The effect of the synthesis route on the grain size and morphology of ZnO/Ag nanocomposite

Fariborz Sharifian Jazi 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2012 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.13 No.5

Ag/ZnO nanocomposite powders have various applications as contact materials. There are some methods for synthesizing them such as chemical vapor deposition (CVD), co-precipitation, spray-pyrolysis, sol-gel, laser ablation and hydrothermal routes. In this study, Ag/ZnO nanocomposite powders have been synthesized by three various co-precipitation techniques. The nanocomposite powders obtained were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), simultaneous thermal analysis (STA), X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The experimental results showed that the size of the nanocomposite samples was in the range of 50-100 nm. Finally, it was found that the optimum route for preparing Ag/ZnO nanocomposite powders was the dropping funnel method.

        Fariborz Mansour-Ghanaei,Makan Pourmasoumi,Amir Hadi,Farahnaz Joukar 한국한의학연구원 2019 Integrative Medicine Research Vol.8 No.1

Background: Several studies reported that curcumin supplementation could improve non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of curcumin/turmeric supplementation on liver enzymes in patients with NAFLD. Methods: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar were systematically searched until December 2017. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) which examined effect of curcumin/turmeric supplementation on NAFLD in adult participants. Main outcome was alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). Potential risks of bias (ROB) were assessed by using Cochrane ROB tool. Results: All included studies showed low ROB in most of item of Cochrane ROB tool. Meta-analysis of 4 randomized controlled trials including 228 subjects showed a trend toward significant reduction of ALT blood concentrations in subgroup with ≥1000 mg/day curcumin supplementation (–11.36 IU/L, 95% CI: –22.75 to 0.02; I2:51%). Meta-analysis showed a significant reduction of AST in studies with 8-weeks administration (–9.22 IU/L, 95% CI: –12.77 to –5.67; I2: 49%). Conclusion: This review suggests that curcumin/turmeric might have a favorable effect on NAFLD in higher dosage. Further high-quality studies with large-scale and higher dosage are warranted.

        Fariborz Amini,Vahid Rakhshan,Maryam Pousti,Hajir Rahimi,Mahsa Shariati,Bahareh Aghamohamadi 대한치과교정학회 2012 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.42 No.3

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the surface roughness (SR) of 2 types of orthodontic archwires made by 4 different manufacturers. Methods: This in vitro experimental study was conducted on 35 specimens of 7 different orthodontic archwires, namely, 1 nickel-titanium (NiTi) archwire each from the manufacturers American Orthodontics, OrthoTechnology, All-Star Orthodontics, and Smart Technology, and 1 stainless steel (SS) archwire each from the manufacturers American Orthodontics, OrthoTechnology, and All-Star Orthodontics. After analyzing the composition of each wire by energydispersive X-ray analysis, the SR of each wire was determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and surface profilometry. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U tests (α < 0.05). Results: The average SR of NiTi wires manufactured by Smart Technology, American Orthodontics, OrthoTechnology, and All-Star Orthodontics were 1,289 ± 915 A˚, 1,378 ± 372 A˚, 2,444 ± 369 A˚, and 5,242 ± 2,832 A˚, respectively. The average SR of SS wires manufactured by All-Star Orthodontics, OrthoTechnology, and American Orthodontics were 710 ± 210 A˚, 1,831 ± 1,156 A˚, and 4,018 ± 2,214 A˚, respectively. Similar to the results of profilometry, the SEM images showed more defects and cracks on the SS wire made by American Orthodontics and the NiTi wire made by All-Star Orthodontics than others. Conclusions: The NiTi wire manufactured by All-Star Orthodontics and the SS wire made by American Orthodontics were the roughest wires.

Naproxen, isosorbide dinitrate and co-administration cannot prevent post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis: Randomized controlled trial

        Fariborz Mansour-Ghanaei,Farahnaz Joukar,Ali Akbar Khalesi,Mohammadreza Naghipour,Masood Sepehrimanesh,Kourosh Mojtahedi,Sara Yeganeh,Hamid Saeidi Saedi,Saba Fakhrieh Asl 한국간담췌외과학회 2020 Annals of hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery Vol.24 No.3

