Fourier transform mid-infrared (Mid-FTIR) spectroscopy in conjunction with multivariate analysis was used to predict the capsaicin content, ascorbic acid, total phenolic compounds, and antioxidant activity of Capsicum annuum L. variety serrano. Two multivariate calibrations, partial least square (PLS), and principal component regression (PCR) were optimized to construct the calibration models. The best models used to quantify the above mentioned compounds were obtained with the PLS algorithm and coefficients of determination ($R^2$) greater than 0.998 as well as a standard error calibration less than 0.098. The results demonstrated that Mid-FTIR spectroscopy in combination with multivariate analysis can be effectively used for to quantify the capsaicin, ascorbic acid, total phenol content, and antioxidant activity of Capsicum annuum var. serrano. Mid-FTIR spectroscopy in combination with multivariate calibration offers rapid, easy sample preparation, is environmentally friendly, and is operationally uncomplicated, demonstrating the significant advantages of the chemometric models compared with conventional methods of analysis.
Coupling of nonlinear models for steel-concrete interaction in structural RC joints
Dominguez, Norberto,Perez-Mota, Jesus Techno-Press 2014 Coupled systems mechanics Vol.3 No.2
When strong seismic forces act on reinforced concrete structures, their beam-column connections are very susceptible to damage during the earthquake event. The aim of this numerical work is to evaluate the influence of the internal steel reinforcement array on the nonlinear response of a RC beam-column connection when it is subjected to strong cyclic loading -as a seismic load. For this, two specimens (extracted from an experimental test of 12 RC beam-column connections reported in literature) were modeled in the Finite Element code FEAP considering different stirrup's arrays. In order to evaluate the nonlinear response of the RC beam-column connection, the 2D model takes into account the nonlinear thermodynamic behavior of each component: for concrete, a damage model is used; for steel reinforcement, it is adopted a classical plasticity model; in the case of the steel-concrete bonding, this one is considered perfect without degradation. At the end, we show a comparison between the experimental test's responses and the numerical results, which includes the distribution of shear stresses and damage inside the concrete core of the beam-column connection; in the other hand, the effects on the connection of a low and high state of confinement are analyzed for all cases.
Development of a Magnetic-field Stimulation System for Cell Cultures in situ
G. Dominguez,S. Arias,Jose L. Reyes,Pablo Rogeli 한국자기학회 2017 Journal of Magnetics Vol.22 No.2
The effects of exposure to an extremely low-frequency magnetic field (25 ㎐ 20G) on animal cells have been studied. In some reports, stimulation was performed for fixed frequency and variations in magnitude; however, animal-cell experiments have established that both parameters play an important role. The present work undertook the modeling, simulation, and development of a uniform-magnetic-field generation system with variable frequency and stimulation intensity (0-60 ㎐, 1-25G) for experimentation with cell cultures in situ. The results showed a coefficient of variation less than 1% of the magnetic-field dispersion at the working volume, which is consistent with the corresponding simulation results demonstrating a uniform magnetic field. On the other hand, long-term tests during the characterization process indicated that increments of only 0.4℃ in the working volume temperature will not be an interfering factor when experiments are carried out in in situ cell cultures.
Influencer Marketing: College Students’ Attitudes on Social Media
Omar Dominguez,Mayra Hernandez,Thomas Lee,Joy Smith,Sua Jeon 전남대학교 생활과학연구소 2019 生活科學硏究 Vol.29 No.1
Influencer marketing is a type of marketing in which respected experts are paid to advertise a product to influence follower attitudes. With the rise of social media use among college students, this study examines the effectiveness of influencer marketing in this market segment. Using data from 150 college students this study empirically examines the use of influencer marketing and the effect on college students’ consumer attitudes on social media. The results indicate that college students’ use of social media is positively associated with elevated consumer attitudes towards brands through influencer marketing. Discussion of these findings, their implications, and limitations are provided in the research.
