Anxiety Sensitivity and Quality of Life in Patients with Acne

( Ersoy Acer ),( Ali Ercan Altınoz ),( Hilal Kaya Erdogan ),( Esra Agaoglu ),( Nihan Yuksel Canakcı ),( Zeynep Nurhan Saracoglu ) 대한피부과학회 2019 Annals of Dermatology Vol.31 No.4

Background: Anxiety sensitivity (AS) is a continuous fundamental fear and defined as extreme fear of anxiety sensations and symptoms. High AS can cause tendency to anxiety disorders. There are many studies evaluating the anxiety in patients with acne; however, AS has not been investigated. Objective: We aimed to investigate AS in patients with acne. Methods: Two hundred and fourteen acne patients and 117 healthy control subjects, aged older than 16 years were enrolled in the study. Severity of acne was evaluated by Global Acne Grading System. The acne patients and healthy controls were asked to complete the anxiety sensitivity index-3 (ASI-3), the Beck anxiety inventory (BAI) and the Turkish version of acne quality of life index. Results: Anxiety and AS levels in acne patients were significantly higher than healthy controls (p<0.001). Quality of life was impaired in acne patients. Quality of life was negatively correlated with anxiety and AS levels in acne patients (p=0.014, p=0.019, respectively). There was no correlation between quality of life and disease severity (p=0.556) and also there was no correlation between psychiatric scale scores (ASI-3, BAI) and disease severity (p=0.147, p=0.871, respectively). Conclusion: To our knowledge, our study is the first to report that AS is high in acne patients. Clinically, our results suggest that there might be a relationship between AS and acne. We conclude that further studies are needed in order to clarify the relationship between acne and AS and to investigate the efficacy of cognitive behavioral treatments in acne patients. Design and Application of a Single Phase Multilevel Inverter Suitable for using as a Voltage Harmonic Source

        Ersoy Beser,Birol Arifoglu,Sabri Camur,Esra Kandemir Beser 전력전자학회 2010 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.10 No.2

This paper presents a single phase multilevel inverter for using as a voltage harmonic source. First, a single phase multilevel inverter system is presented and the structural parts of the inverter are described. In order to obtain multilevel output voltage waveforms, a switching strategy based on calculating switching angles is explained and an improved formula for determining switching angles is given. Simulation and experimental results of multilevel voltage waveforms are given for 15, 31 and 127 levels. The proposed topology does not only produce output voltages with low THD values. It also produces the required harmonic components on the output voltage. For this purpose, equations for switching angles are constituted and the switching functions are obtained. These angles control the output voltage as well as provide the required specific harmonics. The proposed inverter structure is simulated for various functions with the required harmonic components. The THD values of the output voltage waves are calculated. The simulated functions are also realized by the proposed inverter structure. By using a harmonic analyzer, the harmonic spectrums, which belong to the output voltage forms, are found and the THD values are measured. Simulation and experimental results are given for the specific functions. The proposed topology produces perfectly suitable results for obtaining the specific harmonic components. Therefore, it is possible to use the structure as a voltage harmonic source in various applications.

Investigation of the Leaky-Wave Characteristics of a Cylindrical Dielectric Rod Using the Coefficient Matrix of the System of Characteristic Equations and Davidenko’s Method

Ersoy Kelebekler 한국전자파학회JEES 2021 Journal of Electromagnetic Engineering and Science Vol.21 No.3

An open dielectric waveguide includes both guided propagating modes within the waveguide and radiating and evanescent modes that propagate transversely outside the waveguide. In this study, the leaky-wave characteristics of a cylindrical dielectric rod are investigated using the coefficient matrix of the system of characteristic equations and Davidenko’s method. Using the coefficient matrix of the system of characteristic equations simplified the derivative(s) required to use Davidenko’s method. The results obtained for a 10-mm radius structure with a relative dielectric constant of 4 showed that a second antenna mode region existed for higher-order hybrid HE modes and lower-order transverse magnetic (TM) modes. However, it did not exist for transverse electric (TE) modes. Additionally, the hybrid HE modes had larger leaky-wave spectrum and antenna mode regions than both the TE and TM modes. This demonstrates that for antenna applications, hybrid HE modes supply a wider frequency spectrum.

Effect of seasonal changes on nutritional status and biochemical parameters in Turkish older adults

        Ersoy, Nesli,Tasci, Ilker,Ozgurtas, Taner,Salih, Bekir,Doruk, Huseyin,Rakicioglu, Neslisah The Korean Nutrition Society 2018 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.12 No.4

