The objective of this study was to examine the effect of caffeine and sodium bicarbonate in a fertilization medium on the fertilizability of boar spermatozoa that were frozen in straws. Boar spermatozoa were extended with Beltsville F5 extender and frozen in 0.25‐ml straws. In vitro matured porcine oocytes were fertilized in vitro (IVF) with frozen‐thawed boar spermatozoa for 6 h in a modified tris‐buffered medium (mTBM) or in its modified medium by substituting the tris with 25 mM sodium bicarbonate (modified bicarbonate‐buffered medium; mBBM). Some of inseminated oocytes were fixed and stained for examination of sperm penetration. IVF embryos were cultured in a North Carolina State University‐23 medium for embryo development. The percentage of live sperm was 47±4% and morphological abnormality of acrosome was found in 14±3% of spermatozoa. Optimal sperm concentration for IVF was 0.75~1.0×106 sperms/ml when mTBM containing 5 mM caffeine was used as the fertilization medium. Sperm penetration was significantly (p<0.05) stimulated by increasing caffeine concentration in the IVF medium. In addition, mBBM significantly (p<0.05) increased sperm penetration (92%) compared to mTBM (65%). More (p<0.05) blastocysts (22% vs. 32%) developed from the oocytes that were fertilized in mBBM containing 1 mM caffeine than from those fertilized in mTBM with 5 mM caffeine. Our results indicate that boar spermatozoa can be frozen successfully in straws with holding their normal fertilizability and that caffeine and sodium bicarbonate stimulates sperm penetration in vitro.

Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in electric vehicles, electronic devices, and energy storage systems owing to their high energy density, long life, and outstanding performance. However, various internal and external factors affect the battery performance, leading to deterioration and ageing. Accurately estimating the state of health (SOH), state of charge (SOC), and remaining useful life (RUL) of batteries is challenging owing to complex operating characteristics and changing internal physical parameters. With the increasing availability of shared battery data and improved computer performance, the use of data-driven methods for battery health estimations and RUL predictions has gained popularity. We provide a comprehensive review of several studies in which data-driven methods were used for SOC and SOH estimation and RUL prediction. Specifically, we focus on the importance of open battery-cycling databases, various prediction methods used, and results obtained using each of these methods. Moreover, we aim to facilitate further research by providing a comprehensive description of the current state-of-the-art methods employed in battery health estimation and RUL prediction using open databases and machine-learning algorithms. Thus, we hope that this review will help researchers to develop accurate and reliable predictive models for battery health assessment in the future.

Nursing Experience of Pediatric Oncology Nurse
Eunsong LEE 한국간호과학회 2021 한국간호과학회 학술대회 Vol.2021 No.10
Aim(s): The purpose of this study was tried to understand the nature of nursing experiences and meaning structure of the nurses in the ward for pediatric cancer, moreover to seek their supporting plans. Method(s): This study were explored by phenomenological analytic method suggested by Colaizzi. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with 14 nurses who applied to participate in this study among those who had worked for more than a year in the ward for pediatric cancer, and the data were collected from January to March 2021. Result(s): The analysis produced 5 categories: ‘Fear and expectation that felt upon meeting the pediatric cancer patient at the first time,’ ‘Marginal situation of nursing,’ ‘Emotional difficulty felt in nursing,’ ‘Firming up as the nurse in the ward for pediatric cancer,’ and ‘Realizing the meaning and value as the nurse in the ward for pediatric cancer and positioning.’ Conclusion(s): These results can present a vivid evidences base the understand the meaning and value of nursing of the nurses in the ward for pediatric cancer in detail. According to the results, Nurses in the ward for pediatric cancer sought rewarding and meaning that nursing pediatric cancer patients is for the hope of the future and they became firm as the nurses in the ward for pediatric cancer. Further studies of this subject can prove contribute to prepare the basic interventions for training, supporting plans, and management interventions of the nurses who take care of pediatric cancer patients.