Real-time Embedded Architecture for improving Pervasive Robot Services
Carlos Dominguez,Houcine Hassan,Alfons Crespo 보안공학연구지원센터 2008 International Journal of Software Engineering and Vol.2 No.1
The integration of embedded real-time control systems with the physical world via sensors and actuators (pervasive computing systems) is creating a nascent infrastructure for a technical, economic and social revolution. Service robots have to execute tasks that have different criticality, flexible timing constraints and variable execution time, because they perform their activities in dynamic and unpredictable environments, they share resources and have to cooperate to fulfill the objectives. The environmental conditions have influence in the variability of the system load. For instance, the computational requirements of recognition tasks are variable and dependent on the number of objects perceived in scenes. To tackle the computational variability of pervasive robots a real-time architecture is proposed in this paper.
Nonlinear modeling of a RC beam-column connection subjected to cyclic loading
Norberto Dominguez,Jesús Pérez-Mota 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2018 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.21 No.3
When reinforced concrete structures are subjected to strong seismic forces, their beam-column connections are very susceptible to be damaged during the earthquake event. Consequently, structural designers try to fit an important quantity of steel reinforcement inside the connection, complicating its construction without a clear justification for this. The aim of this work is to evaluate –and demonstrate- numerically how the quantity and the array of the internal steel reinforcement influences on the nonlinear response of the RC beam-column connection. For this, two specimens (extracted from an experimental test of 12 RC beam-column connections reported in literature) were modeled in the Finite Element code FEAP considering different stirrup’s arrays. The nonlinear response of the RC beam-column connection is evaluated taking into account the nonlinear thermodynamic behavior of each component: a damage model is used for concrete; a classical plasticity model is adopted for steel reinforcement; the steel-concrete bonding is considered perfect without degradation. At the end, the experimental responses obtained in the tests are compared to the numerical results, as well as the distribution of shear stresses and damage inside the concrete core of the beam-column connection, which are analyzed for a low and high state of confinement.

Photocatalysis is an effective technology for the removal of organic pollutants from wastewater. Artificiallight sources are still required for continuous operation, representing a large fraction of the operatingcosts. Thus, energy efficiency becomes a key issue that needs optimization. In this work, the performanceof a novel upgraded Light Emitting Diodes (LED) reactor was studied varying the radiation applied. Theevaluation was based on the degradation yield of the surfactant sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate(SDBS) and on the energy requirement, determined by the parameter ‘‘Electrical Energy per Order’’ (EEO). The best SDBS removal, 94% after 480 min, was attained using 27.5 mW cm 2. Nevertheless, the bestenergy consumption was for 3.22 mW cm 2, with an EEO of 47.5 kW h m 3 order 1. Moreover, thehydroxyl radicals ( OH) generated were quantified and a three-region kinetic model consideringradiation was proposed. 92% of the simulated results fell within [ OH]gen, exp 15% [ OH]gen, exp. Furthermore, a comparison with a 1st generation LED reactor and a Hg lamp reactor was carried out. The lastone showed the highest performance, achieving complete SDBS removal after 360 min; however, its energyrequirement was one order of magnitude higher than that of the upgraded LED reactor.

The preservation of temporal dependencies among a group of processes that exchange continuous media at runtime is a key issue for emerging mobile distributed systems (MDS), such as monitoring of biosignals and interactive multiuser games. Although several works are oriented to satisfy temporal dependencies, most of them are not suitable for MDSs. In general, an MDS is characterized by the absence of global references (e.g. shared memory and wall clock), host mobility, limited processing and storage capabilities in mobile hosts, and limited bandwidth on wireless communication channels. This paper proposes an asymmetric synchronization protocol to be used at runtime in an MDS without using a common reference. One main aspect of our synchronization protocol is that it translates temporal constraints to causal dependencies of the continuous media data as seen by the mobile hosts. We simulate the protocol by considering a cellular network environment and by using MPEG-4 encoders. The simulation results show that our protocol is effective in reducing the synchronization error. In addition, the protocol is efficient in terms of processing and storage costs at the mobile devices, as well as in the overhead attached per message across the wired and wireless channels.
