        다운증후군 환자의 치아우식증과 치아우식 원인균 및 타액내 면역항체의 연관성

        다운증후군 환자의 치아우식증과 구강내 여러 요인들과의 연관성을 평가하고자 9-18세의 다운증후군 환자 25명과 정상인 63명을 대상으로 치아우식경험지수, 치태지수를 조사하고 효소면역분석법을 이용하여 타액의 면역항체 IgA와 뮤탄스 연쇄상구균-특이 IgA 농도를 측정하고, Dentocult 키트를 이용하여 뮤탄스 연쇄상구균과 유산간균의 수, 타액의 완충능을 측정하여 두 군의 각 값들을 독립 t-test와 카이제곱 검정을 시행하였다. 다운증후군 환자에서 유치우식경험은 정상인에 비해 유의하게 낮았으나(p<0.001), 영구치우식경험은 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 치태지수와 타액의 IgA의 농도는 두 군 간에 차이를 보이지 않았으며, 뮤탄스 연쇄상구균 특이-IgA 농도와 타액 완충능은 다운증후군환자에서 낮았다(p<0.05), 뮤탄스 연쇄상구균 수와 유산간균 수는 두 군간에 유의한 차이는 없었다. 9-11세 군에서 뮤탄스 연쇄상구균의 수는 다운증후군 환자에서 정상인보다 낮았으며(p<0.001), 뮤탄스 연쇄상구균 특이-IgA는 다운증후군 환자에서 유의하게 낮았다(p<0.05), 유치의 치아우식경험치면지수는 완충능, 뮤탄스 연쇄상구균의 수와 유의한 상관관계를 보였다. This study investigated the relationship between dental caries and various oral factors in subjects with Down' s syndrome. We compared 25 subjects with Down's syndrome with 63 healthy control. The dental caries index and plaque index were examined, and the total salivary immunoglobulin A and S. mutans specific salivary immunoglobulin A concentration were measured using ELISA. The S. mutans counts, Lactobacillus counts and buffer capacity were measured with Dentocult test medium. The decayed and filled surface index of deciduous teeth in subjects with Down' s syndrome was lower than in controls(p<0.001). The plaque index and total salivary immunoglobulin A concentration showed no difference, S. mutans specific salivary immunoglobulin A concentration and buffer capacity in subjects with Down' s syndrome were lower than in controls(p<0.001). There was no significant difference between two groups in the S. mutans counts and Lactobacillus counts. In 9-11 year age group, S. mutans counts in subjects with Down' s syndrome was lower than in controls(p(0.001) and S. mutans specific salivary immunoglobulin A concentration was lower(p(0.05). There was a high correlation among deciduous dental caries index and buffering capacity and S. mutans counts.

      • 각종혈액 질환에서의 RDW의 연구

        Morphologic studies of red blood cells have been reported by many investigators for the past decades. The method of blood smears for measuring RBC size is inappropriate because of artifact and poikilocytosis. Recently, an automated blood analyzer, Coulter Counter Model S plus Ⅱ was introduced and the RDW was easily calculated. Therefore, this study was begin to evaluate the clinical significance of RDW by determining the RDW in healthy person and various hematologic diseases. The following results were obtained. 1. The mean value of RDW in 100 healthy person was 12.74. 2. The diseases that disclosed normal RDW and low MCV: ITP, hypochromic microcytic anemia due to chronic disease. 3. The diseases that disclosed low MCV and high RDW: Iron def. anemia. 4. The diseases that disclosed normal MCV and normal RDW: Reactive marrow, Myeloid hyperplasia, Metastatic tumor and acute hemorrhage. 5. The diseases that disclosed high MCV and Normal RDW: Aplastic anemia, APL. 6. The diseases that disclosed high MCV and high RDW: ALL, CML, Refractory anemia, hemolytic anemia. From these results, RDW can be used as a valuable parameter in the diagnosis of various hematologic disorders.

      • 요로계 감염에서 Staphylococcus Saprophyticus의 검출에 관한 연구

        S. saprophyticus has been considered contaminated bacteria. but recently it was reported that those organisms are capable of causing infection of urinary tract. So, the appreciation of the significance of coagulase negative staphylococci infection is being rapidly expanded. Thus, In clinical laboratories, it has become more important to accurately differentiate staphylococci from nonpathogenic micrococcus. This study was performed to investigate the status of infected patient with S. saprophyticus. Total 2,234 urine specimen was cultured and 71 young woman with urethritis symptom was studied by urine culture and urine sediment microscopy for evaluate the age prevalance. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Among the total 2,234 urine culture, the growth the rate was 42.3%. The most common strain was E. coli and other Gram negative baccilli. The growth rate of S. saprophyticus was 0.2%. 2. Among the 71 young woman with urethritis symptom. The growth rate of S. saprophyticus was 4.2%. 3. The isolation of S. saprophyticus was from the patient with lung ca, sepsis, pregnancy and urethritis. Microscopic findings disclose epithelial cells and WBC. 4. Sensitivity pattern of S. saprophyticus disclosed that it was susceptible in penicillin, Sx, T., Ampicillin and sulfonamide, but resistant strain was founded in Amikacin, cephalothin, G. M. and K. M. From the above results, we could conclude that S. saprophyticus are not simple contaminant but important pathogen in young woman and other conditions. So, it need identify the S. saprophyticus by more simple and scientific method in clinical specimen.

