Magnetic field effects on the proton EDM in a continuous all-electric storage ring
Hacıö,meroğ,lu, Selcuk,Orlov, Yuri F.,Semertzidis, Yannis K. Elsevier 2019 Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Vol.927 No.-

Abstract

The electric dipole moment of the proton can be searched in an electric storage ring by measuring the spin precession rate of the proton beam on the vertical plane. In the ideal case, the spin precession originates from the coupling between the electric field and the electric dipole moment. In a more realistic scenario, the magnetic field becomes a major systematic error source as it couples with the magnetic dipole moment in a similar way. The beam can see the magnetic field in various configurations which include direction, time dependence, etc. For instance, geometric phase effect is observed when the beam sees the field at different directions and phases periodically. We have simulated the effect of magnetic fields in major independent scenarios and found consistent results with the analytical estimations of the static magnetic field cases. We have set a limit for the magnetic field in each scenario and proposed solutions to avoid systematic errors from magnetic fields.

This scientific work involves a phytochemical study of a medicinal plant endemic to the south of Algeria: Limoniatrum feei Girard (Batt.). The study of the antioxidant effects and the evaluation of the cytotoxicity were reported. Polar organic extracts: methanol, ethanol and acetone of L. feei presented considerable levels of phenols and flavonoids. These levels were ranged from 127.07 to 262.11 mg GAE/g and 84 to 157.88 mg CEQ/g, respectively. Considerable antioxidant activity of polar organic extracts of L. feei was revealed. In the DPPH scavenging method, methanolic extract expressed an IC50 of about 3.2 μg/mL which is comparable to that of the ascorbic acid (2.48 μg/mL). The same extract expressed strong antioxidant power against hydroxyl radical with an IC50 of about 36.33 μg/mL, which is higher than that of the ascorbic acid (61.83 μg/mL). In the test of the β-carotene bleaching, acetone extract expressed a remarkable antioxidant power comparable to the positive control (IC50: 5.85 μg/mL and 4.26 μg/mL, respectively). A low cytotoxic activity against human red blood cells was exerced by the methanol extract of L. feei, this could explaine the safety uses of this plant by indigenous populations.

Dabigatran etexilate is one of the new oral anticoagulants approved to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). A variety of bleeding complications with dabigatran have been reported, but reports of hemopericardium are rare. We described a case of a 66 year-old female patient with non-valvular AF receiving dabigatran etexilate 150 mg twice daily for one year who suffered from hemopericardium. Her laboratory tests performed 1 year prior were normal and her admission tests revealed acute renal failure and elevated international normalized ratio (INR) level (4.79). Urgent pericardiocentesis was followed by improved renal functions and normalized INR. Dabigatran etexilate is a new oral anticoagulant that is increasingly used in daily practice. However, life-threatening complications warrant caution. Elevated INR may be related with overdose but the association of bleeding risk of dabigatran and INR requires further confirmation.

Background and Objectives: In this study, we examined the role of inflammatory parameters in an apical mural thrombus with a reduced ejection fraction due to large anterior myocardial infarction (MI). Subjects and Methods: A total of 103 patients who had suffered from heart failure, 45 of whom had left ventricular apical thrombus (AT) after a large anterior MI, were enrolled in the study. A detailed clinical history was taken of each participant, biochemical inflammatory markers, which were obtained during admission, were analyzed and an echocardiographical and angiographical evaluation of specific parameters were performed. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in terms of age, gender, and history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and atrial fibrillation between both groups (p>0.05). Similarly there were no statistically significant differences in terms of biochemical and echocardiographic parameters (p>0.05). However, there were significant differences in terms of neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (p=0.032). After a multivariate regression analysis, neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR) was an independent predictor of thrombus formation (ß: 0.296, p=0.024). The NLR >2.74 had a 78% sensivity and 61% specifity in predicting thrombus in patients with a low left ventricular ejection fraction. Conclusion: In this study, neutrophil lymphocyte ratios were significantly higher in patients with apical thrombus.

The aim of this study was to investigate for the frst time the antioxidant and the antimicrobial activities of organic extracts from Traganum nudatum Delile using in vitro models. The extracts which exhibited the highest activities were then submitted to RP-HPLC–PDA analysis. The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of favonoids, tannins, alkaloids, saponins and quinones. The highest amounts of polyphenols, favonoids and favonols were recorded in ethyl acetate fractions. The strongest DPPH scavenging ability was attributed to ethyl acetate fraction of crude extract prepared by maceration EAFM with IC50 value of 20±0.11 µg/mL, ethyl acetate fraction of crude extract prepared by infusion EAFI was found to possess the highest ferric reducing power with EC50 of 35±0.4 µg/mL. The highest antioxidant capacity 200.21±0.2 mg AAE/g was exhibited by n-butanol fraction of crude extract prepared by maceration BFM. The antimicrobial activity was proven against all the tested microorganisms except on Candida albicans strains. The extracts were more active on Gram positive than Gram negative bacteria. The strongest inhibition was provided against Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus and Listeria monocytogenes. The identifcation of phenolic compounds using RP-HPLC–PDA technique revealed the presence of sinapic, syringic, ferulic, p-coumaric acids, catechin, naringenin and vanillin that may be responsible for the bioactivities of the reported specie. Our results indicate that T. nudatum Delile may provide a rich and novel source of natural antioxidants for industrial utilization replacing synthetic ones.
