−1</SUP> and 14.36–31.01% at 20 °C, respectively. The hydroxide conductivity was in the range of 11.38–25.00 mS cm<SUP>−1</SUP> at 20 °C, and showed a maximum value of 178.77 mS cm<SUP>−1</SUP> at 100 °C. The multi-block membranes exhibited low methanol permeability (2.75 × 10<SUP>−7</SUP> cm<SUP>2</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP>) at room temperature, which is one order of magnitude lower than that of Nafion® 117 (23.8 × 10<SUP>−7</SUP> cm<SUP>2</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP>). The crosslinked membranes showed excellent dimensional stability and alkaline stability with only a slight decrease in ionic conductivity. All the multi-block membranes showed superior properties compared to their corresponding random copolymers.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Multi-block poly(arylene ether sulfone) copolymers were synthesized for AEMs. </LI> <LI> <I>In-situ</I> photo-crosslinking was carried out by UV irradiation in hydrated states. </LI> <LI> The block copolymers exhibited hydrophilic/hydrophobic phase separated morphology. </LI> <LI> The block copolymers showed superior properties compare to the random copolymers. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