Backgrounds/Aims: Acute pancreatitis is the most widespread complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Here, we investigated the efficacy of rectal suppository naproxen, sublingual isosorbide dinitrate and their co-administration in the prevention of post-ERCP pancreatitis. Methods: This double-blind randomized clinical trial carried out from June 2015 to February 2016 at the Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases Research Center in Rasht, Iran. A total of 585 patients were selected from candidates for diagnostic or therapeutic ERCP by using the simple sampling method. Patients divided into three groups. Group A received 500 mg naproxen, group B took 5 mg isosorbide dinitrate, and group C was co-administrated both agents before ERCP. The primary outcome measure was the development of pancreatitis onset of pain in the upper abdomen and increase of serum amylase activity more than 3 times over the upper normal limit (60-100 IU/L) within first the 24 h post-ERCP. Results: Totally, 80 patients developed PEP included 29 (4.9%), 24 (4.1%), and 27 (4.6%) patients in groups A, B, and C, respectively (p=0.845). Longer ERCP time (p=0.041), using diazepam (p=0.033), a higher number of pancreatic ducts cannulation (p<0.001), pancreatic duct injection (p=0.013), and using pancreatic stent (p=0.004) were the predisposing factors for PEP. Conclusions: Our findings indicated that prophylactic naproxen suppository or isosorbide dinitrate sublingually or co-administration had no significant difference in the prevention and severity of PEP, however, enhancing the endoscopist’s skills can be effective. Departments and educational hospitals should develop their assessment and quality assurance measures for the training of fellows’ not only technical training but also an understanding of the diagnostic and therapeutic roles of the procedure.

ENHANCEMENT MECHANISM OF NANOSTRUCTURE FORSTERITE FORMATION RATE BY MECHANICAL ACTIVATION AND AMMONIUM CHLORIDE

        FARIBORZ TAVANGARIAN,RAHMATOLLAH EMADI 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2011 NANO Vol.6 No.2

The single-phase nanostructure forsterite powder was successfully synthesized by mechanical activation of talc and magnesium carbonate powder mixture followed by annealing in the presence and absence of ammonium chloride. Mechanical activation was used as an efficient method for the optimization of powder properties by means of combination and uttermost homogenization of the powder mass. Besides, the presence of chlorine ion affected the forsterite formation rate via producing smaller particle size during subsequent annealing which is very important in the case of diffusion-controlled reactions. The single-phase nanostructure forsterite powder with crystallite size of about 36 nm was successfully synthesized by 10 h mechanical activation with subsequent annealing at 1000°C for 1 h. While in the presence of chlorine ion, the single-phase nanostructure forsterite powder with crystallite size of about 20 nm could be obtained by 5 h of mechanical activation with subsequent annealing at 1000°C for 2 min.

Repairing the Surface Grooves of St37 Structural Steel Using Flame Spray Welding

Fariborz Amiri,Keyvan Seyedi Niaki,Seyed Ebrahim Vahdat 한국정밀공학회 2017 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.18 No.12

In today’s industry, preventive measures for the preservation and repair of devices and equipment are extremely important. Various welding methods are used for repairing the surface crack of metal pieces in order to improve their mechanical properties and increase their useful life. In the present study, the performance of flame spray welding using pure iron powder is evaluated in repairing the surface grooves of St37 structural steel. First, five groups of specimen (one control group and four grooved steel groups with 0.5 mm groove tip, 10 mm length and 0.5, 0.8, 1 and 1.3 mm groove depths) were prepared. Then, the repair was performed. The results showed that after repairing the surface groove via flame spray welding using pure iron powder, the tensile strength and yield strength of the repaired specimens with the groove depths of 0.5 and 0.8 mm were achieved to control ones, but the elongation was decreased, which was still acceptable for engineering applications (module of toughness of 74.2 MJ) for the repaired specimen with the groove depth of 0.5 mm.

      • Comparative Investigation of Single Voxel Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Dynamic Contrast Enhancement MR Imaging in Differentiation of Benign and Malignant Breast Lesions in a Sample of Iranian Women

Faeghi, Fariborz,Baniasadipour, Banafsheh,Jalalshokouhi, Jalal Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.18

Purpose: To make a comparison of single voxel magnetic resonance spectroscopy (SV-MRS) and dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE) MRI for differentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions in a sample of Iranian women. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 women with abnormal breast lesions detected in mammography, ultrasound, or clinical breast exam were examined with DCE and SV-MRS. tCho (total choline) resonance in MRS spectra was qualitatively evaluated and detection of a visible tCho peak at 3.2 ppm was defined as a positive finding for malignancy. Different types of DCE curves were persistent (type 1), plateau (type 2), and washout (type 3). At first, lesions were classified according to choline findings and types of DCE curve, finally being compared to pathological results as the standard reference. Results: this study included 19 patients with malignant lesions and 11 patients with benign ones. While 63.6 % of benign lesions (7 of 11) showed type 1 DCE curves and 36.4% (4 of 11) showed type 2, 57.9% (11of 19) of malignant lesions were type 3 and 42.1% (8 of 19) type 2. Choline peaks were detected in 18 of 19 malignant lesions and in 3 of 11 benign counterparts. 1 malignant and 8 benign cases did not show any visible resonance at 3.2 ppm so SV-MRS featured 94.7% sensitivity, 72.7 % specificity and 86.7% accuracy. Conclusions: The present findings indicate that a combined approach using MRS and DCE MRI can improve the specificity of MRI for differentiation of benign and malignant breast lesions.

