인더스티리얼디자인 先驅者들의 開拓精神과 國家競爭力의 相關性에 關한 硏究

Under what economic circumstances are weat present ? It is too shocking a chance to ascribe its cause to merely by accident. Who can have imagined being forced to be supported by I.M.F. just on the eve of the age of the national annual income per capita $ 10,000, the number of cars 10,000,000, and the number of houses 10,000,000 ? The hands of a clock in Korean history has been turned ten years backwards. For the past six months of I.M.F. system our everyday life has been completely changed. Our living standard has become that of ten years ago just as a reel of film is forced to be rewound speedily. A simple dream of the age of the national annual income per capita $ 10,000 has in a moment been transformed into a disappointing dream of the age of $ 6,000, the level at the end of the eighties. What with mass unemployment, high prices of commodities, salary reduction and slump in prices of houses, national assets has dwindled just as it has thawed. Accordingly, such myths as full employment, lifelong jobs and real estate myth, by-products of high-degree growth have disappeared. If we should fail in restructuring government and industries, it will result in: unchangeable national annual income per capita $ 5,000, economic growth rate munus or 1% level, high prices of commodities increasing by more than 5%, high unemployment rate 7% or so. If we fail in or delay our restructuring them, it is hard for us to look on the brighter side of our economic situations. It is reported that we have been suffering from the worst economic crisis after Korean War, that is, we are now leading our lives supported by I.M.F. In consequence, the purpose of this study is to present some ways to reinforce national competitiveness derived from a frontier spirit of industrial design pioneers, which I believe can be the Wisdom of Solomon' with which we can tide over national economic crisis and survive the cold wave. Besides, at present when we are being supported by I.M.F., this study in pursuit of beauty from the small' trying to think small, not big, is intended to present some ways as a philosophy of design so as to overcome the tide of being forced to be supported by I.M.F. The followings are demonstrated according to the purpose of this study: First, as far as historical backgrounds of industrial design and pioneers' frontier spirit are concerned, they are analyzed focusing on how the United States of America tided over international economic panics occurring in the twenties. Second, as far as the pursuit of the turning point of industrial design is concerned, they are throughly investigated and analyzed centering around the standpoints of ergonomics and ecology of industrial design. Third, in other to inspire self-confidence of we-can-do-it keeping it in mind that national competitiveness wholly depends upon design. I would like to emphasize the importance of industrial design attaching importance to the settlement of the questions. Why does national economy or existence of enterprises depend on design ? Why do we have to compete with other countries in design ?

Video-on-Demand is undoubtedly a promising technology for many important applications. Several periodic broadcast techniques have been proposed for the cost-effective implementation of such systems. However, there is a server delay for all of them. To address the shortcoming, we present a new scheme improving the staggered broadcasting by jointly using prefix caching scheme of VOD system in P2P environments. In thins paper, each client plays a role in the first segment staggered broadcasting server to serve the prefix stream to other clients that request the same video stream. The buffer can be empty after the client has served the following client. As a result, we are able to achieve no service latency time and the low buffer space.

The total phenolic and flavonoid content and antioxidative activities during production of pear juice concentrate (PJC) from two cultivars, Hwasan and Niitaka, were investigated. The main processing steps in PJC production are washing, pressing, pasteurization, clarification, filtration, evaporation, and packaging. Total phenolic and flavonoid content of end-product PJC from Niitaka decreased by 53.11 and 46.47%, respectively, while those from Hwasan decreased by 55.46 and 36.09%, respectively, compared to the phenolic and flavonoid content of original fresh fruit. DPPH radical-scavenging activities, reducing power and nitrate radical-scavenging activities showed a similar tendency as total phenolic and flavonoid content; that is, they decreased in juice concentrate made from both cultivars. Also, antioxidant activities of press cake waste (skin and seeds) from Niitaka and Hwasan pears were higher than fresh pears. In conclusion, antioxidant levels were significantly affected during processing of PJC, especially during the pressing step in which press cake waste retains the seeds and skin.

Different ascorbic acid (AA) concentrations of 0.16, 0.20, and 0.24% (w/v) were added to pear juice from the new cultivar Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai cv. “Sinhwa”. Enzymatic browning reduction and antioxidant activity were analyzed after 24 h at 37°C. Juices with 0.20% added AA showed the highest inhibition of 78.8% of polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activity. L* values of juices a with 0.20 and 0.24% added AA decreased more slowly than controls lacking AA addition and juice with 0.16% added AA after storage for 24 h. Browning indices of juices with added AA were lower than for controls. However, indices increased after storage for 24 h. The DPPH radical-scavenging activity, reducing power, and nitrite scavenging activity of all juices with added AA were higher than for controls and decreased after storage for 24 h. Addition of 0.20% AA to pear juice from the new “Sinhwa” cultivar showed the highest browning activity reduction.

A series of 2-alkyl or 2-arylthio-5,8-dimethoxy-1,4-naphthoquinones (2-Thio-DMNQ, 5a-s) and 2-alkylamino-5,8-dimethoxy-1,4-naphthoquinones (2-Amino-DMNQ, 6a-k) was synthesized and evaluated for their ACAT inhibitory activities. Among them, the 2-dodecylthio-DMNQ 5l and 2-isobutylamidoundodecylthio-DMNQ 5r showed the most potent ACAT inhibitory activities with IC50 value of 22.8 and 24.4 μM, respectively. In a structure-activity relationship study, 2-thio-DMNQs with side chains of carbon number 11 ~ 15 exhibited significant ACAT inhibitory activities.
