Control Parameter Analysis for an SRM Inverter for Range Extender Units with Integrated DC–DC Converter

        Götz Georg Tobias,Kolbe Jan,von Hoegen Anne,De Doncker Rik W. 대한전기학회 2023 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.18 No.3

In modern electrical traction drives, a variable dc-link voltage can be applied to increase efficiency in partial load. A dc-dc converter can supply a variable dc-link voltage and transfer energy between the battery and the dc-link. Hybrid cars combine the advantages of long driving ranges with the partial zero-emission operation. In series-hybrid drive trains, a switched reluctance machine can be used as a generator for the range extender unit. This paper presents at first the mechanism of energy transfer between the battery and the dc-link. Further, a control parameter analysis of an inverter topology for a switched reluctance machine, which combines the dc-dc converter for the power transfer between the battery and the dc-link with the inverter for the generator, is investigated. For this analysis, the control parameters turn-on, freewheeling and turn-off angle are varied to test the controllability of the energy transfer between these two components. The simulation results of the presented analysis are finally validated with measurements on the test bench.

      • Developing the post-editing skills of trainee translators : A pilot study of English to Hungarian student post-editing

Andrea Götz 한국외국어대학교 통번역연구소 2022 한국외국어대학교 통번역연구소 학술대회 Vol.2022 No.01

Almost a decade after Pym’s (2013) prediction that the rapid development of machine translation (MT) would soon turn all translators into post-editors, post-editing has indeed become an essential skill for every translator to master, even if it has not completely replaced all forms of human translation. It is by now obvious that every comprehensive translator training programme must include instruction in post-editing. Additionally, to keep pace with market demand, it is vital that students simultaneously develop their skills both as translators and as post-editors, as they could not otherwise compete effectively upon graduation. However, this kind of simultaneous training entails a number of difficulties. Firstly, students who have not yet fully mastered human translation skills face particular challenges in post-editing – unlike those professionals who acquired their human translation skills first. Secondly, the great disparity in the quality of MT output between language pairs, as well as the constantly changing nature of neural MT engines make it very difficult to develop exercises and curricula for effective post-editing instruction since training materials can quickly become outdated or irrelevant. Training in post-editing therefore needs to gain a broad understanding of the pitfalls of student translator behaviour in post-editing tasks. This paper presents a small-scale pilot study of English to Hungarian student post-editing. The study presents the results of a qualitative and quantitative examination of three post-editing tasks based on DeepL’s MT output carried out by 30 Hungarian BA students reading English at Károli Gáspár University. The aim of the study is to identify and quantify the typical problems and issues trainee translators struggle with in post-editing. According to the results, for trainee translators, post-editing and translation problems are not strictly separated. Furthermore, high quality MT output can in and of itself become a hazard as students scrutinize it less than they do lower quality MT. This paper aims to offer insights and suggestions that can be applied to post-editing training regardless of the particular language pair.

Diversity of Bemisia tabaci in Thailand and Vietnam and indications of species replacement

        Monika Götz,Stephan Winter 한국응용곤충학회 2016 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.19 No.2

The whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) is one of the most threatening pests to crop production in tropical and subtropical regions. Severe damage results from its effective transmission of plant viruses; the most serious are members of the genus Begomovirus. B. tabaci is a complex of at least 34, species with Middle East-Asia Minor 1 (MEAM1) and Mediterranean being the most aggressive due to their broad host range and enhanced resistance to pesticides. Because invasion of these species into newareas is often linkedwith severe outbreaks of new virus diseases, a comprehensive knowledge of the abundant whitefly species is a prerequisite for efficient and sustainable crop management. Species distribution of this important pest and plant virus vector is barely known, and therefore a study was undertaken to elucidate distribution and prevalence of B. tabaci in major crops of Thailand and Vietnam. In Thailand the indigenous B. tabaci Asia1 was the dominant species throughout the regions and none of the invasive species was present. In contrast, a high abundance of MEAM1 was observed in Vietnam. From its distribution in the North of the country an invasion fromSouthern China and replacement of indigenouswhitefly species could be delineated. Laboratory experiments showed that MEAM1 was able to replace the Asia II 1 species indigenous to this region within four generations. In virus transmission studies MEAM1 also showed higher rates of Tomato yellow leaf curl virus transmission compared to the Tomato leaf curl Hainan virus also indigenous to Vietnam.

