Maximizing the Potential of Multimedia in Indonesia: Enhancing Engagement, Accessibility, and Learning Outcomes

The COVID-19 pandemic compelled educational institutions to swiftly shift from conventional classroom instruction to remote and hybrid learning models, prompting the widespread adoption of digital tools and mobile apps for online education. As the world emerges from this crisis, there's a growing interest in exploring innovative ways to utilize multimedia tools for improved engagement, accessibility, and learning outcomes. Multimedia encompasses diverse content formats, including videos, interactive simulations, and online collaboration tools, offering various avenues to enhance the process of teaching and learning. This research paper investigates the role of multimedia tools in education, focusing on their utilization, and the challenges and barriers associated with their integration into classroom settings within the Jakarta District of Indonesia's higher education sector. Qualitative research methods were employed, involving interviews, observations, and documentation analysis conducted at a higher education institution in Bekasi District, Indonesia. Interviews were conducted with the educators (providing learning materials). The study discovered that the incorporation of multimedia tools, such as images, videos, animations, and interactive platforms like Kahoot, enhances students' focus, interest, and engagement, consequently improving memory retention and comprehension. The research also identified various challenges in successfully incorporating multimedia tools into the field of education, including resource limitations, digital literacy gaps, connectivity issues, lecturer's unfamiliarity with technology, lack of motivation, inadequate digital tools, subscription costs, quality concerns, and potential distractions. The paper offers practical recommendations for successful multimedia integration in classrooms, emphasizing clear guidelines, brief video content, specific tasks for students, thought-provoking questions, early material distribution, and guidance in using ICT.

Building the Sanctity of a Tibetan Buddhist Lojong Master through His Hagiography

Tibetan Buddhist lojong (Tib. blo sbyong), or “mind training,” is a specific approach that aims to develop the preeminent ideal of Mahāyāna Buddhism, the cultivation of the awakening mind (bodhicitta). Best known as Gyelsé Tokmé or Ngülchü Tokmé, lojong master Tokmé Zangpo (1295–1369) advocated for the importance of the bodhisattva tenets and lojong teachings. His Thirty-Seven Practices of the Bodhisattvas has drawn the most attention from today’s Tibetan Buddhist masters, such as the Fourteenth Dalai Lama, and laity alike. In spite of this significance, how Tibetan hagiographical texts (namtar, Tib. rnam thar) have portrayed Tokmé Zangpo as a model lojong master and bodhisattva has received little academic attention. By identifying particular themes in an early Tokmé Zangpo namtar written by Zhönnu Gyeltsen, The Guide to Your Devotion: Precious Gyelsé Tokmé’s Life, I offer the first scholarly discussion on how namtar commemorates Tokmé Zangpo’s sanctity. I first reveal how Zhönnu Gyeltsen’s institutional affiliation influenced his promotion of Tokmé Zangpo’s ancestral background. I further argue that the text shapes Tokmé Zangpo’s compassionate character by relating it to his childhood behaviors and extreme magnanimous actions, which mirror the Indian master Asaṅga’s life story and the jātaka tales. Finally, I examine how the text establishes Tokmé Zangpo’s lojong legacy through the lens of his connections with the Tibetan Kadam school and his achievement in visualization meditation. In conclusion, this analysis uncovers rhetorical strategies that concern a prominent master in Tibetan namtar literature. This study moreover contributes to the larger field of Buddhist hagiography and the examination of how its polyvocalic and didactic dimensions present moral behaviors of an exceptional individual, transforming a person from an ordinary figure into a master and thereby inspiring readers to follow and imitate their footsteps.

Morphological variability of intertidal Eisenia arborea (Laminariales, Ochrophyta) at Punta Eugenia, Baja California Sur

Water motion is one of the main drivers in morphological variability in species within de order Laminariales, and most of our current knowledge is based on subtidal populations. Eisenia arborea is a dominant kelp species in the North Pacific, widely distributed along the Baja California Peninsula from mid intertidal down to subtidal areas. This species presents great variability in the intertidal zone but it has not been yet evaluated such variability according to wave exposure. The present work also identifies the spatial / temporal variation, particularly respect to the presence of stipes without medulla (hollow stipes) a feature common among other brown seaweeds. We evaluated the effects of wave action in morphological variation of intertidal Eisenia arborea (Laminariales, Ochrophyta) at Punta Eugenia. The spatial and temporal variation sampling was surveyed between February, May, July, and August 2004 in the intertidal of Punta Eugenia, Baja California Sur. Our results have shown that exposed sites correlate with increased length and width of stipes as compared to more protected sites. Hollow stipes frequency changed more in association with temporal variation than with spatial heterogeneity suggesting nutrient limitation for thalli development. Our results suggest that Eisenia arborea compensate by morphological modifications the stress of living in the intertidal zone by showing larger stipes. Hollow stipes might be are also a mechanical adaptation to increase survival in high energy environments.

