        Ovidian Narrative and Shakespeare’s Subversion of the Genre

        Ovidian Narrative is one of the most popular literary genres marking the Elizabethan England and has a significant influence on Elizabethan writers such as Thomas Lodge, Christopher Marlowe, and William Shakespeare. When one examines Ovidian narrative as a popular genre in the sixteenth-century England, there are two directions. First, the writers such as Thomas Lodge and Christopher Marlowe follow the formal features of Ovidian narrative, in particular, the three ones outlined by William Keach: “the self-conscious presentation of an already familiar myth,” “sexual ambivalence,” and “stylistic virtuosity.” However, Shakespeare subverts and rewrites the genre in his poem Venus and Adonis. Indeed, Shakespeare subverts the genre beyond formal bounds set out by Ovidian narrative. In order to discuss the ways in which Shakespeare’s Venus and Adonis subverts the genre of Ovidian narrative, this paper examines and compares the work of Ovid himself, Metamorphoses, and the works of the key writers of Elizabethan Ovidian narratives, Lodge’s Scillaes Metamorphosis and Marlowe’s Hero and Leander. Venus and Adonis shares the same qualities with Ovid as the works of Lodge and Marlowe, but in the sense of class, gender, sexuality, and rhetoric, the poem subverts the boundaries of the genre as Ovid, Lodge, and Marlowe define them. The generic study of these poems, indeed, makes it easier to understand Elizabethan England as “social codes.”

      • THE EFFECT OF HAND-SPLINT FOR 3 CASE : 3명의 환자를 중심으로

        본 연구의 목적은 손 기능에 문제가 있는 환자들을 중심으로 splint의 효과를 알아보기 위한 기초조사로써 3명의 환자를 제주 한마음 병원(제주Case1,2)과 한강성심병원(서울, Case 3)에서 2001년 6월부터 11월까지 조사하였다. 3명의 환자는 다음과 같다. ① Case 1 : 뇌성마비 아동(4세, 남)으로 한쪽 손목과 엄지손가락에 강직과 뻣뻣함이 있어서 잡기 기능이 않됨(Rt hemi type). ② Case 2 : 전기화상(56세,왼손)으로 M.P joint와 I.P joint에 관절 제한으로 완전한 주먹 쥐기가 않되며, 특히 4-5번째 손가락의 M.P & I.P가 심함. ③ Case 3 : 50% 한쪽 상지에 화상 ( 48세, 왼손)으로 M.P joint와 I.P joint에 관절 제한으로 손의 잡기 기능에 제한이 있음. 다음의 연구 방법으로 각각의 변화등을 측정하였다. 손기능의 평가는 표준화가 되어있는 Jebsen-hand function test. TPM(Total passive Motion)을 사용하였으며, 환자들의 만족도를 알아보기 위해서는 Canadian Occupational Performance Measure(COPM)을 사용하였다. ① Case 1: 두 가지 splints를 적용하였다. 즉 낮 동안에는 splint 1, 밤 동안에는 splint 2,을 6시간 이상 착용하도록 하였으며 작업치료는 시행하지 않았다. ② Case 2 : 이 환자에게는 작업치료가 끝나는 동시에 splint. 3을 6시간 이상 착용하도록 하였으며, M.P joint와 I.P joint의 관절 변화를 조절하도록 특별히 고안된 splint를 적용하였다. ③ Case 3 : 이 환자에게는 작업치료만 받도록 하였다. 그 결과 Case 1의 Jebsen-hand function test시 초기에는 측정을 할 수가 없었으나, splint착용 후 크고 가벼운 물건 옮기기(44.15), 크고 무거운 물건 옮기기(42.66), 적목쌓기(44.63), 먹기 흉내내기(54.47)등에서 처음 동작만 도와주면 측정이 가능할 수 잇도록 진전을 보였다(그래프1). 사진(착용 전과 착용 후) ② Case 2의 경우 Jebsen-hand function test의 적목쌓기와 먹기흉내내기가 가장 높았으며, 글씨쓰기가 가능했다. 손의 관절가동변화에서도 splint 착용전의 측정치와 착용 후 관절 가동 범위 의 변화 폭이 약 30˚ 차이를 보여주었다(그래프2) (그래프 3). ③ Case 3 : Jebsen-hand function test의 평가에서 적목쌓기 와 먹기 흉내내기 항목을 제외한 다른 항목에서는 변화가 없었으며, 글씨 쓰기 항목은 검사가 되지 않았다. 손의 관절가동 변화는 I.P관절에서 20˚의 변화를 볼 수 있었다(그래프 4) (그래프 5). 환자들의 만족도 변화에서는 splint를 착용했던 뇌성마비 아동이 가장 높았으며 다음은 화상환자(1)순으로 나왔다( 표1) (표2). 결론적으로 손 기능 회복에 직접적인 재활 치료뿐만 아니라, 치료 후에도 splint를 착용하여 가정에서도 계속적인 치료가 될 수 있도록 하는 것이 손의 기능회복에 도움이 됨을 알수 있었다. 그러므로 각 환자의 문제점을 파악하여 적절한 splint를 제작해 줄 필요가 있다고 사료된다. 이 기초조사를 시작으로 하여 더 많은 환자들을 대상으로 splint가 손기능 회복에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 그 효과에 대하여 계속적인 연구가 필요하다.

