Vol.41 No.-

Seu Young-hae (徐嶺海, 1902-1956?) was an independent activist and education activist who was active in France starting with the 3.1 independence movement. As a result, Seu Young-hae’s life was divided into four categories. First, as a first student who was born in Busan and spent school days through Seodang (書堂) and school. Second, as a second student who completed all of the French regular education courses up to education. Third, he established a Korean news agency in Paris to fulfill the mission of the French correspondent of the provisional government and to write an independent activist to write about the history and tradition of Korea. Fourth, after Independence, she moved to Korea, made French teaching materials in Seoul, and taught French. The educational significance that we looked at based on this life is as follows. First, solidifying the foundation, second, walking the right process, third, for humanity, and fourth, living a life of practice.

      • Micromechanical analysis on fiber reinforced polymer composites produced by an injection molding process

Short fiber reinforced composites inherently have fiber length distribution (FLD) and fiber orientation distribution (FOD), which are important factors in determining thermo-mechanical properties of the composites. Since the internal structure has a significant effect on the thermomechanical properties of the composites, a non-destructive method is highly required to observe the three dimensional structure of fillers to acquire FLD and FOD in the composites. The internal structure of the composites is observed by using an X-ray microtomography and the FLD and FOD are fitted to various statistical functions to model the thermo-mechanical properties of the composites. The flowability of molten polymer composites is evaluated experimentally and numerically to evaluate the role of inclusions on rheological properties and processability of the composites. We also investigate the microstructural anisotropy of fiber reinforced polymer composites to understand the relationship between the local anisotropy and the mechanical strength of the composites. A shrinkage inhibition concept for the composites is proposed to explain the shrinkage behavior before and after an annealing process by using the Mori-Tanaka models. In addition, we visually represent the microstructural anisotropy of the polymer composites based on the Mori-Tanaka approach.

Imaging of Human Walking Behind the Obstacle Utilizing Pulsed Radar Technique in the C‑Band for Military Surveillance Applications

        Doojin Lee,George Shaker,William Melek 대한전기학회 2020 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.15 No.3

This paper presents the applied pulsed radar signal processing which works in the C-band for imaging of walking human responses behind the wooden wall and foliage environment for military monitoring applications. The overall scenario of this work has been theoretically modelled to provide an insight into the interaction between the pulsed radar system and the surrounding environment. The experiment of this work has been performed under the (1) wooden wall and (2) foliage environment for the purpose of a preliminary study. Considering that there have been many types of research have been done utilizing UWB with a lower center frequency, this work mainly focuses on proposing a series of the pulsed radar signal processing worked in unique C-band for extracting the walking human response from other refections associated with clutters. The three-dimensional images of walking human have been fnally reconstructed in 20 dB scale under the wooden wall and foliage environment.

      • Intraday Price Formation and Bid-Ask Spread Components : A New Approach Using a Cross-Market Model

Vol.2010 No.11

This study examines the intraday formation process of transaction prices and bid-ask spreads in the KOSPI200 futures market. By extending the structural model of Madhavan, Richardson, and Roomans (1997), we develop a unique cross-market model that can decompose spread components and explain intraday price formation for the futures market by using order flow information from the KOSPI200 options market, a market that is not only closely related to the futures market but also considered to be one of the most remarkable options market in the world. The results indicate that the model-implied spread and the permanent components of the spread resulting from informed trading tend to be underestimated without the inclusion of options market indicators. Further, the empirical results imply that trades of in-the-money (ITM) options, which have high delta values, generally incur a more adverse information cost component (the permanent component) of the futures market than those of out-of-the-money (OTM) options, which have relatively low delta values.

