Objectives: Healthcare-related information sharing via social media is on the rise following the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) pandemic. Dental practices primarily use social media to search, share, and communicate health-related information. Considering the increasing trend of using social media, the primary aim of the present study was to identify theuse of social media by dentists and laypeople to post and view dentistry-related content in Bahrain. Methods: This questionnaire-based cross-sectional study included adult participants and dentists. A pretested validated questionnaire was administered. The chi-square test for association was used to assess the association between categorical outcomes. A p-value of ≤ 0.05was considered statistically significant. Results: In total, 249 adult participants and 53 dentists were included. A substantialmajority (83.5%) of the participants reported that they always used social media to view dentistry-related content, and 69.8%of the dentists felt that patients who use social media have better oral health awareness. A longer duration of social mediausage showed significant associations with particularly viewing dentistry-related content (p = 0.008) and contacting dentistsdirectly through social media for consultation (p = 0.055). Conclusions: An extremely high percentage of the younger populationin Bahrain is using various social media to discuss dentistry. This engagement should be wisely managed to promotedentistry-related information sharing, which can lead to increased awareness related to overall dental health. There is a definiteneed to enforce certain standard operating procedures in every country that will prevent the misuse of this technologicaladvancement.

Background: Local anesthetics alone or in combination with adjuncts, such as oral medications, have routinely been used for pain control during endodontic treatment. The best clinical choice amongst the vast numbers of agents and techniques available for pain control for irreversible pulpitis is unclear. This network meta-analysis combined the available evidence on agents and techniques for pulpal anesthesia in the maxilla and mandible, in order to identify the best amongst these approaches statistically, as a basis for future clinical trials. Methods: Randomized trials in MEDLINE, DARE, and COCHRANE databases were screened based on inclusion criteria and data were extracted. Heterogeneity was assessed and odds ratios were used to estimate effects. Inconsistencies between direct and indirect pooled estimates were evaluated by H-statistics. The Grading of Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation working group approach was used to assess evidence quality. Results: Sixty-two studies (nine studies in the maxilla and 53 studies in the mandible) were included in the meta-analysis. Increased mandibular pulpal anesthesia success was observed on premedication with aceclofenac + paracetamol or supplemental 4% articaine buccal infiltration or ibuprofen+paracetamol premedication, all the above mentioned with 2% lignocaine inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB). No significant difference was noted for any of the agents investigated in terms of the success rate of maxillary pulpal anesthesia. Conclusion: Direct and indirect comparisons indicated that some combinations of IANB with premedication and/or supplemental infiltration had a greater chance of producing successful mandibular pulpal anesthesia. No ideal technique for maxillary anesthesia emerged. Randomized clinical trials with increased sample size may be needed to provide more conclusive data. Our findings suggest that further high-quality studies are required in order to provide definitive direction to clinicians regarding the best agents and techniques to use for mandibular and maxillary anesthesia for irreversible pulpitis.
Rule-Based Anomaly Detection Technique Using Roaming Honeypots for Wireless Sensor Networks
Muthukrishnan Gowri,Balasubramanian Paramasivan 한국전자통신연구원 2016 ETRI Journal Vol.38 No.6
Because the nodes in a wireless sensor network (WSN) are mobile and the network is highly dynamic, monitoring every node at all times is impractical. As a result, an intruder can attack the network easily, thus impairing the system. Hence, detecting anomalies in the network is very essential for handling efficient and safe communication. To overcome these issues, in this paper, we propose a rulebased anomaly detection technique using roaming honeypots. Initially, the honeypots are deployed in such a way that all nodes in the network are covered by at least one honeypot. Honeypots check every new connection by letting the centralized administrator collect the information regarding the new connection by slowing down the communication with the new node. Certain predefined rules are applied on the new node to make a decision regarding the anomality of the node. When the timer value of each honeypot expires, other sensor nodes are appointed as honeypots. Owing to this honeypot rotation, the intruder will not be able to track a honeypot to impair the network. Simulation results show that this technique can efficiently handle the anomaly detection in a WSN.

