      • VDT 작업자의 작업관련성 근골격계장애 : 일반 대조군과의 비교연구 Comparison with control groups

        A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the prevalence of the work-related musculoskeletal disorders(WRMSD) among employees using video display terminals. The study included 113 female telecommunication employees from three companies and control groups of housewives and office ladies. Information on demographics, individual factors were obtained by self-administered questionnaire. Cases of WRMSD were defined as one or more symptoms(e.g. pain, aching, stiffness, burning, numbness, or tingling) in one of the four upper extremity joint area(nect, shoulder, elbow, hand/wrist) which lasted more than 1 weeks or occurred at least once a month within the past year. Shoulder symptoms(71.7%) were the most frequently reported during the current week, followed by neck(68.1%), hand and wrist(60.2), and elbow symptoms(31.9%) in VDT operators. But in housewives and office ladies, the symptom prevalence was much lower than VDT operators for each location. Neck symptoms were correlated with the level of education and shoulder symptoms were correlated with the location of office. This results suggest of high prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders of the upper extremities among VDT workers.

        An Empirical Study of Qualities of Association Rules from a Statistical View Point

        Minimum support and confidence have been used as criteria for generating association rules in all association rule mining algorithms. These criteria have their natural appeals, such as simplicity; few researchers have suspected the quality of generated rules. In this paper, we examine the rules from a more rigorous point of view by conducting statistical tests. Specifically, we use contingency tables and chi-square test to analyze the data. Experimental results show that one third of the association rules derived based on the support and confidence criteria are not significant, that is, the antecedent and consequent of the rules are not correlated. It indicates that minimum support and minimum confidence do not provide adequate discovery of meaningful associations. The chi-square test can be considered as an enhancement or an alternative solution.

        Federalizing the Education Gospel, 1945-2010

        This paper explores the changing nature of federalism in US national discourse around education in the six decades after World War II. Three major forces catapulted education onto the national stage in the immediate post-WW 2 era: the mass spread of broadcast culture, especially television; the civil rights movement; and the Cold War. The federalizing of education encouraged politicians and others to argue that schools could solve the nation’s greatest challenges. But neither that federalization nor the hopeful assumptions of policymakers were inevitable. Instead, the path of federal education politics has been contingent on complex, multilevel dynamics of education discourse, a political dynamic of federalism that extends beyond any formal constitutional relationships between state and federal government.

        How to Improve U.S.-China Relations in the Wake of CNOOC

        The increasingly confrontational approach the U.S. Congress is taking toward China, as witnessed by the surge of anti-China legislation and by the excessive politicization of the proposed merger between CNOOC Ltd., a subsidiary of state-owned China National Offshore Oil Company, and Unocal is leading to "creeping protectionism," often in the guise of protecting U.S. national security. Although it is proper to criticize China for its human rights violations and its lack of a transparent legal system, we should not ignore the substantial progress China has made since it embarked on economic liberalization in 1978. A policy of engagement. or what Hu Jintao, president of the People`s Republic of China, calls "peaceful development". -is a necessary condition for constructive U.S.-China relations. Although China`s competitiveness does pose a threat to certain U.S. economic interests, it also benefits American consumers and exporters. Protectionism would harm both the United States and China and would increase the likelihood of conflict. Hardliners would gain at the expense of more reasonable voices. To avert the risk of conflict, the United States needs to treat China as a normal great power, not as an adversary, and ensure that only those commercial transactions that genuinely threaten national security are blocked.

      • The Evolution of the Use of Force in Peacekeeping

        The use of force is a continuing dilemma for UN peacekeeping missions and for the troop-contributing countries. How to use force while not becoming party to a conflict? This paper provides a chronological review of the UN’s operational experience in the use and non-use of force, showing the benefits and drawbacks of both. It highlights the period of crisis in the mid-1990s, when the UN could not summon the political will or the means to use the required force in the face of crises in Bosnia, Somalia and Rwanda. But, after absorbing these painful lessons, the United Nations showed in the new century it could use force in Sierra Leone, D.R. Congo, Haiti, and the Central African Republic. In all of the Africa cases, attack helicopters played a major role in robust peacekeeping. The helicopters not only provide mobility for rapid access, but also protection, close air support, a deterrent and a unique force multiplier. As such, they earn the designation of ‘key enabler’ - one that the United Nations is chronically short of and which warrants further provision and support from Member States. This paper provides insights into the diverse challenges, expectations and requirements for use of force. At the same time, it discusses the concerns caused by the shift to peace enforcement. This paradigm shift must be handled well if the United Nations is to move from a reactive to a pro-active approach and to make a long overdue shift from postconflict stabilization to the prevention of conflict.

        2015 개정 중등 미술교과서의 사진단원 분석을 통한 사진교육에 대한 고찰

        본 연구는 2015 개정 미술과 교육과정이 적용된 중ㆍ고등학교 미술 교과서에서 사진교육 단원을 단원명, 학습 목표, 주요 내용을 중심으로 분류하고 분석하였다. 이를 바탕으로 현재 우리 미술교육에서의 사진교육에 대해 고찰하고 미술교육에서 사진교육의 질적 성장을 도모할 수 있는 논의점을 유추하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 파악된 중등 미술교과서에서의 사진교육은 사진을 미술 표현의 방법 혹은 매체로 활용하여 본질주의적 관점의 미술교육의 도구로 활용하고 있다는 점이다. 이는 상대적으로 비판적 관점의 사진교육에 관한 확장적 논의가 필요함을 인식하게 한다. 또한 본 연구에서는 영상의 한 형식으로써 사진, 사진 표현 방법에 관한 검토, 반복적 사진교육 내용 구성이라는 추가적 고려점이 파악되었다. 이러한 관점과 고려점은 미술교육에서의 사진교육의 한계임과 동시에 발전적 방안을 유추해 낼 수 있는 기제로써 작용한다. 향후 우리의 미술교육에서는 이를 사진교육의 질적 성장과 새로운 방향성을 형성할 수 있는 계기로 삼아야 할 것이다. This study classified and analyzed the photography education unit in the middle school and high school art textbooks, which adopted the 2015 revised art education curriculum, based on the unit title, learning objectives and main contents. Based on this, the paper aimed at studying photography in current art education and drawing key focuses of its qualitative advancement. Photography education in the middle school and high school art textbooks analyzed in this study uses photographs as the method or the form of art expression, making it as the tool of art education from the essentialist perspective. This makes us to recognize the necessity of extensive discussions on photography education from a relatively critical viewpoint. Additional consideration points of photography in art education discovered through this study are photographs as one form of video, review of expression methods of photographs, and repetitive composition of photography education contents. Such viewpoint and considerations work as a limitation of photography in art education and a mechanism to infer a progressive method at the same time. In future, art education of Korea must use this as an opportunity of learning a lesson from negatives to form qualitative development and a new direction photography education in art education.
