A Ten-year Bibliometric Analysis of Research Trends in Three Leading Ecology Journals during 2003-2012

Saravanan, G.,Dominic, J. Korea Institute of Science and Technology Informat 2014 Journal of Information Science Theory and Practice Vol.2 No.3

This paper attempts to highlight quantitatively the growth and development of literature in the field of ecology in terms of publication output using the resource Web of Science$^{(R)}$. The focus of this analysis was to study the literature on ecology published in three journals, viz., Ecology Letters, Trends in Ecology & Evolution, and Annual Review of Ecology Evolution and Systematics. 2946 records were retrieved for 10 years (2003-2012). The study revealed that multiple authorship in the field with collaborations of two (30.31%) and three authors (19.89%) was dominant. The Degree of collaboration, Collaborative coefficient, and Collaborative index were calculated and the applicability of Lotka's law was tested. The study identified five-year patterns in research trends, using the three studied journals, to see if the subjects of focus changed within a decade. The most productive institution was University Calif. Davis, USA, followed by University Calif. Santa Barbara, USA, and University Queensland, Australia, and the most productive countries were the USA followed by UK and Canada.

      • Influence of Occupational Physical Activity on Anthropometric Profile and Body Composition of Bricklayers in Kwara state, Nigeria

Dominic Olufunmilola Leah(Dominic Olufunmilola Leah ),Etchie Aboyowa Omokwa(Etchie Aboyowa Omokwa ),Seidina Iliasu Yakubu(Seidina Iliasu Yakubu ),Niyi-Odumosu Faatihah Adeyinka(Niyi-Odumosu Faatihah A 사피엔시아 2018 Exercise Medicine Vol.2 No.-

Objectives: Optimal amount of muscle and fat mass has been associated with level of physical activity and are basic determinants of individuals’ health, fitness including occupational performance. The study determined the level of occupational physical activity and influence on anthropometrics, body composition and health of bricklayers in Kwara state, Nigeria. Methods: Descriptive correlational design was used. During the study only three bricklaying sites were functional and all the 45 bricklayers who met the inclusion criteria were purposively selected. Standardized instruments: non-elastic anthropometric tape rule, stadiometre and weight scale were used for anthropometric and body composition measurement while Occupational Physical Activity Questionnaire (OPAQ; r = .72) was used to assess work-related physical activity. Pilot test was conducted to confirm calibration and functionality of body composition equipment. Informed consent was sought from the participants with ethical approval obtained from the Institutional board. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS V20.0 with descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation for analyses of body composition and physical activity while inferential statistics of PPMC and t-test were for analysis of hypotheses at a 0.05 alpha level. Results: Participants performed vigorous intensity occupational physical activity expending an average of 2,699.1 MET-min∙wk-1. Occupational physical activity negatively correlated with their body mass index (N = 45, r = -.06, r2 = .36%, p = .05); Waist circumference (N = 45, r = -.083, r2 = .69%, p = .05) and positively correlated with their bicep circumference (N = 45, r = .61, r2 = 37.2%, p = .001) and chest circumference (N = 45, r = .40, r2 = 16%, p = .007). Conclusions: Bricklaying positively influenced body parameters which might induce health and fitness benefits. However, there is need for health promotion intervention for enlightenment and healthy lifestyle practice among bricklayers to improve overall health and fitness.

Carbohydrate Utilization Affects Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. lactis 313 Cell-enveloped-associated Proteinase Production

        Dominic Agyei,Michael K. Danquah 한국생물공학회 2012 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.17 No.4

The effect of different sugars (glucose, glycerol, maltose, galactose and lactose) on cell-membrane-associated proteinase production by Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. lactis 313 (LDL 313) was investigated. The experimental results showed that aside glycerol and galactose, all the other sugars supported high growth levels of LDL 313,with glucose displaying the maximum biomass concentration of 0.85 mg/mL dry cell weight for cells harvested at the mid-exponential phase of ~12 h after inoculation. The specific proteinase yield, a measure of the rate of proteinase production relative to cell wall biosynthesis, was used to evaluate the preferential degree of proteinase metabolism as induced by the consumption of different sugar substrates by LDL 313. It was found that maltose displayed the highest specific proteinase yield of 12.59 U/mg sugar consumed. Further, molecular differences were observed in the SDS electrophoretic profile of cell surface proteins generated for the different carbon substrates. This is a preliminary study which supports the inference that different sugars stimulate the production of different cell-surface proteins with a significant effect on cell proteinase activity.

Laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy for renal cell carcinoma metastasized to ampulla of Vater: A case report and literature review

        Dominic Cheong,Seoung Yoon Rho,Ji Hong Kim,Chang Moo Kang,Woo Jung Lee 한국간담췌외과학회 2018 Annals of hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery Vol.22 No.1

Renal cell carcinoma is the most common primary renal neoplasm in adults. Although renal cell carcinoma is known to spread to unusual sites, the ampulla of Vater is considered a rare site for metastasis. Here we present a case of renal cell carcinoma metastasized to the ampulla of Vater along with literature review. A 62-year-old Korean male had a history of hypertension and right-sided renal cell carcinoma diagnosed in September 2004, for which he underwent right radical nephrectomy in October 2004. The patient eventually underwent laparoscopic pylorus-preserving total pancreaticoduodenectomy in January 2017. The surgery was successful without postoperative complications. Previous studies have shown that surgical resection for solitary metastases of renal cell carcinoma can provide favorable survival rates. Our case report provides evidence that pancreaticoduodenectomy may be a treatment of choice for suitable patients with solitary renal cell carcinoma ampullary metastasis. A minimally invasive approach may result in early recovery of patient to be suitable for subsequent chemotherapy. Further evidence is needed to address the exact role of minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy in renal cell carcinoma metastasized to the ampulla of Vater.

The Architectural Image of the World in Plato’s Timaeus

        Dominic J. O’Meara 한국서양고전학회 2021 西洋古典學硏究 Vol.60 No.3

In Plato’s Timaeus the world is described as the “perceptible image” of the “intelligible” (92c6-7), the image it seems of the intelligible “paradigm” used by the Demiurge (28ab, 29ab, 37c6-d1, 39e1) in making the world. But in what way, precisely, is the world an “image” of the intelligible paradigm? In this paper I would like to approach this question by exploring another image, one used by Plato in describing the making of the world, the image of architectural production. I will describe briefly the main steps in architectural production in Classical Greece, using literary sources (including Plato) and inscriptions from Athens and Delos: the use of paradigms (projects) by architects, the delegation and supervision of work, detailed planning in the building process, the use of prototypes. I will then note how these procedures are found in the story of the making of the world by the Demiurge and will infer the consequences as to what this might tell us about the way in which the world is an image of its intelligible paradigm.

Gods, soldiers, mummies: making Egypt Roman

Dominic Rathbone 한국서양고전학회 2013 西洋古典學硏究 Vol.52 No.-

A much debated topic in the history of the Roman empire is ‘Romanisation’: to what extent, and how and why, life in the western provinces of the Roman empire was influenced by Roman culture. Older studies mostly argued for a deliberate top-down policy; subsequent studies focussed on bottom-up resistance. More recent studies have argued instead for the formation of distinct regional cultures through selective local blending of Roman elements with indigenous developments. It is also recognised that Romanisation affected the eastern provinces too. This paper investigates the case of Egypt in the first century AD. Roman rule did not seek, as often claimed, to undermine traditional Egyptian religion, but supported its temples and priests as an essential part of the state; the Roman ruler, who did not claim to be a pharaoh or even a king, developed a religious aura as a god who was not a god, a sort of Horus on earth. The sharp end of Roman imperialism was soldiers seconded to support administrators and tax-collectors throughout the province; like veterans who settled in Egypt, these soldiers interacted with locals who sought to gain from Roman rule, creating a small but influential nucleus of Roman-influenced behaviour. Meanwhile the new urban elite, which Rome fostered to provide local administrators and taxcollectors, blended traditional Egyptian practices such as mummification with adaptation of Roman habits such as veristic funerary portraits using Roman signs of social status, and developed a new indigenous enthusiasm for worship of Serapis - Isis - Harpokrates. Thus in early Roman Egypt, a distinct provincial culture began to emerge which blended local traditions and developments with Roman influence, both imposed from above and adopted from below, which we are only just beginning to reconstruct.

A Conspectus of Theologies of Religions in Post-Conciliar India -A Historico-Theological Overview from a Roman Catholic Perspective-

Dominic Veliath 신학과사상학회 2010 가톨릭 신학과 사상 Vol.- No.65

The article traces the history of the post-Conciliar scenario in India as regards the approaches towards religions in its broad lines. This issue has been one of the focal points of Indian theology, given the multi-religious context of India. During the early post-Conciliar era, Catholic stances regarding other religions have tended to be largely ecclesiocentric. In course of time there has been a shift to an inclusivistic stance. During the latter part of the period under consideration, there have been attempts on the part of particular Indian scholars to articulate new theological paradigms such as the theocentric and the non-dualistic, which, however, have proved by and large unsuccessful and inadequate, because of some of their unacceptable implications for the Catholic faith. These have been rejected by the Magisterium, especially in the document of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith “Dominus Iesus”. To date, the stance generally accepted seems to be the inclusivistic model―and specifically that of Karl Rahner. The theology of religions in India still retains its “wayfaring” characteristic, situated as it is, between a creed and its quest.
