Study of the most frequent natural tooth colors in the Spanish population using spectrophotometry

PURPOSE. To identify the most frequent natural tooth colors using the Easyshade Compact (Vita -Zahnfabrik) spectrophotometer on a sample of the Spanish population according to the 3D Master System. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The middle third of the facial surface of natural maxillary central incisors was measured with an Easyshade Compact spectrophotometer (Vita Zahnfabrik) in 1361 Caucasian Spanish participants aged between 16 and 89 years. Natural tooth color was recorded using the 3D Master System nomenclature. The program used for the present descriptive statistical analysis of the results was SAS 9.1.3. RESULTS. The results show that the most frequent dental color in the total sample studied is 3M1 (7.05%), followed by the intermediate shade 1M1.5 (6.91%) and 2L1.5 (6.02%). CONCLUSION. According to the research methodology used, and taking into account the limitations of this study, it can be proposed that the most frequent color among the Spanish population is 3M1; the most common lightness group is 2; the most frequent hue group according to the 3DMaster System is M and the most frequent chroma group is 1.5.

One specimen of Pteraclis aesticola was collected off San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, México (22°54'N, 109°45'W), in March 2007. Present record is the first reported occurrence of the species in the Tropical Eastern Pacific biogeographic region (Gulf of California to southern Ecuadorian waters). Its large fan-like anal and dorsal fins and its counts of fin rays and vertebrae can distinguish the Pacific fanfish from the other species in the genus. This fish may have not yet been recorded in the region because its presence has been overlooked in the past because of rarity and lack of commercial value. Purpose: To characterize the relationship between serum estradiol levels and the expression of glucose transporter type 4 (Glut4) in the pubococcygeus and iliococcygeus muscles in female rats. Methods: The muscles were excised from virgin rats during the metestrus and proestrus stages of the estrous cycle, and from sham and ovariectomized rats implanted with empty or estradiol benzoate–filled capsules. The expression of estrogen receptors (ERs) was inspected in the muscles at metestrus and proestrus. Relative Glut4 expression, glycogen content, and serum glucose levels were measured. Appropriate statistical tests were done to identify significant differences (P≤0.05). Results: The pubococcygeus and iliococcygeus muscles expressed ERα and ERβ. Glut4 expression and glycogen content in the pubococcygeus muscle were higher at proestrus than at metestrus. No significant changes were observed in the iliococcygeus muscle. In ovariectomized rats, the administration of estradiol benzoate increased Glut4 expression and glycogen content in the pubococcygeus muscle alone. Conclusions: High serum estradiol levels increased Glut4 expression and glycogen content in the pubococcygeus muscle, but not in the iliococcygeus muscle.

Fresh and preserved (type material) specimens of the black ghost chimaera Hydrolagus melanophasma were compared for morphometric characteristics. A molecular comparison was also performed on two mitochondrial gene sequences (12S rRNA and 16S rRNA gene sequences). While significant differences in measurements were found, the differences were not attributable to sexual dimorphism or the quality of the specimens, but to the sample size and the type of statistical tests. The result of the genetic characterization showed that 12S rRNA and 16S rRNA genes represented robust molecular markers that characterized the species.
Molybdenum release from high burnup spent nuclear fuel at alkaline and hyperalkaline pH

This work presents experimental data and modelling of the release of Mo from high-burnup spent nuclear fuel (63 MWd/kgU) at two different pH values, 8.4 and 13.2 in air. The release of Mo from SF to the solution is around two orders of magnitude higher at pH = 13.2 than at pH = 8.4. The high Mo release at high pH would indicate that Mo would not be congruently released with uranium and would have an important contribution to the Instant Release Fraction, with a value of 5.3%. Parallel experiments with pure non irradiated Mo(s) and XPS determinations indicated that the faster dissolution at pH = 13.2 could be the consequence of the higher releases from metallic Mo in the fuel through a surface complexation mechanism promoted by the OH and the oxidation of the metal to Mo(VI) via the formation of intermediate Mo(IV) and Mo(V) species.
Eco-Friendly Manufacturing of Nano-TiO2 Coated Cotton Textile with Multifunctional Properties

In this work, multifunctional cotton fabrics were developed by immobilizing TiO2 nanoparticles (TiO2-NPs) usingan eco-friendly bath through a highly-scalable technique. The effects of TiO2-NPs, cross-linking agent, catalyst and curingtemperatures were assessed by analysis of variance and surface response methodology. The results disclose an excellentperformance of treated textiles for various applications: flame-retardant (char content enhanced by 1000 %), photocatalyticdecontamination (>90 % of contaminant abatement and feasibility for multiple reuses), self-cleaning of intense stains (up to80 % of stain vanishing), bacterial inhibition without TiO2 UV-activation (≈25 % of bacteria growth reduction). Moreover,those properties were durable for at least five domestic laundering cycles.
Prognostic models for locally advanced cervical cancer: external validation of the published models

Objective: To externally validate the prognostic models for predicting the time-dependentoutcome in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) who were treated withconcurrent chemoradiotherapy in an independient cohort. Methods: A historical cohort of 297 women with LACC who were treated with radicalconcurrent chemoradiotherapy from 1999 to 2014 at the 12 de Octubre University Hospital(H12O), Madrid, Spain. The external validity of prognostic models was quantified regardingdiscrimination, calibration, measures of overall performance, and decision curve analyses. Results: The review identified 8 studies containing 13 prognostic models. Different(International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics [FIGO] stages, parametriuminvolvement, hydronephrosis, location of positive nodes, and race) but related cohorts withvalidation cohort (5-year overall survival [OS]=70%; 5-year disease-free survival [DFS]=64%;average age of 50; and over 79% squamous cell) were evaluated. The following models exhibitedgood external validity in terms of discrimination and calibration but limited clinical utility: theOS model at 3 year from Kidd et al.'s study (area under the receiver operating characteristiccurve [AUROC]=0.69; threshold of clinical utility [TCU] between 36% and 50%), the models ofDFS at 1 year from Kidd et al.'s study (AUROC=0.64; TCU between 24% and 32%) and 2 yearsfrom Rose et al.'s study (AUROC=0.70; TCU between 19% and 58%) and the distant recurrencemodel at 5 years from Kang et al.'s study (AUROC=0.67; TCU between 12% and 36%). Conclusion: The external validation revealed the statistical and clinical usefulness of 4prognostic models published in the literature.

Protective surface coatings on an AZ91D magnesium alloy were formed in an atmosphere mixture ofnitrogen and 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a). The surface composition and microstructure were characterizedusing X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. The cross-sectionmorphologies of the coatings show that an increase in conversion time results in an increase in thecontinuity and compactness of the coating generated on the surface of the AZ91D alloy. The corrosionresistance tests performed by immersion into 3.5% NaCl solutions were investigated by electrochemicalmeasurements. The results showed that the coated samples had higher corrosion resistance than the uncoatedalloy. On the other hand, the corrosion density of the coated samples decreased by increasing theconversion time by about two orders of magnitude, compared with the un-coated samples. This behaviouris attributed to the formation of a protective surface film constituted mainly for MgF2, together with otherphases. The nature of these phases depends on the process conditions.
