• On-demand High Mobility Vehicular Connectivity Prediction using Random Forest Classification

Farooque Hassan Kumbhar,Soo Young Shin 한국통신학회 2021 한국통신학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.2021 No.6

Innovations and advances in the communication technologies for vehicular networks enable high data rates and efficient network access. However, the stochastic nature of high mobility vehicular networks creates challenges in ad-hoc communication and efficient route selection. We believe that pro-actively identifying the connectivity between two communicating devices can help in efficient route selection for higher successful message delivery. In this paper, we design a comprehensive dataset using OpenStreetMap and SUMO traffic trace to evaluate three major machine learning techniques on high mobility vehicles. Our results identified that the random forest classification method outperforms logistic regression and support vector machine in terms of accuracy and F1-score metrics.

Critical Factors for Acceptance of Social Commerce: A Case Study in Oman

Murtaza FAROOQUE,Shahrazad ALMARHOON,Shamma ALHARIZI,Aref MOHAMMED 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.5

The study aims to assess the acceptance of social commerce and participate in social commerce amongst Omani people. The questions of the survey Instrument were prepared in English later converted into Arabic. The survey instrument was having two parts; the first part sought the demographic information like age, gender, education, occupation etc. The second part of the instrument was related to the variables, which was in 5-point Likert scale, where 5 means strongly agree while 1 meaning strongly disagree. The data was collected using online and offline surveys, making the number of the valid responses to 478. A conceptual model was developed using the following variables. The selected variables such as “Familiarity” (F), “Trust” (T), “Perceived usefulness” (PU), “Perceived ease of use” (PEU), “Intention to Purchase” (IP). The hypothesis was tested using structural equation modelling. The results indicate that all six hypotheses were supported. The F, T and PEU, and PU was found to be positive and significant related to intention to purchase (p-value 0.003, 0.001, 0.000. & 0.007). Amongst the four, p value of F was found to be the lowest and PU was found to be the highest. This indicate F was strong indicator of IP as compared to others. PUE relates to PU, and F was related to IP.

      • Social C-RAN: Novel Futuristic Paradigm for Next-Generation Cellular Networks

Kumbhar, Farooque Hassan,Singh, Sukhdeep,Saxena, Navrati,Roy, Abhishek Informa UK (TaylorFrancis) 2018 IETE technical review Vol.35 No.3

Progressive growth of smartphones and number of users in the network demands for increase in network capacity. Proliferation in network capacity in turn triggers the problems like increase in Capital and Operational Expenditures (CAPEX/OPEX), decrease in Quality of Services (QoS), inflation in power consumption and the like. To cater the aforementioned network challenges, Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) is introduced with the capability of centralization, virtualization and co-ordination. The commercialization of C-RAN further faces problems like dynamic resource allocation environment, co-operative transmission and reception techniques, interconnection and management of base band unit (BBU) instances in a BBU pool, etc. Therefore, the social paradigm when blended with C-RAN, the evolved C-RAN, i.e. Social C-RAN, promises to overcome the challenges of C-RAN. We contribute a fresh novel proposal of Social C-RAN in which network elements will be connected with the help of social relationships and properties they exhibit. Our quantitative results show that the vision of social layer introduced in the C-RAN architecture automates several functions like handover, frequency assignment, dynamic resource allocation and results in reducing communication delays in various applications. We select the potential applications that play a major role in evolving cellular networks and discuss the possibilities to optimize these applications further using our proposed Social C-RAN architecture.

      • Convergence of WSN and cognitive cellular network using maximum frequency reuse

        Hassan, Farooque,Roy, Abhishek,Saxena, Navrati IET 2017 IET communications Vol.11 No.5

The exponential increase in wireless sensor network (WSN) applications and devices crave for the communication resources. Regardless of the access mechanism, the unlicensed industrial, scientific and medical spectrum band is insufficient for massive simultaneous connections. On the other hand, the 4G and the emerging 5G cellular networks provide high data rates of 75-300Mbps and 7.5Gbps, respectively. Nevertheless, WSN's extempore inclusion in the cellular network can heavily congest its Random Access Channel (RACH). In this study, the authors investigate a unique concept of maximum frequency reuse in small evolved NodeBs, and subsequently, recommend their deployment in WSN congested areas. They also propose a cognitive radio (CR) algorithm to offload SeNB load over Macrocell. Authors formulate proposed SeNB-based cellular network in an analytical RACH model, where dynamics of SeNB's and Macrocell users are scrutinised. Observations show that the proposed scheme allocates more users with low collision probability. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme imparts a significant increase of 1-3Mbps in downlink throughput and culminate a lift of 2-9Mbps in uplink throughput. The average uplink signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) is also proliferated by approximately 10-15 dB. Moreover, CR-based SeNB's smart offloading outperforms the conventional offloading in terms of downlink and uplink SINR by about 1-3dB.

