Genetic evaluation of eggshell color based on additive and dominance models in laying hens
Guo Jun,Wang Kehua,Qu Liang,Dou Taocun,Ma Meng,Shen Manman,Hu Yuping 아세아·태평양축산학회 2020 Animal Bioscience Vol.33 No.8
Objective: Eggshells with a uniform color and intensity are important for egg production because many consumers assess the quality of an egg according to the shell color. In the present study, we evaluated the influence of dominant effects on the variations in eggshell color after 32 weeks in a crossbred population. Methods: This study was conducted using 7,878 eggshell records from 2,626 hens. Heritability was estimated using a univariate animal model, which included inbreeding coefficients as a fixed effect and animal additive genetic, dominant genetic, and residuals as random effects. Genetic correlations were obtained using a bivariate animal model. The optimal diagnostic criteria identified in this study were: L* value (lightness) using a dominance model, and a* (redness), and b* (yellowness) value using an additive model. Results: The estimated heritabilities were 0.65 for shell lightness, 0.42 for redness, and 0.60 for yellowness. The dominance heritability was 0.23 for lightness. The estimated genetic correlations were 0.61 between lightness and redness, –0.84 between lightness and yellowness, and –0.39 between redness and yellowness. Conclusion: These results indicate that dominant genetic effects could help to explain the phenotypic variance in eggshell color, especially based on data from blue-shelled chickens. Considering the dominant genetic variation identified for shell color, this variation should be employed to produce blue eggs for commercial purposes using a planned mating system.
Adaptive Motion Vector Smoothing for Improving Side Information in Distributed Video Coding
Guo, Jun,Kim, Joo-Hee Korea Information Processing Society 2011 Journal of information processing systems Vol.7 No.1
In this paper, an adaptive motion vector smoothing scheme based on weighted vector median filtering is proposed in order to eliminate the motion outliers more effectively for improving the quality of side information in frame-based distributed video coding. We use a simple motion vector outlier reliability measure for each block in a motion compensated interpolated frame and apply weighted vector median filtering only to the blocks with unreliable motion vectors. Simulation results show that the proposed adaptive motion vector smoothing algorithm improves the quality of the side information significantly while maintaining low complexity at the encoder in frame-based distributed video coding.
Anti-Hero as Promise of a Future New World: Interpreting the Image of Bloom in Ulysses
( Guo Jun ) 한국제임스조이스학회 2021 제임스조이스저널 Vol.27 No.2
James Joyce’s Ulysses is a mock epic that parodies the Homeric epic Odyssey, therefore, not only its style is no longer grand, its content is also trivial. What is most striking is that its protagonist Leopold Bloom, the Irish Ulysses, compared with his prototype Odysseus, is a radical anti-hero, devoid of any heroic quality, but just an apparently most common man. But at the same time, he is also a most uncommon man not only because of his deviation from an epic hero but especially because of his great difference from the stereotypical Dubliners of his time. He is thus a heteroglossia among his fellow citizens and provides Joyce a critical perspective both to deconstruct the status quo of that time and to imagine a new future for his own nation.

Throughout his life, James Joyce is a self-exile both physically and spiritually. But that is not a mark of his escapism, isolationism or egoism. Instead, it is his strategy to transcend reification and to de-territorialize Ireland from its parochialism in his narration of his nation. This makes him a “nay-sayer” to the dominant national, cultural and religious discourses and a “heteroglossia” in representing his nation in literature among his contemporary compatriot writers. In doing so, his intention is to enlighten his countrymen and get his nation on its way towards spiritual liberation. In this sense, his works represent the very conscience of an intellectual-writer. Corresponding to his exile spirit is his intellectualized aesthetics in which “intellect” is not meant to differ from “imagination,” but is to be understood in Julien Banda’s sense to indicate stasis, transcendence, reason, pursuit of naked truth and justice in resistance against all kinds of blind passion and romanticism, partisan, racial or national. Based on his aesthetic principles, his artistic aspiration in all his works is to involve readers in intellectual reflections and polemics by subverting the conventional story writing techniques and by changing the readers’ automatic reading habit. The result is the creating of his obscure art, making it impossible for a “rapid skimming and absorption of the scant cream of sense” (in Beckett’s words) but confronting readers with the task of penetrating, analyzing, synthesizing and reconstruction. Thus, all his works have not only a unique artistic value but pedagogical significance in that they can train the readers to be rational beings and critical readers. The Place in Joyce and Its Two Flaneurs in “Cognitive Mapping”
( Guo Jun ) 한국제임스조이스학회 2010 제임스조이스저널 Vol.16 No.2
Dublin in Joyce`s works is not just a geographical location but a synecdoche for the colonial chronotope Ireland. In his representation of this temporal-spatial entity, Joyce`s perspective is different from that of the Irish mainstream cultural and political movements. While the latter is engaged in eulogizing and elegizing at the same time, absorbing both themselves and the masses in sentimentality over their own colonial fate on the one the hand and hatred against the empire on the other, Joyce is laughing all the time with different tonalities to perform the functions of ridicule, criticizing, subverting and finally utopian imagining. So his laugh is more like the laughter of Democritus invoked by Bakhtin in his study of Rabelais and his world, namely, it has a philosophical character. For Joyce, he uses this art of laughter to achieve a sober and an in-depth understanding of his nation`s own maladies and ugliness so as to demolish them as a preparation for reconstructing a new space. To achieve this purpose, Joyce has created two characters, Stephen and Bloom, with the former to perform the function of demolishing and the latter to perform the function of reconstructing. In my paper, with regard to their images, their physical and mental activities throughout the novels A Portrait and Ulysses against their specific historical, economic and cultural background, I use the Benjaminian concept “Flaneurie” and the Jamesonian concept “cognitive mapping” to interpret the mode and the implication of their images and activities, highlighting the transcendent and critical perspective thus endowed to them by Joyce in contrast to the immanent and entrapped perspective of their fellow citizens. The conclusion is that, with the double actions of these two characters, Joyce, just as Richard Ellmann says, has actually created not one but two Ulysseses in his national epic. Their flaneurie and mapping constitute the Irish version of Odyssey, a journey to open the way for national revival based on spiritual liberation.
Logistics and Matter-Element Models Based on the Firm's Innovative Approach^(+)
Guojun Ji Jungseok Research Institute of International Logis 2005 JOURNAL OF INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS AND TRADE Vol.3 No.1
In the development processes of a product's market life cycle, there are three phases of an enterprise's innovation: new product development, production processes, and product management. In this article, he analyses of benefit and costs, value, and profit to companies are discussed in different stages. New logistics features that appear in an enterprise's supply chain based on innovative modeling are discussed. Then a logistics model and its technical system based on the classified logistics center are established, which are appropriate for innovative modeling within an agile supply chain. Using the basic theory and techniques of 'extenics', the formal conception of innovative modeling-based manufacture in logistics is presented, and the matter-element models are established finally, a case study demonstrates the results.
