        Objectives: This study was performed to find the association of cigarette smoking and blood lipid profiles in healthy young adults. Methods: The data was collected by a self-administered questionnaire and health examination in 489 professional soldiers from 6 to 12 May, 2004. The status of cigarette smoking was classified by non-smoking, ex-smoked, ≤4.9, 5-9.9, and ≥10 pack-years. The statistical analysis were used by chi-square test, analysis of variance and analysis of covariates. Results: In status of subjects cigarette smoking, current smoking, ex-smoked, and non-smoking were 71.8%, 11.2%, and 17.0%, respectively, In distribution by amount of smoking, non-smoking, ex-smoked, ≤4.9 pack-years, 5-9.9 pack-years, and ≥10 pack-years were 17.0%, 11.2%, 37.4%, 21.3%, and 13.1%, respectively. At other confounding variables were controlled, total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were increased significantly when amount of smoking was increased. However, triglyceride and HDL-cholesterol did not showed statistically significant differences, Conclusion: Smoking has relevant to total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol and it is need to perform the further study for finding how blood lipid profiles are affected its level by cigarette smoking and to find an influence of cigarette smoking on cardiovascular disease.

        Analysis of Changes in Retinal Photoreceptors Using Optical Coherence Tomography in a Feline Model of Iodoacetic Acid-induced Retinal Degeneration

        Purpose: We investigated structural changes in the retina by using optical coherence tomography (OCT) in a feline model of retinal degeneration using iodoacetic acid (IAA). Methods: We examined 22 eyes of 11 felines over 2 years of age. The felines had fasted for 12 hours and were intravenously injected with IAA 20 mg/kg of body weight. OCT (Spectralis OCT) was performed at the point where the ends of the retinal vessels collected in the lateral direction from the optic nerve head and area centralis. Similarly, OCT was performed four times at 1-week intervals following injections, at which point the felines were sacrificed and histologic examinations were performed. Using OCT, the thickness of each layer of the retina was measured. Results: The average body weight of the three male and eight female felines investigated in this study was 1.61 ± 0.19 kg. The mean total retinal thickness of the felines before injection was 221.32 ± 9.82 μm, with a significant decrease in the retinal thickness at 2, 3, and 4 weeks following injections of 186.41 ± 35.42, 174.56 ± 31.94, and 175.35 ± 33.84 μm, respectively (p = 0.028, 0.027, and 0.027, respectively). The thickness of the outer nuclear layer was 57.49 ± 8.03 μm before injection and 29.26 ± 17.87, 25.62 ± 13.88, and 31.60 ± 18.38 μm at 2, 3, and 4 weeks, respectively, after injection (p = 0.028, 0.028, 0.046, respectively). Conclusions: In a feline model of retinal degeneration using IAA, the total retinal thickness and the thickness of the outer nuclear layer were shown to decrease significantly on OCT.

        GIS에 의한 댐 유역 수질오염사고 평가

        The water pollution such as oil spill from stream and river because of car accidents have been frequent cases in the watershed of Dam. However we don`t have any simulation methods about flow modeling on the watershed and stream tree. In this study aims to analyze water pollution accidents area on impact range for ANDONG-Dam. The focused watershed and the risk range of path analysis model was designed by GIS database. The frequency of transportation accidents which may occur from road accidents in the level of quantitative and qualitative analysis to map flow analysis using ArcHydro Model and Open Geospatial Consortium(OGC) API. and the path way from the accident point to the reservoir stayed on the path was simulated. The area of risk accessment index was displayed with cell and grid of dam area.

