Development of strategies to manufacture low-salt meat products - a review

( Gracia Henreita Suci Aprilia ),( Hyeong Sang Kim ) 한국축산학회 2022 한국축산학회지 Vol.64 No.2

Urbanization is usually followed by changes in eating habits, with a specific trend toward the consumption of ready-to-eat products, such as processed foods. Among the latter, meat products are known contributors to high dietary sodium owing to salt addition. Salt plays an essential role in maintaining the quality of meat products in terms of acceptability and safety. However, an excessive salt intake is linked to high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases. Hence, several studies have been competing for the discovery of salt alternatives performing in a similar way as common salt. A number of replacements have been proposed to reduce salt consumption in meat products while taking into account consumer preferences. Unfortunately, these have resulted in poorer product quality, followed by new adverse effects on health. This review addresses these recent issues by illustrating some established approaches and providing insight into further challenges in developing low-salt meat products.

Acceptance versus catastrophizing in predicting quality of life in patients with chronic low back pain

Gracia Mayuni Semeru,Magdalena S. Halim 대한통증학회 2019 The Korean Journal of Pain Vol.32 No.1

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between pain catastrophizing, acceptance, and quality of life in relation to chronic low back pain in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. We also analyze the effect of personality in catastrophizing and acceptance. Methods: A total of 52 chronic low back pain patients were enrolled as participants from 2 hospitals in Jakarta (43 females, 9 males, mean age 54.38 years). Participants completed a set of self-reported questionnaires: the NEO Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI), Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire-Revised (CPAQ-R), Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), and Pain Discomfort Module (PDM). Results: This study showed that acceptance increased the patient’s quality of life by giving physical relief from pain. In contrast, pain catastrophizing decreased the quality of life, and increased the patients’ tendency to get frustrated, irritated, and anxious about the pain. From a personality perspective, the trait neuroticism may lead to a higher level of pain catastrophizing. Conclusions: This study showed that catastrophizing, compared with acceptance, had a greater impact on the patient’s life by reducing its quality.

Adaptive Supply Chain Management under Severe Supply Chain Disruption: Evidence from Indonesia

        Gracia ONGKOWIJOYO,Timotius F.C.W. SUTRISNO,Teofilus TEOFILUS,Charly HONGDIYANTO 한국유통과학회 2020 유통과학연구 Vol.18 No.11

The recent Covid-19 outbreak has caused severe disruption of the global supply chain, which tests firms’ ability to survive and build resilience. The concept of adaptive supply chain management (A-SCM) has never been tested against a severe supply chain disruption, such as a pandemic. Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine how firms in Indonesia develop resilience through the implementation of components of adaptive supply chain management, namely risk management, resource reconfiguration and supply chain flexibility, in order to survive severe supply chain disruption. Research design, data and methodology: A qualitative method and PLS-SEM were used to analyze 120 data collected from Indonesian manufacturing firms in various industries. Results: The findings show that risk management, resource reconfiguration, and supply chain flexibility are important components that make up A-SCM. However, only risk management contributes to help build firm resilience in the presence of severe supply chain disruption. Conclusions: The components of A-SCM have been empirically tested. The implication is that managers should carefully use RM to prepare firms for different scenarios to develop contingency strategies. This research contributes to the supply chain management body of knowledge in the context of pandemic-level disruption and broadens the dynamic capabilities perspective.

      • TRANSCULTURAL ROLE OF RELIGION WITHIN MULTICULTURAL MARKETPLACE

        Angela Gracia B. Cruz,Yuri Seo,Margo Buchanan-Oliver 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7

This paper draws on the concept of transculturality, shifting our attention beyond religion as a stable belief system toward religion as a field of transcultural practices. Our conceptualization of religion as a field of transcultural practices is empirically grounded in a hermeneutic analysis of depth interviews with 24 Southeast Asian immigrant consumers living in Auckland, New Zealand. The findings reveal two interrelated sets of transcultural practices through which religion shapes multicultural marketplaces. The first set of practices facilitates entry into multicultural marketplaces, by easing the process of border crossing and enabling social capital development. The second set of practices facilitates mutual entanglement within multicultural marketplaces, by fostering intercultural competency development, sharing of cultural consumption rituals, and enabling the flows of material resources. This paper helps to advance the growing literature on religion and marketing in two ways. First, a transcultural approach moves religion beyond a view of each religious tradition as a bounded system. Instead, religion emerges as an open and dynamic system which is deeply contextualized and whose function morphs to meet the character of the cultural context in which it is embedded. Second, in addition to the present focus on how religion produces differences in marketplace behaviors, this paper also sheds light on the transcultural properties of religion which are held in common across diverse religious traditions. Rather than becoming a dividing force in contemporary multicultural marketplaces, religious fields are also revealed to be hybridized and hybridizing fields of transcultural flows. Overall, in the context of multicultural marketplaces, religion emerges as a key site for the performance of practices which fuel transcultural dynamics.

Trajectory Tracking with a 6R Serial Industrial Robot with Ordinary and Non-ordinary Singularities

        Luis Gracia,Javier Andres,Josep Tornero 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2009 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.7 No.1

This work presents a trajectory control for non-redundant serial-link manipulators that is valid for trajectories with ordinary singularities of codimension one and non-ordinary singularities of any codimension. For this purpose, several singularity classifications are considered and a procedure is developed in order to solve the indeterminate motion of non-ordinary singularities. The proposed trajectory control is validated by simulation and by experiments with the six-revolute (6R) industrial robot KUKA KR 15/2.

Optical imaging methods for qualification of superconducting wires

Kim, Gracia,Jin, Hye-Jin,Jo, William The Korea Institute of Applied Superconductivity a 2014 한국초전도저온공학회논문지 Vol.16 No.4

In order to develop 2nd generation (2G) high-temperature superconducting (HTS) wires as commercial products, it is necessary to perform a high speed investigation of their superconducting performance. Room-temperature and non-contact optical scanning tools are necessary to verify the microstructure of the superconducting materials, the current flow below the critical temperature, and the critical current density. In this paper, we report our results of an inspection of the electrical transport properties of coated conductors. The samples that we used in our study were highly qualified rare-earth based coated conductors produced via co-evaporation, and $SmBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ (SmBCO) was the superconducting materials used in our studies. A film grown on IBAD-MgO templates shows larger than 400 A/cm at 77 K and a self-field. The local transport properties of the films were investigated by room-temperature imaging by thermal heating. The room-temperature images show structural inhomogeneities on the surface of the films. Bolometric response imaging via low-temperature bolometric microscopy was used to construct the local current mapping at the surface. These results indicate that the non-uniform regions on the surface disturb the current flow, and laser scanning images at room-temperature and at a low-temperature suggest a correlation between the structural properties and transport properties. Thus this method can be effective to evaluate the quality of the coated conductors.