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Available data suggest that seasonal changes may influence the nutritional status and overall health of elderly individuals. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the effects of seasonal changes and related factors on energy and nutrient intake of older adults. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Individuals aged 65 years or over were prospectively enrolled in this single-center study (male: 11, female: 20). Data were collected between May 2013 and February 2014 during winter, spring, summer and autumn. Food consumption and biochemical parameters were taken during each season to assess the seasonal nutrition status of the elderly. Upon analysis of biochemical parameters (retinol, vitamin D and vitamin C), an high-performance liquid chromatography device was utilized whereas an Immulite 2000 device was utilized during analysis of serum folic acid and parathyroid hormone. RESULTS: Fruit, fat, egg and bread consumption varied seasonally in males and females (P < 0.05). During winter, daily energy intake was found to be greater than in other seasons in males (557 kcal) and females (330 kcal) (P < 0.05). Additionally, carbohydrates, vegetable protein, n-3 fatty acid and sodium intake increased in winter, while the n-6/n-3 ratio increased in summer among males (P < 0.05). Dietary fiber and sodium intake in winter, vitamin C, iron and zinc intake in spring, and cholesterol, retinol, vitamin D and niacin intake in autumn were found to be higher in females when compared to other seasons (P < 0.05). Serum parathyroid hormone level was higher in winter, and vitamin D level was higher in autumn in both genders (P < 0.05). In males, blood folic acid level was higher in winter, while vitamin C level was higher in females, and there was no seasonal variation in retinol concentration (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Food consumption and biochemical parameters showed significant seasonal variations in older adults. It is not clear if nutrition plans in older adults will benefit from consideration of seasonal changes in eating habits.

Design and Application of a Photovoltaic Array Simulator with Partial Shading Capability

Ersoy Beser 전력전자학회 2019 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.19 No.5

PV system performance is dependent on different irradiations and temperature values in addition to the capability of the employed PV inverter/ maximum power point tracker (MPPT) circuit or algorithm. Therefore, it would be appropriate to use a PV simulator capable of producing identical repeatable conditions regardless of the weather to evaluate the performance of inverter/ MPPT circuits and algorithms. In accordance with this purpose, a photovoltaic (PV) array simulator is presented in this paper. The simulator is designed to generate current-voltage (I-V) and power-voltage (P-V) curves of a PV panel. Series connected cascaded modules constitute the basic part of the simulator. This feature also allows for the modeling of PV arrays since the number of modules can be increased and high voltage values can be reached with the simulator. In addition, the curves obtained at the simulator output become similar to the actual curves of sample PV panels with an increase in the number of modules. In order to show the validity of the proposed simulator, it was simulated for various situations such as panels under full irradiance and partial shading conditions. After completing simulations, experiments were realized to support the simulation study. Both simulation and experimental results show that the proposed simulator will be very useful for researchers to carry out PV studies under laboratory conditions.

Free vibration of circular and annular membranes with varying density by the method of discrete singular convolution

        Ersoy, Hakan,Ozpolat, Lutfiye,Civalek, Omer Techno-Press 2009 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.32 No.5

A numerical method is developed to investigate the effects of some geometric parameters and density variation on frequency characteristics of the circular and annular membranes with varying density. The discrete singular convolution method based on regularized Shannon's delta kernel is applied to obtain the frequency parameter. The obtained results have been compared with the analytical and numerical results of other researchers, which showed well agreement.

Diagnostic difficulties by the unusual presentations in children and adolescents with Hashimoto thyroiditis

        Betül Ersoy,Kiremitçi Yılmaz Seniha,Deniz Kızılay,Münevver Yılmaz,Şenol Coşkun 대한소아내분비학회 2016 Annals of Pediatirc Endocrinology & Metabolism Vol.21 No.3

Complex clinical presentation with diverse timing of particular symptoms may cause diagnostic difficulties, especially in children and adolescents. This paper presents diagnostic difficulties and pitfalls in 3 children with acquired primary hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT) presenting with unusual manifestations. We described 3 children with acquired primary hypothyroidism due to HT. One of our patients had musculoskeletal pain and was diagnosed and treated as having connective tissue disease. Another patient presented with chest pain, dyspnea, and swelling in the abdomen. She had a massive pericardial effusion (PE). Two patients had severe growth failure. A third patient with Down syndrome had a small PE. Her complaint was dyspnea during sleep. All patients improved with thyroxin therapy. Patients with hypothyroidism due to HT who have complicated clinical manifestations were misdiagnosed and mismanaged at childhood and adolescence. Growth failure is an important sign in children and adolescents. In the presence of complicated manifestations in children and adolescents, thyroid dysfunction must be considered in differential diagnosis.

      • A wireless monitoring system for monocrystalline PV system

        Kelebekler, Ersoy,Ergun, Riza Emre Techno-Press 2020 Advances in energy research Vol.7 No.2

Photovoltaic systems are progressively attached importance and their installed capacity increases day by day because of their reliability, decremented installation and operating cost and simple construction structure. Generated power obtained from a photovoltaic system changes depending upon regional distinctness, and It can be estimated approximately by taking into consideration mean global radiation amount, temperature and humidity. However, there may be different regional negative or positive factors like dust, air pollution, desert powder which affect generated power. The best reliable data for a region can be obtained from the existing photovoltaic system in the region. For this purpose, a monitoring system for 1000W monocrystalline photovoltaic system constructed at Kocaeli University Uzunciftlik Nuh Cimento Vocational High Scholl is prepared. The installed monitoring system shows and records real values generated from the photovoltaic system and environmental data. In the study, Instantaneous data obtained from the monitoring system for October 2018 and 7th October 2018 is given within figures. Additionally, daily and monthly total energy productions of the photovoltaic system are given for October 2018 and date interval between July 2018 and March 2018, respectively.