        Varicella-Zoster Virus ORF39 Transmembrane Protein Suppresses Interferon-Beta Promoter Activation by Interacting with STING

        Varicella-Zoster virus (VZV) causes varicella in primary infection of children and zoster during reactivation in adults. Type I interferon (IFN) signaling suppresses VZV growth, and stimulator of interferon genes (STING) plays an important role in anti-VZV responses by regulating type I IFN signaling. VZV-encoded proteins are shown to inhibit STING-mediated activation of the IFN-β promoter. However, the mechanisms by which VZV regulates STING-mediated signaling pathways are largely unknown. In this study, we demonstrate that the transmembrane protein encoded by VZV open reading frame (ORF) 39 suppresses STING-mediated IFN-β production by interacting with STING. In IFN-β promoter reporter assays, ORF39 protein (ORF39p) inhibited STING-mediated activation of the IFN-β promoter. ORF39p interacted with STING in co-transfection assays, and this interaction was comparable to that of STING dimerization. The cytoplasmic N-terminal 73 amino acids region of ORF39P was not necessary for ORF39 binding and suppression of STING-mediated IFN-β activation. ORF39p also formed a complex containing both STING and TBK1. A recombinant VZV expressing HA-tagged ORF39 was produced using bacmid mutagenesis and showed similar growth to its parent virus. During HA-ORF39 virus infection, the expression level of STING was markedly reduced, and HA-ORF39 interacted with STING. Moreover, HA-ORF39 also colocalized with glycoprotein K (encoded by ORF5) and STING at the Golgi during virus infection. Our results demonstrate that the transmembrane protein ORF39p of VZV plays a role in evading the type I IFN responses by suppressing STINGmediated activation of the IFN-β promoter.

        Exchanging noble and seminoble cations into zeolites by oxygen vacancy ion exchange (OVIE)

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>It is proposed that cation exchanged zeolites can be prepared by reacting their decationized forms, e.g., (SiO<SUB>2</SUB>)<SUB>n</SUB>(Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>m</SUB>, n ≥ 2m, with noble or seminoble metals and oxygen or ozone. The resulting oxide ions would very exoergically occupy vacancies in the zeolite framework and the cations would go to conventional extraframework positions. The noble metals Rh, Pd, Ir, Pt, and Au and the seminoble metals Ru, Ag, Re, Os, Hg, and Bi are suggested. A sample reaction using decationized zeolite LTA would be: 6Pd + 3O<SUB>2</SUB> + Si<SUB>12</SUB>Al<SUB>12</SUB>O<SUB>42</SUB> → Pd<SUB>6</SUB>Si<SUB>12</SUB>Al<SUB>12</SUB>O<SUB>48</SUB>. Decationized zeolites can be prepared by heating zeolites, especially high-Al zeolites, in their H<SUP>+</SUP> or NH<SUB>4</SUB> <SUP>+</SUP> forms, causing them to lose framework oxygen atoms as H<SUB>2</SUB>O. The reactions may occur by simply heating a mixture of starting materials in flowing oxygen or ozone, e.g., 6Pd + 3O<SUB>2</SUB> + (NH<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>12</SUB>Si<SUB>12</SUB>Al<SUB>12</SUB>O<SUB>48</SUB>.nH<SUB>2</SUB>O → Pd<SUB>6</SUB>Si<SUB>12</SUB>Al<SUB>12</SUB>O<SUB>48</SUB> + 12NH<SUB>3</SUB> + (6 + n)H<SUB>2</SUB>O.         고구려 광개토왕대의 후연 정벌

