The laser-interferometer and capacitive displacement sensors were used to increase the resolution of the feedback system for stage used for measuring and processing the system. However, it was difficult to obtain high-resolution measurements, considering the measuring method and structural characteristics. This study developed a inverse magnification type stage to evaluate characteristics. Therefore, we introduced a nano-stage with a magnification mechanism for the position feedback system.

Externally pressurized air journal bearing has been widely used in high-speed spindle system and precision machinery because of its characteristics such as substantially low frictional loss, low heat generation and averaging effect leading better running accuracy. But air journal bearing have a disadvantage of the low load capacity due to the low viscosity. In this paper. The air journal bearing design to overcome the defects of air bearing such as low stiffness and dimping coefficients was investigated theoretically.

In recent years, environmental problems such as noise and ground vibration induced by many kinds of construction and running trains have gained public interest because people desire and require better living life. Running trains are also one of sources of noise and vibrations which may effect adjacent house and have detrimental effects on other structures, sensitive devices and people. Especially domestic animals and fishes are heavily effected from only low levels of vibration. Consequently, the resonable methods for vibration-reducing is adopted. From this point of view, it is desirable to make preliminary analysis to correctly assess potential vibration problems which may arise at the running of train and to provide the valuable data to make an effective counter plan against such ground vibrations. This paper presents the results of measurements of ground vibration on the adjacent soil surface of railway which is running train, and supply valuable data for selection of a suitable vibration-reducing method. The levels of vibration and the attenuations with distance for ground vibrations are also considered.

Wave propagation resulting from the detonation of explosives in the process of rock blasting is a problem of considerable interest. Blasting vibration can cause serious permanent damage to nearby existing structures. Many researches have been carried out in the past to predict the vibration response of a rock mass subjected to explosive detonation. This paper describes the results of the finite element study of the problem, in particular of vibrations induced due to blasting associated with the excavation of underground tunnels. The discussion presented is based on the parametric study of vibration effects on various positions, when the excavation of a tunnels using explosives performed. The primary interest in this investigation is the prediction of the magnitudes of the peak particle velocities experienced at various positions.

This study aimed to identify leaf sheath function through the investigation of effect of removal times and removed number of leaf sheath on growth and flowering in gladiolus. The leaf sheath influenced on the growth and flowering regardless of light condition at early growth stages. When total leaf sheath were removed in early growth stages, flower stalk length and spike length remarkably decreased. Whereas days of flowering were little different by leaf sheath removal. Also when removed numbers of leaf sheath were 1, 2 and 3, the growth and flowering were little different compared to control. But when removed numbers of leaf sheath were 4, flower stalk length decreased above 25㎝ compared to others treatment, spike length and number of flower decreased and stem diameter became thick abnormally.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1997. 99 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 45(45.5%) were PPNG. Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.

This paper proposes a measurement method for the surface of micro-parts by using AFM(Atomic Force Microscope). To this end, two techniques are presented to extend the capacity of AFM. First, the measurement range is extended by using an image matching method based on correlation coefficients. To account for the inaccuracy of the coarse stage implemented in AFM's, the image matching technique is applied to two neighboring images intentionally overlapped with each other. Second, a method to measure the shape of relatively large specimen is presented by using the inherent trigger mechanism due to the atomic force. The proposed method is proved effective through a series of experiments.
공기 정압 저어널 베이링에서 동강성 측정에 관한 실험적 연구

This paper has been presented the dynamic effect by the journal speed, eccentricity and source positions in order to overcome the defects of air bearing such as low stiffness and damping coefficient. Choosing two row sources position of air bearing is different from previous investigations in the side of pressure distribution of air film by the wedge effects. An experimental study was performed to compare theoretical analysis. The dynamic stiffness was measured in actual cutting. It helps predicting of air spindle's characteristic in machining of die more precisely. The results of investigated characteristics was applied to air spindle for high speed milling.

High speed machining of difficult-to-cut materials generates the concentrated thermal frictional damage at the cutting edge of the tool and rapidly decreases the tool life. In this paper, the cutting environments, such as dry, fluid coolant, and compressed chilly air coolant, were investigated to improve the tool life. For this study, the compressed chilly air system was manufactured. The experiments were performed for various diffi-cult-to-cut materials and various coated tools. The effectiveness of the developed methods on the basis of tool life was esti-mated. The results shoes that the cutting environment using compressed chilly air coolant provided better tool life than using the fluid coolant or using the dry.
초음파 진동절삭을 이용한 평면 광도파로와 유리의 미세 홈 가공특성에 관한 연구

Recent years, optical components' are widely used in optical communication industry for high speed and mass storage data processing. Micro grooving of planar lightwave circuit and glass, those are widely used in optical component, are realized by polycrystalline diamond tool with ultrasonic vibration. To know the characteristics of brittle materials cutting, ultrasonic vibration cutting tool and machining system are built for the experiment. Grooving on planar lightwave circuit and glass experiments are performed and their shape are measured by photograph with microscope. It reveals that better groove shape with low chipping of planar lightwave circuit and glass are obtained by micro grooving machining with ultrasonic vibration. These experiments are considered as a possibility to the micro grooving of optical communication components.