        The Effects of Antibiotics Blended Chitosan Membranes on the Calvarial Critical Size Defect in Sprague Dawley Rats

        <P>The purpose of this study was to evaluate the osteogenesis of tetracycline blended chitosan membranes on the calvarial critical size defect in Sprague Dawley. An 8 mm surgical defect was created with a trephine bur in the area of the midsagittal suture. Forty rats were divided into four groups: negative control group, positive control group and two experimental groups. Three types of membranes were made and a comparative study was done. One type of non-woven membrane was made by chitosan for positive control. The other two types of non-woven membranes were made by immersing non-woven chitosan into either the tetracycline solution or the chitosan-tetracycline solution. Histologic analysis was done at 2 weeks and 8 weeks of healing periods. We concluded that that the use of tetracycline blended chitosan membrane on the calvarial defects in rats has a significant effect on the regeneration of bone tissue in itself. In addition it implicates that tetracycline blended chitosan membrane may be useful for guided tissue regeneration.</P>

      • Healing of surgically created circumferential gap around Nano-coating surface dental implants in dogs

        <P>The development and expanded use of dental implants has been remarkably increased. The implant stability and osseointegration are important factors in the success of treatment. Commercially pure titanium and its alloys are the most commonly used materials for endosseous dental implants. Hydroxyapatite (HA), one of the calcium phosphate, has been studied for biomedical applications since it has similarity in chemistry with inorganic components of human bone and its biocompatibility. But the use of HA coated dental implants remain still controversial, because some reports suggest that the HA coating may separate from the substructure, undergo dissolution in tissue fluids, and contribute to rapid breakdown around the implants. HA coating can be applied on metal implants by numerous methods. Of several coating methods, ion beam-assisted deposition (IBAD) has shown to promise. This study was to compare the healing response of various nano-coating surface implants (by IBAD) placed in surgically created circumferential gaps 12 weeks postplacement.</P><P>In six mongrel dogs, all mandible premolars and the first molar were extracted and after an 8-week healing period, four kinds of implants were placed. 2 mm circumferential coronal defects around the implants were performed surgically with a customized step drill. Groups were divided according to the fixture surfaces. The dogs were sacrificed following a 12 week healing period. Specimens were analyzed histologically and histomorphometrically.</P><P>During the healing period, healing was uneventful and implants were well maintained. The bone-to-implant contact (BIC) for experimental groups —calcium phosphate coating implants with or without heat treatment- were much higher than the control group. The defect fill were also higher in the experimental groups. In the control group, the coronal part showed minimal bone fill and osseointegration.</P><P>Within the scope of this study, calcium phosphate coating using IBAD may improve the bone response and the calcium phosphate coating may therefore be suitable in implant design with complex surface geometries.         Preliminary Design of the Forced Gas Drying System for Spent Nuclear Fuel Dry Storage

        원자력발전소내 습식저장중인 사용후핵연료의 건식저장을 위해서는 캐니스터 내부에 사용후핵연료를 옮겨 담은 이후, 건 식저장 캐니스터 내장품이나 사용후핵연료 다발의 부식방지 및 피복관의 열화방지를 위해 모든 수분은 제거해야 한다. 캐 니스터 내부의 수분을 제거하는데 사용할 수 있는 기체강제순환 건조시스템 개발을 위한 연구개발이 진행중이다. 본 연구 에서는 기체강제순환 건조시스템 설계, 제작을 위한 예비설계를 수행하였다. 예비설계에는 캐니스터 내부 잔존수분 제거를 위한 건조사례조사, 건조관련 규격이나 표준, 건조합격기준, 건조장치구성, 현장요구분석, 습식저장중인 사용후핵연료 특성 을 포함하였다. 예비설계를 통하여 기체강제순환 건조시스템의 설계 개념도와 P&ID를 도출하였고, 이를 활용하여 건조시 스템 제작을 위한 상세설계를 수행할 것이다. For dry storage of the spent nuclear fuel (SNF) stored in the storage pool of a nuclear power plant, essentially all moisture must be removed to prevent corrosion of the assembly and canister internals and/or degradation of fuel cladding integrity after SNF canister loading operation. R&D work is now in progress on a forced gas drying system that can be used to remove residual water in canisters. In this work, preliminary design is performed to manufacture the forced gas drying system. This process includes a case study of dry methods for canister moisture removal, relative codes and standards, confirmation of adequate dryness, needs analysis at plant sites, and characteristics of SNF stored in pools. Through this preliminary design work, we obtained a conceptual flow diagram and preliminary P&ID of the forced gas drying system. The results of this study can be used to determine details of the design to manufacture the forced gas drying system.

        A survey on the use of mobile phones due to COVID-19

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes in the use of mobile phones due to COVID-19. The subjects of this study were those who lived in Jeju City and used their own mobile phone for more than 2 years, and were included in adult men and women aged 15 to 80 years old. The purpose of this study was explained and a questionnaire survey was conducted on 156 people who agreed. The survey period lasted from June 15 to July 4, 2020. As a result, the daily use time and function of the mobile phone, which were used more than before the occurrence of COVID-19, increased. This was a statistically significant trend (p<0.001) with increasing trend after COVID-19 in all age groups. In addition, in the mobile phone function, all age groups used more 'KakaoTalk' than 'call', but it was found that only the group with less than 1 hour of daily using time used the call function a lot.
