Reverse tension/compression asymmetry of a Mg-Y-Zn alloys containing LPSO phases
Garces, G.,Perez, P.,Cabeza, S.,Lin, H.K.,Kim, S.,Gan, W.,Adeva, P. Elsevier Sequoia 2015 Materials science & engineering. properties, micro Vol.647 No.-
Room temperature mechanical behavior of extruded Mg-Y-Zn alloys with varying fractions of LPSO phase was studied in tension and compression along the extrusion direction. The microstructure is characterised by elongated LPSO fibers along the extrusion direction within the magnesium matrix. Moreover, the magnesium matrix presents a bimodal grain structure with dynamically-recrystallized grains and deformed, elongated grains with the basal plane parallel to the extrusion direction. The beginning of plasticity depends on the volume fraction of deformed and DRX grains. Alloys with low volume fraction of LPSO phase (<10vol%), with a high volume fraction of deformed grains, show the typical behavior of extruded magnesium alloys where yield stress in tension is higher than in compression. This effect is, however, reversed as the volume fraction of the LPSO phase increases since DRX grains are majority.

Deformation behaviour has been examined by synchrotron radiation diffraction in an extruded magnesium - long-period-stacking-order phase alloy comprising three components of microstructure. The variation of internal strains and intensities of the important crystallographic planes of the two phases has been examined during compression at several temperatures. The long-period-stacking-order phase remains elastic to stresses beyond the macroscopic yield stress while deformation in the magnesium matrix is dominated by twinning and basal slip, with the coarse-grained regions deforming plastically at stresses well below the macroscopic yield stress while regions with fine grain size deform plastically only at much higher stresses.
Preserving Intangible Heritage in Japan: The Role of the Iemoto System
2008 International Journal of Intangible Heritage Vol.3 No.-
With this paper I make a proposal for the contextualisationof intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in the interdisciplinaryfield of heritage studies and museology, drawing on earlyresearch conducted during my internship at UNESCO andthe first years of my doctorate. I examine emergingconceptualisations of the term starting with the nationallegislation of Japan and Korea in the 50s and 60s, andmore recently with the interventions of UNESCO.
The Complexities of Transcripts and the Role of Interpreters

“It takes a village to raise a child” is a trite adage that resonates a certain truth particularly to musical talents coming from a developing country. This presentation is an attempt to document an alternative pathway to talent development in music that highlights cultural influences and the power played by stark social realities in lieu of material and intellectual resources required for one to advance in the domain. In Bloom’s (1985) stages of talent development, there is an implicit assumption that the young artist would have the resources for skilled mentors and access to much-needed resources in their pathways to expertise. Through multiple in-depth interviews conducted with two award-winning, highly-respected artist-collaborators from the Philippines, it was evident that there exists an alternative pathway towards eminence that involves exposure to music in the context of daily living and the active role played by the entire community in furthering musical talent. Moreover, one is able to discern how meaning making is achieved through art - with music used as a form of social commentary. Implications of these findings for educators and practitioners are likewise explored.

Characterizing Convergence Conditions for the M_α-Integral
Vol.24 No.3
Park, Ryu, and Lee recently defined a Henstock-type integral, which lies entirely between the McShane and the Henstock integrals. This paper presents two characterizing convergence conditions for this integral, and derives other known convergence theorems as corollaries.
