After Emancipation: Decolonization and the Sunset of French Universalism
Christophe Gaudin 숙명여자대학교 아시아여성연구원 2013 OMNES: The Journal of Multicultural Society Vol.4 No.1
French scholars are cited in abundance in the fields of cultural and post-colonial studies. Yet, it seems that despite their legacy and prophetic like omnipresence, they remain in their home country a legacy disputed, one more harshly criticized than anywhere else in the world. This paper tries to interpret this apparent paradox, notably by putting forward that French intellectuals have opened during decolonization a door which led them to a dead end, or more precisely to paths they would or could not keep walking on.
A Populist Twist : Multiculturalism Turned Against Itself
Christophe Gaudin 미래사회통합연구센터 2018 Journal of Conflict and Integration Vol.2 No.2
The intent of this paper is to investigate two distinct aspects of multiculturalism: the main reasons for its popularity on the one hand, the way it has come unwillingly to fuel populist movements in the last years on the other hand. It argues that its advocating a right for every community not to be hurt in their beliefs provided an unexpectedly shaky foundation to address subsequent movements based on popular anger.
