        온라인플랫폼과 ‘소셜 번역’ - 토마스 멜레의 『등 뒤의 세상』 번역에서 살펴본 소통의 문제

        이 연구는 토마스 멜레의 자전적 소설 『등 뒤의 세상』에서 소통의 문제를 살펴보는 한편이 책의 번역과정에 온라인플랫폼을 활용한 독일문화원의 프로젝트 ‘소셜 번역’을 통해 소통의 확장 가능성을 검토한다. 멜레의 소설은 작가의 언어세계를 지배하는 양극성 장애로 인해 독일어 내부에서도 이미 여러 층위의 번역과정이 필요한 텍스트이다. 따라서 소통 불가능의 상황이 작품의 주제가 되는 이 작품은 소통의 본질적인 문제를 다루기에 적절하다. 또한 이 작품은 ‘소셜 번역’이라는 독일문화원 프로젝트를 통해 아시아권 언어로 번역되었는데, 번역자들은 렉토리라는 온라인플랫폼에서 번역의 과정을 공유함으로써 새로운 소통의 현실을 체험하게 된다. 렉토리는 더 나아가 인쇄문화를 상징하는 독일의 레클람 출판사와 협업을 통해 e-book의 확장 형태로 독자를 만나고 있다. 본 연구는 한 작가에게 탄생한 책이 번역되고 출판되어 독자를 만나는 과정에 온라인플랫폼이라는 새로운 기술이 개입함으로써 소통의 새로운 층위가 생성되고 있음을 분석했다. 그리고 기술은 소통을 확장하지만, 상호 소통의 지점에서 독자는 새로운 역할을 위임받는다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. Die Welt im Rücken ist ein Roman, den der Autor Thomas Melle schrieb, der seit Jahren an der manisch-depressiven Erkrankung, auch biopolare Störung genannt, leidet. Diese Arbeit behandelt zuerst die Problemarik der Kommunikationsstörungen in Melles Roman. Dann wird untersucht, inwieweit das Projekt des Social Translating Projekt auf Internetplattformen die Kommunikation zwischen den Übersetzerinnen und Übersetzern verbessert. Das Social Translating Projekt wurde 2018 vom Goethe-Institut Korea in der Partnerschaft mit Merck entwickelt. Thomas Melle sowie Übersetzerinnen und Übersetzern aus 10 asiatischen Ländern treffen sich auf einer Onlineplattform namens Lecroty und erproben ‘eine neue soziale Praxis der literarischen Übersetzens’. In Kooperation mit der Onlineplattform Lectory bietet auch der deutsche Verlag Reclam Klassensätze an. Die vorliegende Arbeit überprüpft auf der einen Seite die Ergänzungs- und Erweiterungsmöglichkeit der gedrukten Textausgabe und thematisiert andererseits das interaktive Lesen, bei dem die Leserinnen und Leser eine neue Rolle übernehmen.

        Developing an English Speaking Placement Test for Low-level College Students

        The purpose of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of the Novice Speakers` English Language Test (NSELT) as a placement test in order to place low-level Korean college students into required general English courses at a university. The study also investigated the appropriateness of the current placement method of using the students` English grades on the College Scholastic Aptitude Test (CSAT) and high school English records (HSER). The data from 133 first year students` CSAT and HSER grades were analyzed and the placement results were compared with their satisfaction surveys and English grades. The next semester, native English instructors` decisions were used for the placement compared with the students` English grades as well as their satisfaction survey results. Finally, the NSELT, a face-to-face interview form, was developed based on a needs analysis survey with 133 students. 72 of them took the test. The results indicated that the first placement method was inappropriate and the native instructors` decisions were highly correlated with the NSELT scores. The students were highly satisfied with the test delivery form and results of the new speaking test. Finally, the effectiveness of the NSELT as a placement test was discussed and implications were suggested.

        Bach2 deficiency leads autoreactive B cells to produce IgG autoantibodies and induce lupus through a T cell-dependent extrafollicular pathway

        Class-switched IgG autoantibodies but not unswitched IgM autoantibodies play a crucial role in the development of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Bach2 is known to be essential for class switch recombination of Ig genes, but recent genomic and clinical studies have suggested an association of Bach2 deficiency with SLE. This study was undertaken to examine the mechanism by which Bach2 regulates the development of SLE. Despite defects in Ig class switch recombination and germinal center formation when actively immunized, Bach2−/− mice spontaneously accumulated IgG autoantibody-secreting cells without germinal center reactions in a regulatory T cell-independent manner, and this phenomenon was accompanied by manifestations akin to SLE. Transcriptome analyses revealed that Bach2 regulated the expression of genes related to germinal center formation and SLE pathogenesis in B cells. B cellspecific deletion of Bach2 was sufficient to impair the development of germinal center B cells but insufficient to promote the production of IgG autoantibodies. Bach2 deficiency caused CD4+ T cells to overexpress Icos and differentiate into extrafollicular helper T cells in a cell-autonomous manner. These findings suggest that Bach2deficient autoreactive B cells preferentially react at extrafollicular sites to give rise to IgG class-switched pathogenic plasma cells and that this effect requires the help of Bach2-Icoshi helper T cells. Thus, the cell-autonomous roles of Bach2 in B cells and in their cognate CD4+ T cells are required to maintain self-tolerance against SLE.