        During the period of confusion, called 'Five houses Sixteen bureaus', Goguryeo(高句麗) went into Liaohe(遼河) in China to confront Moyong(慕容) family belonging to the clan of Seonbi(鮮卑), which means a man of virtue. At the same time, Jeonyeon(前燕) attacked Goguryeo to loot the body of the king of Micheon(美川), to capture the mother and wife of a king and about 50,000 prisoners including both the male and female and to destroy the capital city of Goguryeo. This attack by Jeonyeon led Goguryeo to give up advancing into Liaohe and instead to concentrate its energy on recovering the damage. In addition, Jeonjin(前秦) collapsed Jeonyeon and seemed to unify China. But it was defeated by Dongjin(東晋), which caused the dramatic change of situation in northern China. Starting from the defeat, the power of Jeonjin weakened, and northern China filed off again. At that time, Moyongsu(慕容垂), who had once belonged to Jeonjin, left Jeonjin to found a country, called Huyeon(後燕) and extended his influence with the downfall of Jeonjin. Meanwhile, Goguryeo, which had fatally been defeated by Jeonyeon, was targeting Huyeon, which had succeeded to Jeonyeon. Goguryeo southward advance to begin attacking Huyeon. King Gwanggaeto(廣開土) crossed over to Liaohe to attack the fortress of Sukgun(宿軍) in 402 and established Yuju(幽州) through overthrowing Yeongun(燕郡), now Beijing(北京) in 404. He also sent a minister of state to Yuju. The evidence of the establishment of Yuju can be found in the writing on the old tomb wall painting, found in Deokheung(德興) village in 1976. After the advance to Beijing in 404, Goguryeo gradually came to occupy Dalinghe(大凌河), the home of Huyeon. Goguryeo threatened Huyeon in every side by conquering over Biryeo(碑麗), located in the north of Huyeon, in 395 and establishing Yuju with attacking Yeongun in 404. Getting advantages of this situation, Goguryeo gained supremacy over Huyeon through a wild scale expedition in 407 and dominated East Asia. During this time, Pungbal(馮跋), who held real power in Huyeon, eliminated Moyonghee(慕容熙), the king of Huyeon. Instead, he placed Gowoon(高雲), a descendant from Goguryeo, as a king to surrender to Goguryeo. Gwanggaeto accepted it to establish Bukyeon(北燕) in the north. To sum up, Goguryeo established Yuju in 404 for the first time to occupy present Beijing. Then it defeated Huyeon to found Bukyeon, a sort of a puppet government, and finally controlled as far as the west of Liaohe and Yuju besides. 고구려는 5호16국시대라는 혼란기를 맞이해 遼河 일대에 진출하여 그 일대를 차지하고 있었던 鮮卑族 慕容氏와 자연스럽게 대립하게 된다. 그 과정에서 前燕의 침입을 받아 美川王의 시신이 약탈되고 王母와 왕비 및 남녀 5만여 인이 포로로 잡혀갔으며, 수도가 철저하게 파괴당하는 등 치명적인 타격을 입게 된다. 그 뒤 고구려는 요하 진출을 포기할 수밖에 없었고 피해 수습에 전력을 다하게 되었다. 한편 前燕은 前秦에게 멸망당하고 전진은 중국대륙을 통일하는 듯 했다. 그러나 東晋에게 크게 패한 후 북중국의 형세는 다시 급변하게 된다. 이 패배를 기점으로 전진의 세력은 크게 약화되어 북중국은 다시 분열하게 되는데, 이 틈에 慕容垂가 384년 後燕을 건국하고 옛 전연의 영토를 회복해 나갔다. 전연의 침입으로 치명적 패배를 당했던 고구려에게 전연을 계승한 후연은 반드시 꺾어야할 대상이었다. 고구려는 남쪽의 백제를 굴복시키고 南進을 마무리한 뒤 드디어 북쪽으로 기수를 돌려 후연을 공격하기 시작하였다. 광개토왕은 402년 요하를 넘어 大凌河 일대의 宿軍城을 공격하고 404년에는 오늘날의 北京 지방인 燕郡을 공략하여 幽州를 설치하고 幽州刺史鎭을 파견하기에 이른다. 고구려의 유주 설치는 1976년에 발견된 德興里 壁畵古墳의 墨書를 통해 자세히 알 수 있다. 이를 통해 고구려가 404년 처음으로 북경 지방에 진출한 뒤 점차 후연의 본거지인 대릉하 지역까지 차지해 나갔던 것을 알 수 있다. 고구려는 395년에 후연의 북쪽에 위치한 碑麗를 정벌하고 404년에는 연군을 공략하여 유주를 설치하는 등 四方에서 후연을 압박하고 있었다. 유리한 고지를 차지하고 있었던 고구려는 결국 407년 대규모 원정을 통해 후연을 제압하고 동아시아의 패권을 차지하게 되었다. 이 과정에서 후연의 실권을 쥐고 있었던 馮跋은 失政을 거듭하던 後燕王 慕容熙를 제거하고 고구려의 후예인 高雲을 왕으로 내세우면서 고구려에 투항하자, 광개토왕은 이것을 수용하게 되어 北燕이 설립되었다.
