      • Transnational Justice, Counterpublic Spheres and Alter-Globalization

        Uneven distribution of resources and unequal access to power in the current phase of postcolonial late capitalism has spurred a range of critical discourses globally that has led to the formation of “transnational counterpublic spheres”. These counterpublics facilitate interests of disenfranchised groups to become visible and audible. However, counterpublics are also spheres of power that replicate mechanisms of exclusion. My paper aims to explore, on the one hand, to what extent transnational counterpublic spheres succeed in facilitating resistance and agency, enabling marginalized collectives to find a “voice” in international politics. On the other hand the mechanisms of exclusion will be investigated that obstruct the inclusion of subaltern groups.

        Modified Tricuspid Annular Plane Systolic Excursion for Assessment of Right Ventricular Systolic Function

        BACKGROUND Tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) has become a popular tool for assessing right ventricular (RV) systolic function because of its ease of application. TAPSE using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is limited by alignment with the lateral wall of the RV. Modified TAPSE (m-TAPSE) is a novel method for measuring TAPSE. m-TAPSE is the difference in the ‘apical to lateral tricuspid annulus distance’ during diastole and systole. The aim of the present study was to compare prospectively m-TAPSE with the most commonly used parameter TAPSE and near-gold standard 2D echocardiographic parameter RV fractional area change (RV FAC). METHODS We conducted a prospective observational study of 125 consecutive patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery in a single tertiary care center. Post-anesthetic induction TAPSE was recorded using transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). m-TAPSE was recorded using TEE in the mid-esophageal four-chamber view. RV FAC was also assessed using TEE. m-TAPSE < 16 mm, TAPSE < 16 mm and RV FAC < 35% were taken as cut-offs for RV systolic dysfunction. Correlations were assessed using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) were calculated using 2 × 2 cross table. RESULTS m-TAPSE was significantly correlated with TAPSE (r = 0.797, p < 0.001). Similarly, a significant correlation was observed between m-TAPSE and RV FAC (r = 0.602, p < 0.001). The sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, and accuracy of m-TAPSE were 100%, 98.3%, 80%, 100% and 98.4%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS m-TAPSE correlated well with both RV FAC and TAPSE. Therefore, m-TAPSE can be considered an easily measurable alternative parameter for evaluating RV systolic function in a busy intraoperative setting.

        Prospective F-18 FDOPA PET Imaging Study in Human PD

        Purpose We present the findings of our final prospective study submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for New Drug Application (NDA) approval for the use of 3,4-dihydroxy-6-[18F]fluoro-L-phenylalanine (F-18 FDOPA) positron emission tomography (PET) imaging for Parkinson’s disease (PD). The primary aim was to determine the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values of F-18 FDOPA PET in parkinsonian patients with respect to clinical standard-oftruth (SOT). Secondary outcomes included the inter-rater reliability, and correlation of quantitative measures for PET with dopaminergic status. Methods In 68 parkinsonian subjects, F-18 FDOPA PET scan from 80 to 100 min was acquired following a CT scan. Scan images were presented to one expert in F-18 FDOPA image interpretation and two physicians with prior experience in I-123 FPCIT single-photon emission computed tomography image interpretation. Fifty-six subjects completed the study with a followup for SOT determination. Image readers were blind to the clinical/quantitative data; SOT clinician was blind to the image data. Results For 47 of the 56 patients, SOT was in agreement with the PET scan results. For nine patients, SOT suggested dopaminergic deficit, whereas the imaging showed normal uptake. The specificity and positive predictive values are 91% and 92%, respectively, suggesting high probability that those who test positive by the PET scan truly have dopaminergic degeneration. The sensitivity was 73%. Inter-rater agreement was 0.6–0.8 between the different readers. Conclusion Our prospective study demonstrates high specificity and moderate sensitivity of F-18 FDOPA PET for PD. We received NDA approval in October 2019.

        BiFeO3-based Z scheme photocatalytic systems: Advances, mechanism, and applications

        Hitherto, heed has been paid substantially to concoct potential photocatalysts to counter the issues ofenvironmental degradation and energy crises. Amongst the plethora of photocatalysts, BiFeO3 (BFO)based photocatalysts are blooming as a centre of attraction due to fine chemical stability, and easy extraction. Also owing to a 2.2–2.8 electron volt (eV) narrow bandgap, BFO to has turned into a competent photocatalystfor efficient visible light absorption. So, keeping in mind the advantages of BFO and reviewingprevious reports, the present review offers a deep overview of conventional heterojunctions andadvanced Z-scheme heterojunctions. The main focus of the review is on BFO-based Z-scheme heterojunctionsalong with photocatalytic mechanisms and various applications. The successful construction ofBFO-based Z-scheme heterojunction eliminates drawbacks of bare BFO photocatalysts such as shortlivedcharge carriers, and high recombination rate, and also enhances light absorption of the system asa whole. Because of spatially separated oxidation and reduction sites and efficacious charge migration,BFO-based Z-scheme heterojunctions are proficient contenders among photocatalytic materials. Therefore, BFO-based Z-scheme heterojunctions are aptly used nowadays, in various fields like pollutantdegradation, wastewater treatment, organic synthesis, hydrogen production, and treatment ofantibiotics.

      • A Novel Forgery Detection Mechanism for Sensitive Data

        There are some applications of military and e-commerce networks, where security of transmitted data on unfriendly environment requires more concern as compared to other design issues like power and energy consumption. Data alterations in above mentioned applications can lead to irreparable losses; so to avoid such losses, we have to maintain Data Integrity in the communication network. This paper presents a novel and reliable Hash algorithm which inherits the basic architecture of SHA-1. Performance of proposed technique is compared with existing techniques through statistical test suite for random numbers. Results reveal that the suggested technique is more effective in terms of randomness than the existing algorithms. The proposed technique, thus, finds its applicability in the sensitive data environment.

      • More Reliable Approach for Detecting Data Alterations in Communication Networks

        Security of precious data is the most critical design parameter of a communication network. Applications like online banking and military information exchange requires more concern over security regardless of other design issues like power and energy consumption. Data alterations in some applications can lead to severe irreparable losses. This paper presents a novel and reliable Hash algorithm which inherits the basic architecture of MD5. Performance of proposed technique is compared with existing MD5, SHA-160, SHA-256 and SHA-384 techniques through statistical test suite for random numbers. Results reveal that the suggested technique is more effective in terms of randomness than the MD5, SHA-160, SHA-256 and SHA-384. The proposed technique thus finds its applicability in the sensitive data environment.

        Mahatma Gandhi’s Swadeshi and KimIl-sung’s Juche Ideas in the Era of Globalization: A Comparative Analysis

        The advent ofimperialisminthe modernperiod triggered a wave of self-reliance movements in colonized countries. In India, Mahatma Gandhi promoted the idea of Swadeshi to boycott foreign-made products and supported the growth of indigenous industries in order to gain national independence. In North Korea, Kim Il-sung made the Juche idea a guiding philosophy of the state for autonomous economic development and make the country self-reliant. Although the ideas of Swadeshi and Juche share several similarities, there are also major differences between these two views on self-reliance. Ironically, the overemphasis on self-reliance inthe realm of economic development in both India and North Korea led to poverty and backwardness in these two nations. However, compared to North Korea, India adopted economic liberalization measures in the post-Cold War period, but the Indian Government still aims for achieving self-reliance. Therefore, this article is aneffort to compare andexplainthe ideas of Swadeshi and Juche in the era of globalization and argues that the North Korean regime may have to implement some serious economic reforms for the survival of the country in the coming times