      • THESEUS: A key space mission concept for Multi-Messenger Astrophysics

        Stratta, G.,Ciolfi, R.,Amati, L.,Bozzo, E.,Ghirlanda, G.,Maiorano, E.,Nicastro, L.,Rossi, A.,Vinciguerra, S.,Frontera, F.,Gö,tz, D.,Guidorzi, C.,O’Brien, P.,Osborne, J.P.,Tanvir, N.,Branchesi, M. Elsevier 2018 ADVANCES IN SPACE RESEARCH Vol.62 No.3

Abstract

The recent discovery of the electromagnetic counterpart of the gravitational wave source GW170817, has demonstrated the huge informative power of multi-messenger observations. During the next decade the nascent field of multi-messenger astronomy will mature significantly. Around 2030 and beyond, third generation ground-based gravitational wave detectors will be roughly ten times more sensitive than the current ones. At the same time, neutrino detectors currently upgrading to multi km3 telescopes, will include a 10 km3 facility in the Southern hemisphere. In this review, we describe the most promising sources of high frequency gravitational waves and neutrinos that will be detected in the next two decades. In this context, we show the important role of the Transient High Energy Sky and Early Universe Surveyor (THESEUS), a mission concept accepted by ESA for phase A study and proposed by a large international collaboration in response to the call for the Cosmic Vision Programme M5 missions. THESEUS aims at providing a substantial advancement in early Universe science as well as in multi–messenger and time–domain astrophysics, operating in strong synergy with future gravitational wave and neutrino detectors as well as major ground- and space-based telescopes. This review is an extension of the THESEUS white paper (Amati et al., 2017), also in light of the discovery of GW170817/GRB170817A that was announced on October 16th, 2017.

      • The THESEUS space mission concept: science case, design and expected performances

        Amati, L.,O’Brien, P.,Gö,tz, D.,Bozzo, E.,Tenzer, C.,Frontera, F.,Ghirlanda, G.,Labanti, C.,Osborne, J.P.,Stratta, G.,Tanvir, N.,Willingale, R.,Attina, P.,Campana, R.,Castro-Tirado, A.J.,Contini, Elsevier 2018 ADVANCES IN SPACE RESEARCH Vol.62 No.1

Abstract

THESEUS is a space mission concept aimed at exploiting Gamma-Ray Bursts for investigating the early Universe and at providing a substantial advancement of multi-messenger and time-domain astrophysics. These goals will be achieved through a unique combination of instruments allowing GRB and X-ray transient detection over a broad field of view (more than 1sr) with 0.5–1 arcmin localization, an energy band extending from several MeV down to 0.3 keV and high sensitivity to transient sources in the soft X-ray domain, as well as on-board prompt (few minutes) follow-up with a 0.7 m class IR telescope with both imaging and spectroscopic capabilities. THESEUS will be perfectly suited for addressing the main open issues in cosmology such as, e.g., star formation rate and metallicity evolution of the inter-stellar and intra-galactic medium up to redshift ∼ 10, signatures of Pop III stars, sources and physics of re-ionization, and the faint end of the galaxy luminosity function. In addition, it will provide unprecedented capability to monitor the X-ray variable sky, thus detecting, localizing, and identifying the electromagnetic counterparts to sources of gravitational radiation, which may be routinely detected in the late ’20s/early ’30s by next generation facilities like aLIGO/ aVirgo, eLISA, KAGRA, and Einstein Telescope. THESEUS will also provide powerful synergies with the next generation of multi-wavelength observatories (e.g., LSST, ELT, SKA, CTA, ATHENA).