Mediating effrct of intergenerational family con ict between perceived parental warmth and depressive symptoms

Depressive symptoms are one of the biggest mental health issues among Korean American adolescents. Previous studies have found that parental warmth and intergenerational family conict have a major impact on depressive symptoms among Korean American adolescents. This cross-sectional study examines the mediation effects of intergenerational family conflict between perceived parental warmth and depressive symptoms among 97 Korean American adolescents aged 14 to 18 years old in the Pacific Northwest region. The results revealed that 60% of participants experienced depressive symptoms. In addition, mother-adolescent conict significantly mediated between perceived parental warmth and depressive symptoms while father-adolescent con ict did not significantly mediate. The finding suggests the need to develop intervention programs for Korean American adolescents and their parents that focus on creating an understanding of the difference between Korean culture and American culture, iden tifying early signs of depressive symptoms, and decreasing intergenerational family con ict by teaching parents to express parental warmth effectively.

Postharvest physiology and technology of the tuberose ( Polianthes tuberosa L.): an ornamental fl ower native to Mexico

The tuberose ( Polianthes tuberosa L.) is an ornamental plant native to Mexico with fl owers that are popular due to theirdelicate beauty and intense fragrance. However, as a plant resource, it has not been well studied or commercialized. If properlymanaged and/or exploited, this cut fl ower crop has the potential to further develop and expand the Mexican ornamentalhorticultural industry. At present, few studies have focused on increasing its relatively short shelf-life, which lasts about7–10 day postharvest. As a result, this review focuses on basic aspects of the cut fl ower’s physiology, biochemistry, waterrelations, and postharvest fl oral opening. Also included are its response to cooling, the implementation of diff erent packingstrategies, the application of pulsing, preservative, and hydrating solutions, and the use of 1-methylcyclopropene as aninhibitor of ethylene action. A thorough analysis of all these technologies, their mode of action, and their infl uence on thephysiological response of cut tuberose is essential for the improvement of postharvest management strategies. It is hopedthat both handlers and distributors can benefi t from this information and be successful in prolonging the shelf-life of thisvaluable ornamental resource.

Apigenin reduce lipoteichoic acid-induced inflammatory response in rat cardiomyoblast cells

Infective endocarditis is caused by Streptococcussanguinis present in dental plaque, which can induceinflammatory responses in the endocardium. The presentstudy depicts research on the properties of apigenin inembryonic mouse heart cells (H9c2) treated with lipoteichoicacid (LTA) obtained from S. sanguinis. Interleukin-1b and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 expression were detectedby reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Inaddition, western blot assays and immuno-fluorescencestaining were used to assess translocation of nuclear factorkappa beta (NF-jB), degradation of IjB, as well as activityof the mitogen activated protein kinases: extracellularsignal-regulated kinase (ERK)1/2, p38, and c-Jun N-terminalkinase (JNK). Effect of apigenin on cell viability wasequally assessed in other experimental series. Our resultsshowed that apigenin blocked activation of ERK, JNK, andp38 in cardiomyocytes treated with LTA in a dose-dependentfashion. Moreover, apigenin showed no cytotoxiceffects; it blocked NF-jB translocation and IjB degradation. Our findings suggested that apigenin possessedpotential value in the treatment of infectious endocarditis.

Qualitative Inquiry in Art Education : Portraiture and Life History Case Study as Methodology

2012년도에 진행된 세 명의 아프리카계 미국인 미술교육자들에 대한 질적 생애사 연구 박 사논문에 착수함으로써 이들의 개인서사를 통해 각 참여자가 아프리카계 미국인이자 예술가, 그리고 교사로서 자신들의 사회적, 전문적 정체성과 어떻게 타협하고 이를 경험하는지에 대해 검토하게 되었다. 이들의 삶의 이야기들을 그들의 삶이 특정한 사회적, 역사적, 그리고 체제적 환경에서 작동하는 대로 자리잡게 하는 것을 목표로, 이 연구에서는 맥락속에서 이들의 삶의 요소들을 이해하고 표현하기 위해 각 참여자들과의 과업은 가능한한 [연구참여자들과] 밀착되 는 것이였다. 생애사 연구접근과 함께 연구참여자들이 아프리카계 미술인이자 예술가, 그리고 교사로서의 자신들의 정체성을 어떻게 타협하고 수용했는지를 담아내기 위해 사회과학의 (초 상)묘사법을 사용함으로써 인간경험의 다차원성과 복잡성, 풍요함을 포착하고자 하였다. 이러 한 연구방법을 사용하는데 수반된 장점과 문제들을 설명하기 위한 탐구와 표현의 방법으로서 (초상)묘사법을 사용하며 생애사 연구작업의 방법에 대해 설명한다. 마지막으로 나는 맥락속에 서 이루어지는 [인간]삶의 통합적인 표현을 촉진하고 인종적 정체성이라는 중요한 이슈에서 사회구조적 압력(또는 영향)의 역할을 제시함으로써 인간경험의 미묘함을 상세화하여 기술하 는데 있어 이 연구방법의 유용성을 설명하려 한다.
