        Determination of Essential Mineral Concentrations in Some Turkish Teas and the Effect of Lemon Addition

        Essential elemental concentrations of Turkishblack, green, and earl grey tea infusions were determinedwith and without added lemon. Daily percentage elementalintake values from these 3 teas with and without lemonaddition were calculated based on Recommended DietaryAllowances (RDA). Calcium (Ca), cobalt (Co), copper(Cu), iron (Fe), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), sodium(Na), selenium (Se), and zinc (Zn) concentrations wereincreased after lemon addition. The chromium (Cr)concentration was decreased in green and earl grey teasand increased in black tea after lemon addition. Themanganese (Mn) concentration was increased in green teaand decreased in black and earl grey teas after lemonaddition. The phosphorus (P) concentration was increasedin earl grey and green teas, and decreased in black tea afterlemon addition. The daily intake value of Mn was foundabove the RDA value.

        Development and evaluation of a multiplex PCR assay for simultaneous detection of Flavobacterium psychrophilum, Yersinia ruckeri and Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida in culture fisheries

        Bacterial cold water disease, enteric red mouth disease and frunculosis are the common bacterial diseases of fish worldwide. The etiologic agents of these diseases are Flavobacterium (F.) psychrophilum, Yersinia (Y.) ruckeri and Aeromonas (A.) salmonicida subsp. salmonicida, respectively. In this study, a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (m-PCR)method with YER8/10-Fer3/4-FP1/3 primer pairs which can identify these fish pathogens simultaneously was developed and optimized. In optimized conditions, neither false specific nor nonspecific amplification occurred. The detection limits of the m-PCR method using DNA extracts from dilutions of pure cultures of bacteria were 35 pg for Y. ruckeri and F. psychrophilum and 70 pg for A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida. It was determined that 15 CFU Y. ruckeri and F. psychrophilum and 30 CFU A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida could be detected by m-PCR developed using genomic DNA extracted from dilutions of the suspensions. The detection limits in the presence of tissue debris were 125 CFU for Y. ruckeri and F. psychrophilum and 250 CFU for A. salmonicida subsp. salmonicida. In conclusion, we submit that the m-PCR method developed and optimized in this study can be used for accurate and rapid identification of these bacteria.

        박물관에서 재현된 도시정체성

        오늘날 도시들은 지구화시대를 맞아 지구적 연결망의 일부로 변화하면서 생태환경 및 주거환경, 교통체계, 행정체계 등에서 다른 도시들과 유사해지고 있다. 동시에 도시들은 그 자체의 문화적 뿌리와 독특성을 유지해야 하는 갈등적인 상황에 직면해 있다. 부르사도 터키의 경제적으로 역동적인 도시들의 하나이며 지구적으로 경쟁력있는 도시가 되고자 노력하고 있다. 오스만제국의 첫 수도였던 부르사는 1950년대 이후 이주자들이 급증함으로써, 지역정체성을 구성하고 이를 시민들에게 효율적으로 전파하고 공유하도록 촉진하는 것이 지역정부의 가장 중요한 기획들중의 하나가 되었다. 이 기획은 부르사의 원래 주민들과 이주자들을 결합하고 공통의 시민의식을 함양함으로써 장기적으로 지역의 불안정과 갈등을 방지하기 위한 일이었다. 이러한 시민의식함양 사업에서 역사에 관한 집합기억을 형성하고 전달하는 기구로서 부르사시립박물관은 지역정체성의 공유와 귀속감 증진에 상당히 긍정적으로 기여하였다. 그렇지만 그 이면에서는 사실상, 세계자본주의체제 속의 한지역으로서 독특성의 유지가 쉽지 않다는 현실적인 제약에 더하여 여러 수준에서의 사회적 분리와 단절에 무지하고 사회적 다양성을 배제하는 부정적 결과도 수반하였다. 또한 국가주의적 이데올로기의 확장과 강화를 초래하였다. 사회적 다원성과 차이를 강조하는 탈근대적 조건을 고려하면 여러 문화들이 조우하고 타협적으로 교류하는 지역정체성의 구성과 이를 위한 박물관의 기획을 강조할 필요가 있다. Today, with globalization, cities are competing to take a place among many other cities in the world as part of a global network and becoming similar to each other in their green and dwelling area arrangements, transportation systems and municipal managements. At the same time, they face a conflictive situation in which they have to protect their uniqueness and cultural roots. Bursa, the fourth biggest city of Turkey, is economically a very dynamic city and tries to assure that the city is globally competent. Being the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, Bursa has received significant number of migrants from other cities of Turkey and Balkans after 1950s. Therefore one of the policies of the local authority is to promote the consciousness of Bursalı (to belong to Bursa), an important and unifying factor to increase and ease social inclusion. Bursa Metropolitan City Museum has been played a significant role in constructing the city identity through “urban citizenship awareness project” carried out by the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, transferring it to people by developing a sense of belonging to the city. However, Bursa has observed that it is hard to protect its uniqueness under the constraints of world-capitalist system. Moreover, city identity project has missed to identify variety of segregation in the society and approaching them all equally. Besides it produces a result of expansion and reinforcement of the nationalist ideology. In the postmodern world, where social diversity and differences are emphasized, it is important to reconstruct the city identity in which encounter of various cultures and interaction can take place.

