In this paper, we propose 5 D.O.F robot hand for an android robot. A robot hand is the most complicated part in robot and it required many functions like grasping, detailed motion and so on. An android robot is one of humanoid robot but it required more similar appearance than one of humanoid robot thus, a hand of an android robot is required human like shape more than a hand of humanoid robot. The hand of android needs human like shape and complication, therefore it is difficult to develop a hand of an android robot. In this research, we develop a hand of an android robot which has 5 D.O.F fingers, human like shape and skin. Each finger has link structure driven by DC motor and worm gear. The finger is designed independent module structure so, hand is only combination of finger modules. This module structure gives small size, easy modification and convenience of maintenance. The skin is made of silicon complex material and it designed based on real human hand. The size of this hand based on standard size of Korean woman.

Background: Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious viral disease in livestock that has tremendous economic impact nationally. After multiple FMD outbreaks, the South Korean government implemented a vaccination policy for efficient disease control. However, during active surveillance by quarantine authorities, pig farms have reported an insufficient antibody positivity rate to FMD. Objective: In this study, the spatial and temporal trends of insufficiency among pig farms were analyzed, and the effect of the number of government veterinary officers was explored as a potential preventive factor. Methods: Various data were acquired, including national-level surveillance data for antibody insufficiency from the Korea Animal Health Integrated System, the number of veterinary officers, and the number of local pig farms. Temporal and geographical descriptive analyses were conducted to overview spatial and temporal trends. Additionally, logistic regression models were employed to investigate the association between the number of officers per pig farm with antibody insufficiency. Spatial cluster analysis was conducted to detect spatial clusters. Results: The results showed that the incidence of insufficiency tended to decrease in recent years (odds ratio [OR], 0.803; 95% confidence interval [95% CIs], 0.721–0.893), and regions with a higher density of governmental veterinary officers (OR, 0.942; 95% CIs, 0.918–0.965) were associated with a lower incidence. Conclusions: This study implies that previously conducted national interventions would be effective, and the quality of government-provided veterinary care could play an important role in addressing the insufficient positivity rate of antibodies.
Validation of a New In-vehicle Control Interface Using Eye- and Head-tracking Systems

Objective: This paper demonstrates a new in-vehicle control interface using “wheel-gestures” that is expected to reduce distraction while driving. Background: According to the American Automobile Association (2006), one of the most common distractions while driving is manipulating music/audio controls. Operations of such in-vehicle functionality require one or more of visual, auditory, biomechanical, or cognitive attention from the driver. Method: Fifteen subjects participated in a simulated driving experiment conducted to compare the usability and effectiveness of the wheel-gesture control interface with a conventional button-dial control interface. The participants’ visual distractions were tracked via eye-tracking and head-tracking systems while driving and operating in-vehicle functionality. Results: The head-tracking data in the pitch, yaw, and roll directions indicated that the wheel-gesture control interface allows the participants to maintain their head faced more forward and up than the conventional interface (p = 0.001, p = 0.0161, and p = 0.006, respectively). Although the spatial eye-tracking data did not show a statistically significant difference between the two interfaces, the dwell time and fixations, as characterized by temporal eye-tracking data, were different (p = 0.003 and p = 0.001). Conclusion: Thus, our wheel-gesture control interface can potentially reduce distraction while driving, resulting in improved driver performance such as better speed maintenance and lane keeping. Application: A new in-vehicle interface using non-conventional control methods can help drivers operate vehicles more safely. However, potential cognitive distractions by using the non-conventional control should be investigated as well.
Construction of composite comparative genetic maps for ten legume species

The legume family is the third largest group, including approximately 650 genera and 18,000 species, in the flowering plants and the second important crops to the Poaceae in the agricultural economy. Comparative analysis is a useful tool to understand cross-species genomic structure and alterations during organism’s evolutionary history. In this study, we constructed a composite comparative map of ten legume species, including Medicago truncatula, Medicago sativa, Lens culinaris, Pisum sativum, Lotus japonicus, Cicer arietinum, Vicia faba L, Vigna radiata, Phaseolus vulgaris and Glycine max. Of these species, M. truncatula, which is a representative model system, played a central role to develop the cross-genome amplifiable PCR gene markers for the purpose of transferring them to other related legume species. A total of 108 cross-species core markers were employed to analyze genomic colinearity across this broad array of legume species. The comparative map demonstrates a diverse array of evolutionary events, such as duplications, inversions and reciprocal translocations. It is anticipated that resulting maps would provide a broader insights into the lineage-specific genomic organization of these glalegoid/phaseoloid legumes, which are two clades containing almost all crop legumes of economic importance, and can further used for the molecular breeding through translating genomic information into other orphan legumes.