Antioxidant and Anti-Adipogenic Activities of Trapa japonica Shell Extract Cultivated in Korea

DooJin Lee,Ok-Hwan Lee,Geunpyo Choi,Jong Dai Kim 한국식품영양과학회 2017 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.22 No.4

Trapa japonica shell contains phenolic compounds such as tannins. Studies regarding the antioxidant and anti-adipogenic effects of Trapa japonica shell cultivated in Korea are still unclear. Antioxidant and anti-adipogenic activities were measured by in vitro assays such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazy (DPPH) radical scavenging activity, 2,2’-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activity, ferric reducing ability of plasma assay, reducing power, superoxide dismutase-like activity, and iron chelating ability in 3T3-L1 cells. We also measured the total phenol and flavonoids contents (TPC and TFC, respectively) in Trapa japonica shell extract. Our results show that TPC and TFC of Trapa japonica shell extract were 157.7±0.70 mg gallic acid equivalents/g and 25.0±1.95 mg quercetin equivalents/g, respectively. Trapa japonica shell extract showed strong antioxidant activities in a dose-dependent manner in DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities and other methods. Especially, the whole antioxidant activity test of Trapa japonica shell extract exhibited higher levels than that of butylated hydroxytoluene as a positive control. Furthermore, Trapa japonica shell extract inhibited lipid accumulation and reactive oxygen species production during the differentiation of 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. Trapa japonica shell extract possessed a significant antioxidant and anti-adipogenic property, which suggests its potential as a natural functional food ingredient.

      • Pricing Kernel-Based Option Valuation Approach : A New Perspective

Vol.2011 No.09

This study examines the empirical performance of three model-based option valuation approaches in the KOSPI200 options market. We evaluate the in-sample pricing, out-of-sample pricing and hedging performance of the approaches based on the specification of option pricing models directly (a pricing model-based approach), on the pricing kernels implied by the option pricing models (an implied pricing kernel-based approach), and on parametric pricing kernels which are independently structured to have their own explicit functional forms (a parametric pricing kernel-based approach). Two option pricing models, a GARCH option pricing model and a Black-Scholes (BS) option pricing model, and their implied pricing kernels are analyzed and two parametric pricing kernel specifications suggested by Rosenberg and Engle (2002) are compared in a unified framework which extends the GARCH process of Duan (1995) to reflect the dynamics of asymmetric volatility. We find that the empirical performance of the approaches related to the GARCH and Black-Scholes option pricing models is moderately improved when we estimate the structural parameters using options data (options-based estimation) compared to the model performances when estimating the parameters using only a time-series of underlying returns data (underlying returns-based estimation). With the estimates under the underlying returns-based estimation, the pricing modelbased option valuation approach outperforms the implied pricing kernel-based option valuation approach for both the GARCH and BS option pricing models. However, with the estimates under the options-based estimation, this relationship is reversed in pricing OTM options in the case of the GARCH option pricing model. Although the BS option pricing model is generally the worst performer with the estimates under the underlying returns-based estimation, it yields better performance for pricing ITM options and similar performance for hedging compared to the GARCH option pricing model with the estimates under the options-based estimation. The option valuation approach based on the parametric pricing kernel of which functional form is a Chebyshev polynomial performs best out of all approaches and methods considered in this study

Computational Investigation of Seakeeping Performance of a Surfaced Submarine in Regular Waves

Vol.36 No.5

A submarine is optimized to operate below the water surface because it spends most of its time in a submerged condition. However, the performance in free surface conditions is also important because it is unavoidable for port departure and arrival. Generally, potential flow theory is used for seakeeping analysis of a surface ship and is known for excellent numerical accuracy. In the case of a submarine, the accuracy of potential theory is high underwater but is low in free surface conditions because of the nonlinearity near the free surface area. In this study, the seakeeping performance of a Canadian Victoria Class submarine in regular waves was investigated to improve the numerical accuracy in free surface conditions by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The results were compared to those of model tests. In addition, the potential theory software Hydrostar developed by Bureau Veritas was also used for seakeeping performance to compare with CFD results. From the calculation results, it was found that the seakeeping analysis by using CFD gives good results compared with those of potential theory. In conclusion, seakeeping analysis based on CFD can be a good solution for estimating the seakeeping performance of submarines in free surface conditions.

Vol.2019 No.6

The GDI(Gasoline Direct Injection) engine needs to reduce emissions because emission standards has been strengthened recently(Eg. EURO6). For compling with new emission standards, the multi-injection of fuel method is commonly used in the GDI engine. However, a short injection time causes deviation of the fuel injection quantity and this deviation reduces the efficiency of fine dust emission. This paper suggest a new fuel injector driver IC which reduces fine dust emissions through a new injector deviation compensation algorithm. The main designed concept is monitoring injector closing time and compensating the quantity of fuel injection by the proposed GDI injector driver IC.