        Bach2 represses the AP-1-driven induction of interleukin-2 gene transcription in CD4<sup>+</sup> T cells

        The transcription repressor Bach2 has been proposed as a regulator of T cell quiescence, but the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. Given the importance of interleukin-2 in T cell activation, we investigated whether Bach2 is a component of the network of factors that regulates interleukin-2 expression. In primary and transformed CD4+ T cells, Bach2 overexpression counteracted T cell receptor/CD28- or PMA/ionomycin-driven induction of interleukin-2 expression, and silencing of Bach2 had the opposite effect. Luciferase and chromatin immunoprecipitation assays revealed that Bach2 binds to multiple Maf-recognition element-like sites on the interleukin-2 proximal promoter in a manner competitive with AP-1, and thereby represses AP-1-driven induction of interleukin-2 transcription. Thus, this study demonstrates that Bach2 is a direct repressor of the interleukin-2 gene in CD4+ T cells during the immediate early phase of AP-driven activation, thereby playing an important role in the maintenance of immune quiescence in the steady state.         Palladium-Catalyzed Decarboxylative Homodimerization of Propiolic Acids: Synthesis of 1,3-Enynes

        The 1,3-enyne product was obtained as a result of a decarboxylative homodimerization reaction when a variety aryl propiolic acids were reacted in the presence of Pd(TFA)2/i-PrPPh2 and K2CO3. It was found that aryl propiolic acids bearing an electrondonating substituent provided the desired product; however, aryl propiolic acids an bearing electron-withdrawing substituent did not give the desired product.

        Analytical Calculation of Jitter Probability Density at Multistage Output Buffers Due to Supply Voltage Fluctuations

        <P>The jitter probability density function (PDF) at multistage output buffers due to supply voltage fluctuations is analytically derived. For experimental validation, an integrated circuit (IC) is designed, fabricated, and assembled in a printed circuit board (PCB). The on-chip supply voltage fluctuations are extracted from the simultaneous measurements at the pads on IC and PCB and used to calculate the jitter PDF of the multistage buffers. Also, characteristics of the output channels are measured and modeled with the separately designed channel pattern. Finally, the jitter PDFs for multistage buffers are calculated and compared with the measured jitter histograms.</P>

      • FREE GIFT FOR CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE IN RESTAURANTS: EFFECTS OF TIMING OF GIFT OFFERS AND CONSUMPTION OCCASIONS

        This study is to examine how different timing of free gifts (pre-informed vs. surprise) under different consumption occasions (ordinary vs. special) independently and/or together affect consumers’ affective (overall utility) and attitudinal (satisfaction) evaluations of dining service experiences. According to utility theory (Kahneman, Wakker & Sarin, 1997), an individual’s final choice is determined by his/her evaluation of utility which refers to the experience of feelings and emotions in response to a service. Anticipated utility occurs before a purchase or an actual event; experienced utility occurs during the event. In examining the customers’ dining experiences in conjunction with free gift timing and a consumption occasion, this study focuses on anticipated and experienced utility. Two hypotheses are proposed: H1. Consumption occasions moderate the effect of timing of free gift offer on overall utility and satisfaction with the service experience in a restaurant dining environment. Specifically, on a special (vs. ordinary) consumption occasion, surprise (vs. pre-informed) free gifts increase consumer’s overall utility about and satisfaction with restaurant service experience. H2. Overall utility mediates the interactive effects of free gifts and consumption occasions on satisfaction with restaurant service. Data were gathered using a web-based experiment with a 2(free gift: surprise vs. pre-informed) x 2 (consumption occasion: special vs. ordinary) between-subject design. As a result, both H1 and H2 are supported. Participants dining at a restaurant for a special occasion had higher overall utility about their restaurant service experience when they received free gifts as a surprise as opposed to pre-informed gifts. On the other hand, participants who dined on ordinary occasions perceived an overall utility of the restaurant service to a greater extent when they received pre-informed free gifts than surprising gifts. The results indicated that it is important to consider the strategic timing of complimentary gifts to enhance customer experiences. Moreover, this study found that overall utility mediates the effect of free gifts on satisfaction only under special consumption occasions. In special occasions, participants who receive free gifts elicit affective emotions and then, they are satisfied with the restaurant service, but participants under ordinary occasions are directly satisfied with the service through free gifts.