Von Gierke Disease (Glycogen Storage Disease Type I) and Life-Threatening Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm: A Case Report of an Extremely Rare Condition

        Apostolos G. Pitoulias,Nizar Abu Bakr,Majid Kazemtash,Firouza Dahi,Michael Schütz,Konstantinos P. Donas 대한혈관외과학회 2023 Vascular Specialist International Vol.39 No.2

Von Gierke disease, also known as glycogen storage disease type I, co-existent with an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), is an extremely rare combination of diseases that requires challenging therapeutic measures. We present, for the first time in literature, the case of a 62-year-old female with von Gierke disease who required open surgical repair of an AAA with challenging neck anatomy outside of instructions for use of endovascular repair. Even though the surgical risks for lifethreatening complications, such as pancreatitis, metabolic acidosis, and kidney failure, were high, the 6-month postoperative course was uneventful. Despite the invasiveness of the treatment, surgery to treat the AAA was safe and effective. Further data is needed to draw robust conclusions about the treatment of choice for those patients with diseases in co-existence with AAAs.

Myeloperoxidase Is Not Useful for Detecting Stress Inducible Myocardial Ischemia but May Be Indicative of the Severity of Coronary Artery Disease

        Christoph G. Schuhmann,Marcus Hacker,Philip Jung,Florian Krötz,Hae-Young Sohn 대한심장학회 2014 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.44 No.1

Background and Objectives: Elevated levels of myeloperoxidase (MPO) have been found in patients in different stages of coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of this study was to assess whether the MPO liberation is increased by stress inducible myocardial ischemia and could be used to improve the diagnostic accuracy of non-invasive evaluation for myocardial ischemia. Subjects and Methods: Seventy-six patients with suspected myocardial ischemia who underwent stress myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS) were enrolled. 59 patients with an acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who received a percutaneous coronary intervention along with 12 healthy volunteers were also included in the study. In every subject the MPO plasma levels were assessed by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. In patients undergoing MPS, the MPO levels were measured serially before and after the stress testing. Results: Of the 76 patients undergoing MPS, 38 were diagnosed with a stress inducible myocardial ischemia. The patients with a stress induced ischemia had significantly higher basal MPO levels than those without it (32±3 ng/mL vs. 24±4 ng/mL, p=0.03). However, there was no relevant change in the MPO levels after the stress test compared to the baseline. The patients with ACS showed significantly higher MPO levels than the patients undergoing MPS (131±14 ng/mL vs. 28±2 ng/mL, p<0.01) and the healthy subjects (131±14 ng/mL vs. 26±2 ng/mL, p<0.01). Conclusion: Since the MPO plasma levels did not increase after the stress MPS, MPO appears not to be a useful biomarker for detecting a stress inducible myocardial ischemia. Yet, the MPO levels correlate with the different stages of CAD and may hold significance as an indicator for its clinical severity.

      • Type IIP supernova light curves affected by the acceleration of red supergiant winds

Moriya, Takashi J,,rster, Francisco,Yoon, Sung-Chul,Grä,fener, Gö,tz,Blinnikov, Sergei I Oxford University Press 2018 Monthly notices of the Royal Astronomical Society Vol.476 No.2

We introduce the first synthetic light-curve model set of Type IIP supernovae exploded within circumstellar media in which the acceleration of the red supergiant winds is taken into account. Because wind acceleration makes the wind velocities near the progenitors low, the density of the immediate vicinity of the red supergiant supernova progenitors can be higher than that extrapolated by using a constant terminal wind velocity. Therefore, even if the mass-loss rate of the progenitor is relatively low, it can have a dense circumstellar medium at the immediate stellar vicinity and the early light curves of Type IIP supernovae are significantly affected by it. We adopt a simple beta velocity law to formulate the wind acceleration. We provide bolometric and multicolour light curves of Type IIP supernovae exploding within such accelerated winds from the combinations of three progenitors, 12-16 M-circle dot; five beta, 1-5; seven mass-loss rates, 10(-5)-10(-2)M(circle dot) yr(-1); and four explosion energies, (0.5-2) x 10(51) erg. All the light-curve models are available at https://goo.gl/o5phYb. When the circumstellar density is sufficiently high, our models do not show a classical shock breakout as a consequence of the interaction with the dense and optically thick circumstellar media. Instead, they show a delayed 'wind breakout', substantially affecting early light curves of Type IIP supernovae. We find that the mass-loss rates of the progenitors need to be 10(-3)-10(-2)M(circle dot) yr(-1) to explain typical rise times of 5-10 d in Type IIP supernovae assuming a dense circumstellar radius of 10(15) cm.