        Production and microwave electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of polyaniline-La2Ti2O7:Er,Yb composites

        In this research, La2Ti2O7 doped with erbium-ytterbium was produced by using solid state technique. A series of compoundswith the chemical equation (La1−x−yREx−y)2Ti2O7 were doped with (Er3+, x = 0.025, 0.050 ) and (Yb3+ y = 0.02 ) rare earth ionsprepared by conventional solid state reaction method at 1350 oC for 24 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronmicroscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were carried out for the structural analysis, which showedthat second phase did not form in (La1−x−yREx−y)2Ti2O7. Additionally, the polyaniline- erbium, ytterbium doped La2Ti2O7composites were fabricated via hot pressing using the compositions of (La0.955Yb0.02Er0.025)2Ti2O7, (La0.93Yb0.02Er0.05)2Ti2O7 andaniline. The weight ratios of erbium-ytterbium doped lanthanum titanate and aniline were 1:1 and 1:3 respectively, and epoxyresin was utilized to develop microwave shielding effectiveness composites. The microwave shielding effectiveness performancesof polyaniline- La2Ti2O7: erbium-ytterbium composites were examined by shielding effect in 0-8 GHz using two-port vectornetwork analyzer. A minimum of - 34.37 dB shielding effect performance was obtained in 6.27 GHz at the thickness of 2.0 mm. This shielding effect performance can be adjusted easily by managing the content of polyaniline in the composites for theneeded frequency bands.

        Endotoxin of Porphyromonas gingivalis amplifies the inflammatory response in hyperglycemia-induced zebrafish through a mechanism involving chitinase-like protein YKL-40 analogs

        Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis), a key pathogen in periodontal diseases, is also associated with hyperglycemiaassociated systemic diseases, including diabetes mellitus (DM). Gingipains are the most important endotoxins of P. gingivalis, and in vivo studies using gingipains are scarce. Zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a vertebrate with high physiological and genetic homology with humans that has multiple co-orthologs for human genes, including inflammation-related proteins. The aim of our study was to determine the effects of gingipain in a hyperglycemia-induced zebrafish model by evaluating inflammation, oxidant-antioxidant status, and the cholinergic system. Adult zebrafish were grouped into the control group (C), hyperglycemia-induced group subjected to 15 days of overfeeding (OF), gingipain-injected group (GP), and gingipain-injected hyperglycemic group (OF + GP). At the end of 15 days, an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed, and fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels were measured. Lipid peroxidation (LPO), nitric oxide (NO), glutathione (GSH), glutathione S-transferase, catalase, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and sialic acid (SA) levels were determined spectrophotometrically in the hepatopancreas. The expression levels of tnf-⍺, il-1β, ins, crp, and the acute phase protein YKL-40 analogs chia.5 and chia.6 were evaluated by RT‒PCR. After two weeks of overfeeding, significantly increased weight gain, FBG, and OGTT confirmed that the zebrafish were hyperglycemic. Increased oxidative stress, inflammation, and AChE and ALP activities were observed in both the overfeeding and GP groups. Amplification of inflammation and oxidative stress was evident in the OF + GP group through increased expression of crp, il-1β, chia.5, and chia.6 and increased LPO and NO levels. Our results support the role of gingipains in the increased inflammatory response in hyperglycemia-associated diseases.

        Omalizumab as a Succesfull Therapy in Normocomplementemic Urticarial Vasculitis: A Series of Four Patients and Review of the Literature

        Urticarial vasculitis is an eruption characterized by inflamed itchy or painful red papules or plaques that resemble urticaria but last longer than 24 hours and heal with residual pigmentation or purpura. Histopathologically, urticarial vasculitis presents as leukocytoclastic vasculitis with perivascular infiltrate and fibrin deposits. The treatment options are oral antihistamines, oral corticosteroids, dapsone, colchicine and hydroxychloroquine. We report four cases with normocomplementemic urticarial vasculitis who were treated with omalizumab and a brief review of the literature on the use of omalizumab in normocomplementemic urticarial vasculitis.         The Association between Whole Blood Viscosity and Coronary Collateral Circulation in Patients with Chronic Total Occlusion

        Background and Objectives: Coronary collateral circulation (CCC) has been attributed as inborn bypass mechanisms supporting ischemic myocardium. Various factors have been postulated in CCC. Whole blood viscosity (WBV) has been an underappreciated entity despite close relationships between multiple cardiovascular diseases. WBV can be calculated with a validated equation from hematocrit and total plasma protein levels for a low and high shear rate. On the grounds, we aimed to evaluate the association between WBV and CCC in patients with chronic total occlusion. Subjects and Methods: A total of 371 patients diagnosed as having at least one major, chronic total occluded coronary artery were included. 197 patients with good CCC (Rentrop 2 and 3) composed the patient group. The poor collateral group consisted of 174 patients (Rentrop grade 0 and 1). Results: Patients with poor CCC had higher WBV values for a low-shear rate (LSR) (69.5±8.7 vs. 60.1±9.8, p<0.001) and high-shear rate (HSR) (17.0±2.0 vs. 16.4±1.8, p<0.001) than the good collateral group. Correlation analysis demonstrated a significant negative correlation between the grade of CCC and WBV for LSR (β=0.597, p<0.001) and HSR (β=0.494, p<0.001). WBV for LSR (β=0.476, p<0.001) and HSR (β=0.407, p<0.001) had a significant correlation with the synergy between percutaneous coronary intervention with taxus and cardiac surgery (SYNTAX) score. A multivariate analysis showed that the WBV for both shear rates were independent risk factors of poor CCC (WBV at LSR, OR: 1.362 CI 95%: 1.095-1.741 p<0.001 and WBV at HSR, 1.251 CI 95%: 1.180-1.347 p<0.001). Conclusion: WBV has been demonstrated as the overlooked predictor of poor coronary collateralization. WBV seemed to be associated with microvascular perfusion and angiogenesis process impairing CCC development
