Study Design: Prospective study. Purpose: To investigate the cross-cultural adaptation, validity, and reliability of the Turkish version of the Back Pain Functional Scale (BPFS). Overview of Literature: Low back pain is a common disorder in the population that negatively affects the patient’s daily, professional, and social life. Self-report questionnaires are important to precisely evaluate back pain and making better and appropriate treatment decisions. Currently, there are several questionnaires for investigating mobility in patients with low back pain. Methods: We recruited 360 patients with chronic low back pain. For assessing the reliability of the scale, we performed test–retest and internal consistency analyses. Test–retest analysis was performed using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Internal consistency was analyzed by calculating Cronbach’s alpha value. Construct validity of the questionnaire was evaluated by comparing total scores on the BPFS with those on Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) using Pearson’s correlation coefficient analysis. Results: Cronbach’s alpha value was 0.910, indicating high internal consistency. The test–retest reliability was excellent (ICC, 0.958; 95% confidence interval, 0.710–0.908). No floor or ceiling effects were observed. Factor analysis indicated that the scale had a single-factor structure. Pearson correlation coefficient was −0.669 when BPFS was compared with RMDQ and −0.701 when compared with ODI. These values indicate a significant correlation of BPFS with RMDQ and ODI. Conclusions: These data indicate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the BPFS.

Gokhan Ilhan,Şahin Bozok,Şaban Ergene,Sedat Ozan Karakisi,Nebiye Tufekci, M.D.,Hızır Kazdal,Sabri Ogullar,Seref Alp Kucuker 대한흉부외과학회 2015 Journal of Chest Surgery (J Chest Surg) Vol.48 No.3
Background: Aortic occlusion is rare catastophic pathology with high rates of mortality and severe morbidity. In this study, we aimed to share our experience in the management of aortic occlusion and to assess the outcomes of extra-anatomic bypass procedures. Methods: Eighteen patients who had undergone extra-anatomic bypass interventions in the cardiovascular surgery department of our tertiary care center between July 2009 and May 2013 were retrospectively evaluated. All patients were preoperatively assessed with angiograms (conventional, computed tomography, or magnetic resonance angiography) and Doppler ultrasonography. Operations consisted of bilateral femoral thromboembolectomy, axillo-bifemoral extra-anatomic bypass and femoropopliteal bypass and were performed on an emergency basis. Results: In all patients during early postoperative period successful revascularization outcomes were obtained; however, one of these operated patients died on the 10th postoperative due to multiorgan failure. The patients were followed up for a mean duration of 21.2±9.4 months (range, 6 to 36 months). Amputation was not warranted for any patient during postoperative follow-up.. Conclusion: To conclude, acute aortic occlusion is a rare but devastating event and is linked with substantial morbidity and mortality in spite of the recent advances in critical care and vascular surgery. Our results have shown that these hazardous outcomes may be minimized and better rates of graft patency may be achieved with extra-anatomic bypass techniques tailored according to the patient.

Purpose: The nasopalatine canal is a well-known, important anatomical structure in the anterior maxilla, but this region contains many accessory canals. The canalis sinuosus (CS) is one of these canals; it contains the anteriorsuperior alveolar nerve, along with veins and arteries. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the CS using conebeam computed tomography (CBCT) in patients with maxillary impacted canines. Materials and Methods: A total of 111 patients admitted to the Istanbul Medipol University School of Dentistry for the exposure, orthodontic treatment, and/or extraction of an impacted canine were included in this study. CBCT images were obtained for these patients under standard conditions. Axial, coronal, and sagittal sections were evaluated to assess the prevalence of CS, the direction and diameter of the canal, its relation with the impacted canine, and its distance from the alveolar crest. Further, possible correlations with patient gender and age were analyzed. Results: The CS could be detected bilaterally in all the evaluated tomography images. The mean canal diameter was significantly larger in males than in females (P=.001). The CS ran significantly closer to the impacted canine when the canal was located horizontally (P=.03). Variations of the canal, such as accessory canals, were identified in 6 patients. Conclusion: CS is an anatomical entity that may resemble periapical lesions and other anatomical structures. Evaluation with CBCT prior to surgical procedures in the anterior maxilla will help to prevent overlooking such anatomical structures and to decrease possible surgical complications.
Representation of Sexual Violence in Turkish Cinema and Television Series
Gokhan GOKULU 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2013 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.19 No.2
Violence against women in Turkey is an endemic social problem that has been taken more seriously by public opinion in recent years. As a result, new legal arrangements have been made both to deter and prevent violence against women, which in turn have generated new appropriate administrative interventions. But the issue is not simply a matter of state concern: the media, which is an instrument of public opinion, has also focused in various ways on violence against women in recent years. This study investigates the social effects of the media’s representation of violence against women, firstly dealing with its treatment in films and TV soap operas and secondly, providing examples that show how the media has often legitimized such violence. In conclusion, I offer suggestions as to how the media can reflect violence against women in a more responsible way.

Gokhan Karaca,Oktay Aydin,Faruk Pehlivanli,Ahmet Kocael,Recep Pekcici,Esat Duymus,Sukran Akgedik,Osman Guler 대한외과학회 2016 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.90 No.4
Purpose: Ankaferd Blood Stopper (ABS) is an herbal extract attained from 5 different plants. It has the therapeutic potential to be used for the management of external hemorrhage and controlling gastrointestinal bleedings. To date, the safety of ABS for intraperitoneal usage is not clear. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness and safety of using intraperitoneal ABS in an experimental peritoneal adhesion model. Methods: Twenty-four male Wistar Albino rats were used in the study. The rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: saline, ABS, and control. On the 10th day, all rats were euthanized. The adhesions were evaluated by Nair’s macroscopic adhesion classification, and pathologically evaluated with Zühlke’s microscopic adhesion classification. Results: A macroscopic and microscopic comparison between the ABS and saline groups did not show any differences but both the ABS and saline groups were superior when compared to the control group. Conclusion: ABS was found equally effective with saline on the abdominal adhesions and to no effect on postoperative adhesion formation.

The third-party FFT IP cores available in today’s markets do not provide the desired speed demands for optical communication. This study deals with the design and implementation of a 256-point Radix-4 100 Gbit/s FFT, where computational steps are reconsidered and optimized for high-speed applications, such as radar and fiber optics. Alternative methods for FFT implementation are investigated and Radix-4 is decided to be the optimal solution for our fully parallel FPGA application. The algorithms that we will implement during the development phase are to be tested on a Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA platform. The proposed FFT core has a fully parallel architecture with a latency of nine clocks, and the target clock rate is 312.5 MHz.
Performance functions for laterally loaded single concrete piles in homogeneous clays
Gokhan mancli,M. Rifat Kahyaoglu,Gurkan Ozden,Arif S. Kayalar 국제구조공학회 2009 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.33 No.4
A key parameter in the design of a laterally loaded pile is the determination of its performance level. Performance level of a pile is usually expressed as the maximum head deflection and bending moment. In general, uncertainties in the performance of a pile originates from many factors such as inherent variability of soil properties, inadequate soil exploration programs, errors taking place in the determination of soil parameters, limited calculation models as well as uncertainties in loads. This makes it difficult for practicing engineers to decide for the reliability of laterally loaded piles both in cohesive and cohesionless soils. In this paper, limit state functions and consequent performance functions are obtained for single concrete piles to predict the maximum bending moment, a widely accepted design criterion along with the permissible pile head displacement. Analyses were made utilizing three dimensional finite element method and soil-structure-interaction (SSI) effects were accounted for.