Reliable Relay: Autonomous Social D2D Paradigm for 5G LoS Communications

        Kumbhar, Farooque Hassan,Saxena, Navrati,Roy, Abhishek IEEE 2017 IEEE communications letters Vol.21 No.7

Next generation 5G networks contemplate to exploit millimeter Wave (mmWave) for a massive increase in data rates but its inherent characteristic of line-of-sight (LoS) brings up the challenge of directional synchronization of transmitters and receivers. In this letter, we propose a fusion of social Internet-of-Things and device-to-device (D2D) communications, shaping social D2D to tackle mmWave LoS challenge using an independent “reliable relay” scheme. We introduce distributed social network of devices and propose social-communication graph formation and autonomous trustworthy relay procedure. Utilizing reliable relay, a non-LoS device can communicate to 5G networks without compromising the contents privacy. Our analysis demonstrates that agile reliable relay substantially improves the capacity gain and data rate and can be an integral part of existing relay selection schemes. NS3-based simulations validate the proliferation in throughput with minimum additional delays.

      • Innovative Windows for Duplicate Detection

Humaira Bano,Farooque Azam 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Software Engineering and Vol.9 No.1

Duplicate detection is the special case of data matching that discovers groups of records within a single database that belong to same real world entity. It is also an inevitable part of data cleansing because duplicate records can strongly influence the results of later data mining or processing. In this process, one record is compared to all other records. Different data representations, formats, terminologies and data entry errors make this task complex. Involvement of heavy volume databases adds more complexity. To reduce comparison of records, indexing algorithms are used that partition the data and perform comparisons with in that partition. Sorted Neighborhood Method (SNM) is a standard indexing algorithm that sorts dataset by using defined “sorting key” and moves fixed size window to compare records within that window. Duplicate Count Strategy-Multi record increase (DCS++) is latest improvement in SNM that adapts the window size for every duplicate in current window. We propose Innovative Windows (Inn Win) algorithm that assumes i) detected duplicate in sorted dataset raises the probability of finding more duplicates in neighborhood ii) Series of consecutive non-duplicates drops the probability of duplicates in neighborhood. Using this concept, it adapts window both for duplicates and non-duplicates and avoids unnecessary comparisons without losing effectiveness. We prove that Inn Win is a better alternative in windowing algorithms.

Neglected Thoraco Lumbar Traumatic Spine Injuries

        Kavin Khatri,Kamran Farooque,Vijay Sharma,Babita Gupta,Shivanand Gamanagatti 대한척추외과학회 2016 Asian Spine Journal Vol.10 No.4

Study Design: Retrospective study. Purpose: To outline the etiology, complications and management difficulties encountered in the management of neglected thoracolumbar spine injuries. Overview of Literature: The English literature describes overlooked diagnosis as the most common cause of neglected spine injuries. However, the reasons differ in developing or under-developed nations. Moreover, there is scarcity of literature about the neglected spinal injuries. Methods: Patients presenting with thoracolumbar traumatic injuries who had not received any form of treatment for more than three weeks were included in the study. The demographic details, operative procedure performed and complications encountered, along with American Spinal Injury Association grade and spinal cord independence measure score recorded on the history sheets were noted. The data were analyzed. Results: Forty patients were included in the study. Inadequate treatment at the first contact hospital (45%) followed by late presentation (38%) and missed injury (17%) were the major etiological factors for the neglected traumatic injuries in the thoracolumbar spine. The most common complications seen in the management of these cases were pressure sores (58%), back pain (57%), urinary tract infection (42%) and residual kyphotic deformity (42%). Conclusions: Management of neglected thoracolumbar injuries is challenging. The delay in presentation should not prevent spine surgeon in proceeding with operative intervention as good results can be expected.

      • Developments of hip joint prostheses with modular stems using finite element method

        Ji-Yong Bae(배지용),Umar Farooque,Kyung-won Lee(이경원),Gyu-Ha Kim(김규하),Jin-Hong Park(박진홍),Insu Jeon(전인수),Taek-Rim Yoon(윤택림) 대한기계학회 2009 대한기계학회 춘추학술대회 Vol.2009 No.11

In this research, for non-invasive THR, a unique type of cementless stem, named as a modular stem, is proposed. It consists of two different parts in a stem which can be joined to and separated from each other. Prototypical models of the stem are fabricated using an acryl-based polymer (Vero white 830) and their geometric suitability is manually examined. The strength of the stem to sustain the applied load is evaluated using the finite element method. Finally, various sizes of actual modular stems with circular or rectangular cross-sections are fabricated using a biocompatible Ti alloy (Ti-6Al-4V).