Health monitoring and care is been considered as the major field in medical technological advancements. Sensors and wireless communication technologies has been applied with learning techniques to design low-cost, and low power integrated circuits with intelligent systems. This system detects, measures and analyses the health parameters such as Sp02, Heart rate, ECG and Body temperature. This system is capable of analyzing, processing and communicating the sensor data in real-time using Wi-Fi to achieve a seamless data transfer. These systems become an inseparable part of the medical environment both to the patient and the doctor. It enables the information transfer at a faster and accurate manner. Integration of these systems with robots has a major advantage of food and medicine delivery, UV sanitization and haptic video calling. Applied Machine learning algorithms with experimentation such as Min-max algorithm, Feature selection and SVM gives refines the data with most accurate values and predicts the medicine or further treatment to be provided. Along with this, robot integrated with this system serves as an emotional support with the sensor values. This can predict the patient condition on emotional basis and plays songs or movies of their preference and calls their paired friends or relatives which boosts their energy and normalizes the body parameters. The result of the combined algorithms gives 96.2% accuracy which can be improved on further classification of obtained data.

Purpose: Dental avulsion injuries have a poor prognosis that largely depends on the immediate steps taken to manage the avulsed tooth. A lack of knowledge about the initial management can lead to tooth loss, with further adverse implications for esthetics, phonetics, and overall growth and function. Hence, the present study aimed to assess parents’ knowledge regarding dental avulsion and the variables associated with their knowledge of avulsion injuries. Methods: A series of closed-ended questions on parents’ knowledge regarding avulsion, such as immediate management, storage media, handling, and urgency of visiting the dentist, was asked. Univariate associations between the outcomes were assessed using the Pearson chi-square test. The chi-square goodness-of-fit test was used to check whether the sample data were representative of the population. Results: In total, 211 mothers and 149 fathers were included, of whom 46.7% had experienced dental trauma during their own childhood. Sixty-one percent of mothers believed that they knew everything necessary about tooth avulsion and its management. A significant number of participants who thought that they had a good level of knowledge about avulsion chose water, tissue, or paper wrap to transport the tooth, and preferred tap water, alcohol, or antiseptic to clean the avulsed tooth. Conclusions: Both mothers and fathers had poor knowledge about tooth avulsion, indicating that there is an immediate need for educational programs focusing on this issue. Since a substantial proportion of participants believed incorrect information, it is vital to disseminate accurate information.

Abstract

Adoptive transfer of cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) has been used as an immunotherapy in melanoma. However, the tumor homing and therapeutic efficacy of transferred CTLs against melanoma remain unsatisfactory. Interleukin-4 receptor (IL-4R) is commonly up-regulated in tumors including melanoma. Here, we studied whether IL-4R-targeted CTLs exhibit enhanced tumor homing and therapeutic efficacy against melanoma. CTLs isolated from mice bearing melanomas were non-genetically engineered with IL4RPep-1, an IL-4R-binding peptide, using a membrane anchor composed of dioleylphosphatidylethanolamine. Compared to control CTLs, IL-4R-targeted CTLs showed higher binding to melanoma cells and in vivo tumor homing. They also exerted a more rapid and robust effector response, including increased cytokine secretion and cytotoxicity against melanoma cells and enhanced reprogramming of M2-type macrophages to M1-type macrophages. Moreover, IL-4R-targeted CTLs efficiently inhibited melanoma growth and reversed the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. These results suggest that non-genetically engineered CTLs targeting IL-4R have potential as an adoptive T cell therapy against melanoma.

Graphical abstract

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

Ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors are rare sex cord-stromal tumors, accounting for less than 1% of ovarian tumors. Majority of these tumors are benign and unilateral, only 3-5% are bilateral. These patients present with clinical features of virilization due to excessive secretion of testosterone from the tumor, however 50% may have no endocrine symptoms. We report a case of poorly differentiated Sertoli-Leydig cell tumour in a woman diagnosed during routine investigation of infertility. She had two spontaneous successful pregnancies after tumor excision laparoscopically.