      • 정상인과 혈액질환 환자에서의 혈소판 평균용적치에 관한 연구

        Molphologic study of platelet have been done by many authors for the past years, they investigated that the heterogeneity of platelet size was shown even in normal person and various hematologic disorder. In the past the platelet size was not utilized in clinical medicine because of its technical difficulties of measuring. Recently, and automated blood cell counter, Coulter counter Model Splus Ⅱ®, was introduced and platelet size could be easily gained, which expressed by mean platelet volume(MPV). Therefore, this study was planned to evaluated the clinical significance of MPV in health person and various hematologic disease. The following results were obtained: 1. In healthy person, MPV was decreased along with increasing the platelet number. 2. In thrombocytopenic patients, MPV was decreased more than normal. 3. In various hematologic disease, MPV was decreased in acute leukemia, marrow failure and aplastic anemia, normal in iron deficiency. anemia, increased in reactive marrow, MPV was varied by platelet number in various hematologic disease. This disclosed that MPV was related with marrow function and production of megakaryocytes. From these results, MPV could be used as a valuable parameter in the evaluation of platelet together with measuring the platelet number. Particular relation-ship between MPV and various hematologic disease were not observed. We should be more study for MPV.

      • Insecticidal Activities of Juglone Structure-Activity Relationship Against Maize Weevil

        Maize weevil is one of the most common and critical storage pest in the world. In this study, the insecticidal activity of the methanol extracts derived from Caesalpinia sappan was evaluated against adults of maize weevil, using by direct contact and fumigant methods. Based on the two methods, ethyl acetate fraction of the C. sappan extracts had 100% mortality against Maize weevil adults at 10 mg. The biological constituent of C. sappan extract was isolated by various chromatographic techniques and identified as juglone. On the basis of 72 h LD50 values, in the direct contact bioassay, the insecticidal activity of juglone (0.010 mg/cm2) was the most effective, followed by 1,4-NQ (0.018 mg/cm2) and menadione (0.087 mg/cm2). In a fumigant bioassay, the insecticidal activity of juglone (0.014 mg/cm2) was the most effective, followed by 1,4-NQ (0.015 mg/cm2) against maize weevil adults. On the other hand, menadione, lawsone, and 2-methoxy-1,4-NQ observed no insecticidal activity or weak. These results suggested that active compound of C. sappan materials could be used as biological control agent against maize weevil. Therefore, further research should be performed to the structure activity relationship of juglone and compared with its derivatives.

      • Damage on Lemonbalm by Chrysolina exanthematica

        Field survey were conducted in to evaluate the insect damage to growing Lemonbalm(Melissa officinalis). Lemaonbalm, belonging to the Lamiaceae family, is a smelling perennial shurb which is possible to grow in Korea. To date, there has been minimal research regarding plant culture, pest insect occurrence and management research about herbal plants in Korea. Meanwhile, it grows for processed food and cosmetics in Jellabukdo, and necessity to pest management is on the rise. Chrysolina exanthematica(Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) was realized not pest but general insect in Korea. But, in this survey, it is found to pest about lemonbalm. Damage period was concentrated in April. Rest period was decreased in density. At size of Chrysolina exanthematica, larva is 7.0*3.6mm, pupa is 8.3*5.3mm, and adult is 9.7*6.7mm. In farm surveying about Chrysolina exanthematica host preference of 5 species herb plants, Lemonbalm has great preference but, Oregano has no preference. Surveying leaf damage about 6 species in Lamiaceae family in lab., Lemonbalm belonging to Melissa genus has great damage, Some species in Mentha genus have little damage. And, Oregano in Origanum genus no damage. In Growth characteristics of healthy and damage plant, plant length on damage plant is decreased 41.3%, number of tiller is decreased 67%. Fresh and dry plant weight of damaged plant is decreased 66.7%, 64.2% compared with healthy plant. Because damage of insect can influence on plant main contitutents, we analysed the constitutent parts of extracts from supercritical fluid extraction system using gas chromatography/mass spectrometer.