A Simplified Frequency Model for Industrial Common-Mode Chocks Used in High-Power Converters

Seyed Fariborz Zarei,Saeed Khankalantary 한국전자파학회JEES 2021 Journal of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science Vol.21 No.1

This paper proposes a simplified analytical model for electromagnetic interference (EMI) filters used in high-power converters. Highpower converters produce radio frequency conducted noise because they use high-frequency switching in the range of a few ㎑ to tens of ㎑. The noise propagates into the power grid, which disturbs the functionality of the radio frequency apparatuses. Well-known standards, such as CISPR, provide the measurement and assessment methodologies for these devices. Moreover, the emission level of the noise is restricted at the source side. Using EMI filters is the most effective approach for dealing with this issue. However, due to the nonlinear nature of the common-mode (CM) cores, the modeling of the cores is a complicated task, which makes the selection and design of the filters less than optimal. In this paper, an analytical modeling of the CM filters is provided to suit the nonlinear frequency-dependent behavior of the CM cores. The simplicity of the proposed model makes it a very suitable choice for inclusion in the design procedures, which results in a more accurate and optimum filter selection among the many available commercial industrial filters. To validate the proposed model, the frequency-dependent model obtained is verified by experimental tests with a commercial CM choke. According to the results, the proposed model accurately describes the actual EMI filter behavior.

Evaluation of a Dietary Organic Selenium Supplement at Different Dietary Protein Concentrations on Growth Performance, Body Composition and Antioxidative Status of Broilers Reared under Heat Stress

Khajali, Fariborz,Raei, Ali,Aghaei, Ali,Qujeq, Dordi Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2010 Animal Bioscience Vol.23 No.4

Three hundred chicks were randomly assigned among four treatments to evaluate the effect of an organic selenium supplement at various levels of dietary protein. Two levels of supplemental selenium (0 and 0.3 mg/kg) from zinc-L-selenomethionine were tested at two levels of dietary protein (normal and reduced) in a completely randomized design with $2{\times}2$ factorial layout. The experiment lasted up to 49 d of age during which all birds were exposed to $31{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. The effects of selenium or its interaction with CP on growth performance and carcass characteristics were not significant. However, feeding the reduced-CP diet decreased weight gain in the starting period and increased liver and abdominal fat weights relative to body weight. Ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) was not significantly affected by dietary CP and Se or their interaction though FRAP values were numerically higher in the Se-supplemented group. Dietary CP content did not affect the activity of plasma glutathione peroxidase (GSHPx), though Se significantly elevated plasma GSHPx activity. The interaction of CP and Se was not significant for FRAP and plasma GSHPx activity.

Probiotics in Drinking Water Alleviate Stress of Induced Molting in Feed-deprived Laying Hens

Khajali, Fariborz,Karimi, S.,Qujeq, D. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2008 Animal Bioscience Vol.21 No.8

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the physiological changes of laying hens subjected to feed removal during induced molting while received probiotics in the drinking water. Post-molt performance and egg quality criteria were also studied. Ninety 78-week-old Hy-line W36 laying hens were divided into two treatment groups according to equal body weight and subjected to induced molting by continuous feed removal until around 30% BW reduction. The experiment lasted 12 wks consisting of 4-wk molting and 8-wk post-molt periods. Treatment 1 received no probiotics and was considered as the control. Treatment 2 was similar to the control except that hens received probiotics in the drinking water at 400 mg/L during feed deprivation. The results indicated that hens in both groups went out of production by Day 5. However, hens received probiotics reached 5 and 50% egg production sooner than the control (30 and 52 days vs. 31 and 54 days). Starvation during molting increased heterophil to lymphocyte (H/L) ratio, hematocrit and plasma T4 and $Na^+$ levels while plasma T3 and Cl- levels were decreased. Probiotics had no significant impact on BW reduction during molt. Post-molt egg production and egg mass were higher in hens which previously received probiotics, but these responses were not significant. However, feed conversion ratio was significantly better in hens which received probiotics. Hematocrit, plasma thyroid hormone concentrations (T3 and T4) and plasma $Na^+$, $K^+$ and Cl- levels during molting were not significantly influenced by supplementation of probiotics. However, H/L ratio showed a significant (p<0.05) reduction in birds which received probiotics suggesting beneficial effects of this product for feed-deprived laying hens. No significant difference was observed in post-molt egg quality criteria.
